How do you do your DT's?
I'm hoping that some of you could post your steps that you do for DTs. I think that I need some clarification on how this is supposed to go. For instance, do you shampoo/co wash/acv rinse beforehand then apply to wet hair? or do you apply DT to dry unwashed hair? or apply to wet hair? then how long do you leave it in? then do you just rinse out with water? or co wash? or leave in over night then rinse? do you condition afterwards? Oh, and do you get in the shower for pre and post DTs? I don't want to use up so much water if I don't have to. Sorry for asking so many questions that might even be obvious. Thanks in advance :D

Good question. I don't know how everyone else does it. But I like to apply the DT to washed damp hair, but there are times I apply it to dry hair. I feel though when it's wet/damp, the DT sinks in better. I leave it overnight usually once a week. I co wash and then apply the DT and leave it in overnight. In the morning I just rinse it out and then do honey rinse and that's it. I feel if I condition again I may overcondition so I don't do that.

I CW my hair with either No Poo or Suave Coconut conditioner. I rake my DT (generous amount) to towel dried hair. I use an electrical conditoning cap for 20-30 minutes, let it cool for another 15-20 minutes. Rinse, apply my conditioner then my styling aid. Oh, usually the night before a DT, I message some oil to my scalp and leave overnight. HTH :)

I use ORS Replenishing Pak which I use as a deep conditioning treatment in my hair on a weeky basis, now that the weather is colder outside. I leave it on my head for an hour when I don't feel like using heat with it. But if I do use heat with it, I keep it in my hair for at least 20 minutes.

I always wear a plastic cap over my head when deep conditioning my hair. And I only deep condition my hair after I have cleansed my hair first. I apply it to my hair while it is wet, and then I apply it to my hair in sections, making sure to smooth it through thoroughly. After I rinse it out, I then apply my regular styling aid as usual.

When the weather starts getting warmer though, then I plan to go back to using ORS in my hair 1-2 times a month at the most.

I do one about every 2 weeks or so (well that's what i aim for - doesn't always happen). I shampoo my hair before, but I shampoo regularly anyway, I just do this with my head under the shower head. Put the dt into wet hair, wrap it in cling film, then a towel and leave it for about 1/2 an hour or so. Then I get into the shower, rinse it off and put in styling products, I don't condition again.

I try to do one once every 2 weeks. So far, I like a homemade pre-poo treatment (coconut milk, conditiner, honey, coconut oil, castor oil -- in order of amount from lge to small); Anita Grant's Rhassoul conditioner mixed with coconut milk as an after-poo treatment (very nice). And I would like to try the Ojon Tawira treatment -- saw it on QVC last night.

DT's seem to keep my hair moisturized from the inside out so I don't have to use as much product.

I had the same question.

After low-pooing with SM Moisture Retention Shampoo, I did an overnight DT with SM DT Masque+Avocado, and Olive Oil and AVJ. This morning I rinsed it out and applied my products as usual.

My hair has been smoother lately, but today it wasn't. I noticed a lot of frizz around my roots and it looked downright crispy :/

I didn't think it was necessary to condition after doing a DT, but I could be wrong... Am I wrong???? :)

i usually apply to wet hair but i think i'll apply it to more damp hair going forward. i let it sit for a long time then rinse and style. i rarely use heat.

I will co-wash and apply to damp hair. The steps that follow depends on what kind of DT I using. I like to make homemade DT's alot. For purchased DT's I usually leave it on half hour to an hour than rinse out, style as usual. For more moisture intense DT's I will make up a homemade DT, my favorite being coconut milk, honey, coconut oil, and maybe a little EVOO. I will kind of soak my hair in a bowl filled with the mix, wrap in an old towel until it isn't dripping anymore. Then cover with a shower cap. If my hair particularly dry I will wrap with a heating pad for a bit to help it penetrate. Leave on all night. I find with oil based DT's I usually do have to co wash in the morning.
