Never bleached or dyed before, a few tips?
1 Attachment(s)
My hair is pretty short now, (I'll attach a pic) and I want to dye it. I don't care too much about damage because it'll be trimmed off soon anyway, although I'll be doing a lot of treatments to make it look healthier.

But what bleach should I get, do I need to bleach it multiple times? (I don't want the orangey color, because I'd prefer to have maybe a few blonde streaks as well as some colored ones). And how do I apply bleach and color all the way to the root without staining my scalp?
I won't go to a stylist to do it, so only at home DIY tips please :)

Revlon has a highlightling kit
called Frost and Glow and there's one for dark hair. It actually works pretty well. There's a cap that you pull strands through to highlight. That might be a good way to dip your feet in the world of bleaching.

Otherwise bleaching dark hair is very challenging and you can easily end up carrot orange (ask me how I know this :tongue10:)

How do you know this? ;D

violet toners help take away that "brassy, orange" color that occurs when you're going blonde from a darker color

Just looking at your pic, I am guessing you have the kind of hair that reacts quickly to bleach. It looks quite fine textured.

I bet you get great results so long as you don't leave it on too long and don't be afraid to let the toner do it's job. Follow the directions and you should be fine.

Don't be surprised if your curl pattern changes.. it does for many who lighten with bleach.

Use super moisturizing conditioners. The fact you have short hair is fantastic for using all kinds of great colours.

I could see you with a nice bold purple streak or two!

If you use bleach try getting the lowest developer and use it for the maximum time, purple shampoo helps with the brassy color
