"Your hair looks so nice now! It's a shame you've only just discovered how to look after it."

Yes, thank you for that backhanded compliment implying that my hair looked so sh*tty before LOL.

Growing my hair to WL when dry
Is it real?

I've always been natural, but I choose to get my hair straightened so apparently it looks like a weave to most.

I honestly do wonder how some people were raised. I am naturally blunt which can sometimes come over as inappropriate/ rude. Yet I've very very rarely made anything but the most basic and positive of comments about a woman's appearance (eg recent random 'you look fabulous' to a dolled up stranger living near my parents). The purpose of a compliment is not to download everything in your brain to your mouth, but simply to make someone feel good.

Some of the comments made about our hair are of the same standard as asking a woman who is not pregnant 'when is it due?'. Seriously how do you not know never to ask that unless you are SURE?

The most annoying comment I get (or question rather) is, "Do you curl each of your curls to make your hair like that?" I don't understand that question at all. Like, who's going to take the time to do that?! Hahahaha.
I loved it when ur hair was straight. Will u never straighten it again

"Umm...I think you need to wet down your hair again."

Really? What's wrong with volume??!!
My hair used to be pin straight, and I was happy with that. Suddenly, it turned wavy in the back, and I finally got a new cut. My hair's been curly since, and today my mom showed me a picture of my straight hair and said "See what it used to look like. What happened?" I feel like this unsmilie- but fortunately I don't do that or I would be doing to bossmom every day. And my sister's been a curly since birth- her hair always looks fine but mine doesn't!?!?!?! She also says other things that don't approve of curly hair, too. ( "It doesn't match your bangs." Hello? I have to straighten my bangs because I have to go to work!!! If I didn't straighten them, they WOULD match the rest of my hair... grr. ) My grandma has never said anything nice about my curly hair, either...

P.S. How do you start a new thread? I don't know how- only how to reply! Thank you!

I was one of the very few african american kids in my elementary school (and we all know kind grade school children are!!! Lol) but whenever I would where braids or twists I was told I looked like The Predator or Whoopi Goldberg!!!
On one of my best hair days ever a (straight haired!!) co-worker walked by and said "wow, it must be nice to just wake up and be good to go. I have to spend hours doing my hair in the morning. Lucky you, your hair always looks nice and you don't even have to put any effort into it." .... I'm not quite sure if this was meant as a compliment stating that my hair always looks nice, or if she just meant to say that it always looks unruly as if I got up from bed and left the house with "bed hair"..

Just being called nappy-headed gets my blood boiling whether it's about me or anybody else. I have twin cousins and the one that happens to be everyone's favorite except for mine always gets comments from my mother about how "pretty" her hair is. The other one--my favorite--was literally just told that she must be the child of a slave to have hair like that while my mom was parting her hair to braid it.

Just makes me sick, ya know?
"Did you even try to brush your hair this morning?"
"Do you like own a brush"
"You looked so much better as a beach blonde"
high school kids are ruthless and will tell you straight off the bat if something is a little off with your appearance. Sigh when will they ever learn that I don't give a flying flipper about what they think about my mop of hair on my head. It's finally getting healthy after all that bleaching and that's all I care about right now stay strong ladies!
