Here’s a method that works for me. After working conditioner through the hair while still in the shower, pile or push your hair upward to the top of your head. Then, using a wide tooth comb, begin combing a little bit of hair downward starting at the nape of the neck. The key is to only take a small amount of hair at a time and clear it out. As you move more and more hair down, you can begin combing all the untangled hair together. Keep doing this until all your hair is combed down and you can pull the comb through your entire head. Then, standing under the shower, begin rinsing the conditioner out while combing your hair at the same time as the water streams through your hair. I find that detangling is way easier while the water is running through your hair.

You can then reapply more conditioner as a leave-in. Your hair should be pretty tangle free at this point and easy to divide into sections.

The clearing your hair out while under the shower is pretty easy. My nieces who have 4a with some 3c can manage it pretty well.

    mothereartha,

Maybe your conditioner is the problem because your routine seems to be ok.

What type of conditioner do you use?

Thanks auntcurly, I’ll try that. Currently as a deep conditioner I use Dudley’s Protein Conditioner/Reconstructor and Suave Conditioner. Leave-in is one by Design, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Knot-Today-p-207.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-knot-today-leaveindetangler]Knot Today[/buylink], and/or Kids Organic Shea Butter. Should I buy that BBD stuff; I did once but I didn’t see a huge difference. Thanks for the advice.
