dryness and deva products??
This is driving me crazy! Because I don't what is doing it but does anyone get dry feeling hair (real noticeable when wetting down) with any of the deva products?
I thought it was the arc angell. After three days of use my hair was like straw! So I stopped using it and went back to using my salon care and no more straw hair. I added a bit of SIF and no dryness.
Then I went to using angell and a bit of SIF and it seems like it's getting dry again. What the heck is going on??
I don't see any ingredient in it that would be drying.

That IS strange. I've used Deva for several yrs & never noticed dryness from any of the line. Even the B'Leave In that so many haven't cared for b'coz of the dryness factor -- no dryness for me. And I have very long, very dry hair.

I have had dryness with bleave in and I thought maybe it is the weather. It seems to work better for me in hot weather as myhair was frizzy i n the cold with it. ALso, I think angel is better than arcangel in terms of dryness. These are the only products I would say cause dryness fo r me. Sometimes the one c feels producty too but overall, I like these products and just use them and some phyto 9 for softness.

Yes! Even Devacare OneC dried me out! As did regular OneC, No-poo, angell, and bleave-in. I gave them all several tries but just nasty, matted dryness and itchy scalp. SIF didn't dry me out, and actually made my hair look and feel great, but did break out my skin (and itch) where my hair touched my neck. :( I had to give up on Deva.

I just started using Deva products (low-poo, one c, angell...and tried sif today). I think my hair feels much drier (and tangles more) than it did on my old silicone hair is more wavy than curly so maybe thats why

mailgirl 12-31-2006 08:08 PM

yes! ArcAngell is the culprit, I believe!

Deva doesn't dry me out, but it does make it alot bigger. One C conditions well, but also swells the strands--creating poof.

I have tried 3 DevaCurls products(No-Poo, One-C, &AnGell) and one of the biggest culprits that stopped me from using the line was increased dryness. DevaCurl's AnGell, which is supposed to be moisturizing to the hair, started sucking more and more moisture out of my hair the more I would use it. The only DevaCurl, product that I have tried that didn't suck moisture out of hair, was DevaCurl's One-C, of course.

Darby 12-31-2006 09:25 PM

wow, this doesn't sound too good with all the dryness issues. I'm going to give angell one last try this week and if I see my hair getting dryer, then I'll quit and give up.
I really hate to but... I can't have the moisture sucked out of my hair.
What about mr. right? Anyone have any dryness with it?

what are you using on your hair now since deva didn't work out?
Ok... I just went into the bathroom and looked at my hair --- UGH!!! The curl is going, just about gone and it looks dry and kind of frizzy - weird.
I washed it out and just put a bit of SIF and I'm just letting it air dry.

I'm sorry the products aren't working for you. You know they didn't work for me either, since I traded you mine...

I don't understand what could be causing the dryness either. All I can tell is that my hair looked worse using any Deva products.

Take care,

Darby 01-01-2007 09:24 AM

LOL--- yeah, they don't seem to be working for me. Oh well. That's ok, you never know til you try right?
I'm still holding onto the two gels and I will try again in the summer. It might be just too dry right now. If they don't work in the summer, then I'll give up totally.
Last night I washed and put in some Tizz no frizz and let it air dry til almost dry and then diffused and got great hair.
My hair changes its needs with the different seasons. Tizz no frizz doesn't work for me in the summer.

Tizz No Frizz stopped working for me when the weather got colder, but works great for me in the summer-we have opposite hair :D

Do you have a Rite Aid near you? I'm having good luck with Umberto Gianni Curl and Twist gel. That's the only store where I could find it. There's a thread about it in the product review section.

Doesn't the Umberto Gianni have a drying alcohol in it?

Darby 01-01-2007 02:37 PM

Yes, I do have a rite aid. I'll check it out.

sherry7899 01-01-2007 03:20 PM

Yes the Umberto Gianni does have denatured alcohol. Is that the drying one? I'm new to this...I'm not using it every day. I'm going to alternate with Jessicurl products, so hopefully my hair won't dry out.

Take care,

Darby 01-01-2007 04:51 PM

Yes, that is the drying one. You'll probably be ok. I use a product that has the drying alcohol as the first ingredient and I don't get dried out hair. I don't use it everyday either and I don't use much. It's a scrunch spray.

Hi, I'm a past user (forgot my username) and long time lurker. I too bought a slew of Devacurl products very excited to finally find them. The conditioner made my hair too soft and the gel didnt' have enough hold. I ended up looking like Rosanne Rosanna Danna. I probably didn't use them long enough to make my hair dry.

1curlydoc 01-01-2007 08:47 PM

I've been trying Deva products for the last couple of weeks, but I think I've given up on them. I tried both the gels and didn't like either of them. Sometimes my hair would be okay, but more often it turned out kind of dull and matted looking and felt producty, almost sticky. Tonight I actually rinsed my hair just to get rid of the icky feeling. And I could never get second day hair. With Jessicurl and Ouidad I can consistently get 2nd and sometimes 3rd day hair. I don't know why I keep looking for new products when I already have some I like. Anyway, no more Deva gels for me!
