Has anyone tried any of the Ouidad products. I ordered the sample kit, and it worked ok, but she suggests using the Deep Condition treatment twice a month. I’m about to order the larger bottles of her products, and I was just wondering from someone that has had a little longevity with these products how good they really are?

i have used ouidad and it did not work for my hair. i even went to the salon last year and got the cut. personally i think they could of taken a lot more bulk out of my hair as i just heard about 5 snips. the shampoo for me on my hair leaves it really knottie. the deep treatment conditioner is good but my hair needs a lot of it and i didnt do it religiously. the climate control leaves it crunchy and i dont like it and you need to really divide the sections of your hair and work it religiously. the hair spray or botanical mist is ok for me. her conditioner is great but i need one that leaves my hair with more moisture.

i do have to get a normal routine going since my hair needs moisture. currently though im looking at the frizzoff site and may make a trip to canada to get a haircut and get some tunnels in my hair.

Some of Ouidad’s products are excellent. I personally recommend the deep tx (with heat), climate control gel, tress f/x gel and curl quencher conditioner.

Climate control does not leave my hair crunchy if I dilute it with water before applying to damp hair (I do this with most gels).

I hate botanical boost and the shine serum product never did anything for me.

KrlyQ- When are you going to post pictures? We would love to see your hair 🙂

I tried the trial pack too and was so disappointed. The deep conditioner left my hair an uncontrollable ball of fluff and I didn’t notice anything particularly good with the other products. Quite a few people here seem to like the climate control gel but it did nothing for me – it was just like putting water in my hair – absolutely no effect at all. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell when you just get trial sizes but I just didn’t think it was worth persevering.

When I had the sample pack, the climate control worked pretty well for me while I was here in Texas. But when I took it with me when I went back home to Rhode Island last summer, it didn’t work as well. I think it’s because it is so much more humid in RI than in TX.

I had to ask what everyone thought of the products because if I do order the shampoo and conditioner along with all of the other recommended products it will come to $115.00. That’s alot of money to spend on something you’re unsure about. 😯

    Hey KrlyQ,

I tried Ouidad a few years ago, did the trial thing and it seemed to work ok, so I bought everything, or almost everything in their 32 oz. size as it was more cost effective. I can tell you that in my case, the only thing that worked was the deep treatment. After using her products for a couple of months my hair became very dry and unmanageable.

The shampoo, despite it’s low sudsing factor made my hair feel stiff, like straw. The conditioner was ok, but didn’t make the hair feel silky soft after using the shampoo. The routine after, with sectioning the hair and using gobs of tress f/x or climate control (depending on the humidity) mixed with her shine serum, worked for a couple of weeks, though it gave me a kind of flat, wet, sticky look and feel that I didn’t particularly like. After a few weeks, it just looked dried out and cruncy. I hate crunchy! I like soft to the touch, shiny curls. The botanical boost further dried out my hair. Needless to say, it was quite an investment to have all of the product sit in my cabinet under the sink. Recently, another board member mentioned she uses and gets great results from the Ouidad products. I packed all of it up and sent it to her as my gift! Might as well let someone enjoy the products that work for them, right? At least this way, my money wasn’t wasted! 😀

Thanks alim1216. My real concern right now is finding a good deep treatment for my hair. I’m embarassed to say that I don’t do it enough; close to not at all. That is something I know I need to incorporate into my hair care routine.

I’m glad that you were able to find someone who could put those products to good use. You’ve helped me too. Your info has saved me about $70.00. Now I know how I’m going to approach this particular situation. I think I’m going to just order the Deep Treatment for now, then order 1 product at a time as necessary.

I really dislike Ouidad herself and I think her products are too expensive. The deep treatment is rich and worked for a while for me, but I found that once I did the cg routine and stayed away from shampoom, I didn’t need to dt. I just use deva products whichare cheaper and my hair is great, soft and curly. I would rather recommend trying deva stuff.

Different things work for different people.

I tried the trial pack also and I like all the products. The CC gel is the only gel my hair likes. I tried the Water Works poo and liked that, too.

To tell you the truth at the time I was concerned with the price and did not order more. But I tried Devacurl and it did not work well for me. And I put out more money to try it.

I have been using Paul Mitchell products with great success. But this weekend I ordered Quidad’s DT and her book. When my current stash is low I will be ordering more Quidad products.

I’v been using Ouidad for a few years now and have basically been very happy. I really like Ouidad’s gel, use both Tress F/X and Climate Control. I don’t think their conditioners or deep trearment condish is all that though. I really like the Botanical Boost spray and really couldn’t live without that. As far as Ouidad haircuts, it made a major change in my hair the first time I had one. Finally embraced my curls with this cut. Unfortunately, the Ouidad hairdresser I was going to in Boston left, and the other Ouidad trained person I went to wasn’t as good. So, now I’m letting it grow and deciding what to do. We have no Devachan cutters in the Boston area – I would love to try that cut.

Ouidad is expensive and I am slowly trying other gels so I don’t have to rely on ordering from the internet; but I keep going back to Ouidad and mix it with other gels. I do like Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee, but need to mix it with climate control or Aura gel (from Sally’s).

I want to get the cut because i had my hair layered since i BC in 04 and have the dreaded pyramid look “i think” 🙄 but i’m afraid to go to Signatures and get it there because i read all of the posts for the salon they were good but…. it seems like the owner just wants to cut your hair anyway he wants too and all into what the look is for the season, i’m not having that. I need my length. Length is very important to me so in order for me not to be devastated i think i would have to wait for my ouidad haircut….but i really can’t…does this makes since? 😯

Totally get it Mamacita! You want your hair cut the way YOU want to wear it, not the way the stylist wants you to wear it! What would be the point in going to get a cut only to feel you just paid big bucks to have your hair sabotaged?? I for one think I found someone that applies a little of the CG routine to her cutting, but I will know more once I get a consult and trim with her. I AM NOT letting her shape my hair till I’m sure she and I are on the same page! If she doesn’t ‘get it’, I will save money like a packrat and either go to NYC to Devachan, or back to Oregon to get another light shaping with the girl I saw in Portland, Aimee. She was excellent!

BTW WECOME BACK MORNING STAR!!!! Missed you! 😀

So im wondering what should i do for know? I really dont think i can trim my hair myself and in order for my hair to continue growing, in about 3-4 months i know i will need a trim. I usually go to Hair Cuttery and only let two people there touch my hair. I like on Ouidad’s website all her commericals show PROOF of her tecnique but it’s usually somebody hair that is long…the only person that had short hair was a guy 😯 ….my hair is way longer then that but not as long as the other girls 😥 Oooo i feel like im stuck in a rut 😳

    Mamacita,

Personally, I would not even presume to give you advice on how, when or where to cut your hair, because we all know, hair is a very personal thing and very subjective. Like hair care products, what will work for one may not work for another! However, I will tell you what I do/have done with my mop!

What I did initially, when I decided to let my hair grow, was to wear it up, in a bun, a ponytail, pineappled, whatever, just so I wouldn’t have to look at the mess I had going on on my head when I put my hair down! 😆 😳 At that time, it seemed like every 8 weeks or so I needed a trim badly on the ends as my hair seemed to be drying out excessively. I had not discovered this website yet! This little sight became my “Mr. Miyagi” for haircare very quickly. There is a tremendous amount of information on this site, but it will take up a lot of your time!

It was on one of the threads on this site that I learned about Lorraine’s book, and different methods of taking care of my curls. First lesson, I was washing it way too much and not conditioning it near enough. With all the money I had spent on hair cutting, you would think ONE of the stylists would’ve told me I could spare myself some cutting just by making my hair healthier thru deep conditioning, etc.! 👿

On this site, I also learned about “dusting” where you take your hair and go thru it and trim back any split ends you see, which have been significantly less since I started a modified CG routine. When the ends really start to look ratty, I just go to a reliable salon and tell them I want a micro-trim, no more than 1/4 to 1/2″ off the bottom, depending on how ratty it is, NO layering. Basically, I tell them not to mess with it other than the trim on the bottom. I’m noticing that as I am gaining length, I am losing some volume (the pyramid effect), probably because of the weight of the hair. However, as I said before, what works for some doesn’t necessarily work for all, so this may not be the case for you.

As mentioned on this thread before, you may want to look at other reviews of salons in and around your area on this website. Sometimes it’s worth a long drive! 😆 and when you call them, either ask a lot of questions while on the phone to see if they are getting what you are talking about, or ask if they do consults and take that opportunity to ask a million questions. Just a thought: You might even ask if any of their stylists has taken seminars/classes with Lorraine Massey or Ouidad, or if they’ve heard of “Curly Girl.” If they don’t know what you’re talking about, you may want to consider trying someone else.

That’s what I did when I went on my trip to Oregon and made the appt. with Aimee at Dirty Little Secrets salon in Portland. I was more than prepared to pay her her cutting fees just for a consult. I was taking up time she could have used on another client, and her time is valuable as is mine. She completely got what I was talking about, she’d heard of “Curly Girl” and she knew about Lorraine’s cutting techniques, so I risked a “mini cut” and was extremely happy with the results. Aimee also knew about NC.com!

Now that I’m back in Florida, I will be doing basically the same thing with a haircutter I found in the salon reviews on this site. She is a four hour drive away from me, but it will be worth my time and money if it turns out she’s what I’m looking for. If not, I see it as a daytrip to a lovely area of Florida and as I said, I will squirrel away money for a trip to NYC or Oregon when I actually need my hair “re-shaped.”

Don’t be blue Mamacita, I am confident it will all be ok in the end! 😆
