how should i get my hair cut?
this an entirely egotistical and selfish thread, so i apologise for it in advance! but a comment from medusa has got me thinking - how do i want to get my hair cut?

i love long hair, and this time last year had hair past my brastrap when curly. it then got chopped off last january so it didn't touch my shoulders. when it was short i got MEGA big ringlets, all over my hair. but i love the look of it long.

so i'm getting my hair cut in a week's time. i usually always get a trim with my hair cut all at the same length, with a little shaping at the front.

i was thinking of getting long layers this time, as i feel that the top layer of my hair is getting weighed down by the length and the curls are being pulled out, so if it was a little shorter it would spring up and look nicer. also it would give my hair a more 3-d appearance.

however medusa said that when she got short layers she doesnt get many ringelts. i'm not worried that if i got even long layers my hair just wouldnt curl right and would still all clump together with stringy bits at the bottom.

so now i need advice! how should i get it cut?

I think long layers would look great in your hair! Go for it! :D

When your hair was shorter was it all one length?

Can I vote for any of them but short layers? :D

Long layers will probably be lovely, just be sure to post pics because we'll be dying to see!

that's it when it was just cut. it actually looks longer than it was cos my head is bent down but it really didnt touch my shoulders. and you can see the big fat ringlets i got. and yes, it was all at one length. this has left me with a bit of a problem as the bottom layer is now a lot shorter than the top layer as when they were cut at the same length all the way round the bottom hair went very short - i'm hoping its long enough to get layers!

here's a pic of when it was pretty much at its longest, give or take a month or two:

it's an awful photo but you get the idea!

Ahh gotcha, well my layers are way way way shorter than that there so I bet layers that long and longer will be fine.
Plus your hair is way curlier.
I like the big ole curls you get short but I do so love your length. With long layers at least you get both eh? Length with some layers to make more of those fat curls.

Thanks for directing me to the photos :D

Hi Jen,
I voted for long layers, I figured if you've not had them before it would be worth a try & most curlies seem to like them.
Personally a few long layers really pep up my curls, although I know your hair is quite a bit curlier than mine.

Good luck whatever you decide, I know your hair will always look gorgeous!

It doesn't matter how you get your hair cut, it will always be pretty. :D
I think you could try some longer layers. A long time ago I tried layers but my hair seemed way too thin because of them. You could always ask the opinion of your stylist, they're usually honest.

Thanks Alexa and Zoe :) I do hope they pep up my curls, but like Zoe said I'm also worried it might make my hair look a bit too thin. It has thinned out a bit in the last year and the hair strands themselves are fine. But hopefully my stylist will be able to help.

I'm also getting my roots coloured and new glasses for christmas so i'll come back to NC with a whole new look  well maybe...

I remember looking at your pictures a while back and it looked like your hair likes to be one length. Didn't you cut layers and the curls kinda didn't wanna curl as much? Or got weird or something?

If I remember this correctly I think you should go for one length and maybe get some shorter layers around the face if you feel like it.

I like your hair the best in the pictures with one length.

Kinda guano-ing, but what exactly are short and long layers? Are short layers when the actual LAYER of hair is short, making the space between the layers longer, or the other way around?
