What is this milkshake everyone speaks of? And can it be found in a store/chain salon? I'm all for instant gratification.

Texas Mama 01-10-2007 09:31 PM

The first website is the actual CURLS website, the folks who produce this milkshake you've been hearing of. Before you buy, try a sample from sistasplace. They ship quickly, and you can sample a few different curls products for not much money. And if you hate the sample, you can swap it for something else on the swap board. Curlicious also carries this line - I only found out about all these sites when I first discovered curls. sometimes doesn't have what you're looking for, hence trying the other sites......

Good luck, and please, for the love of god, DON'T put a straw in the milkshake and go to town. IT"S FOR YOUR HAIR! Same goes for the whipped cream. Consider yourself warned....

KristaRose 01-10-2007 09:38 PM

LOL and thanks for the advice about the straw, Texas Mama. Just reading about this product does make me want to drink it. Whoever came up with the name did an awesome job.

I'd like to know if anyone is using Milkshake as their leave-in. I am having AWESOME hair with it today, under the usual re:coil and 3 in 1 mousse. I think the mousse doesnt' smell so good, so I will likely purchase JoiWhip next time I get the opportunity.

I had been using fast food under recoil and the mousse, but I tried the milkshake, thinking it would be a little more moisuturizing - WOW what a difference. I love this stuff and will likely place a full sized order for it once I run out. I never used as much as I used today, thinking it would be TOO moisturizing for this white chick's thin hair. Man, I was so wrong. My hair looks really good, and this is AFTER I took a nap on still damp hair (dang headache).

Anyhow, just wondering how many of you are using milkshake as your leave in and how you're liking it....

cgsamco 01-13-2007 04:54 PM

Hi there:) I'm using it as my leave in and loving it! I'm topping it with souffle(the smell of this is awesome!) or Boots.

Beware before you buy a full size though. They've recently changed the formula for this and spiral curls cream. Not sure which one you have but they added some stuff. There is a thread about it on the boards.

Texas Mama 01-13-2007 05:05 PM

Hi CGSAMCO - here's mah pickle....the only supply of Milkshake I have is the samples..... :x

I'm wondering if the Milkshake has changed ingredients as well. I forgot to say earlier that I added a little bit of whipped cream to the mix because I wanted the curls to lay down a bit. Has whipped cream and souffle changed recently? I wouldn't know the ingredients of the samples because they're only labeled with the names.

I thought most of that thread was everyone gritchin' about the Spiral curls Cream and something else changing formulas...

cgsamco 01-13-2007 05:11 PM

Hi Texas Mama! The thread was about Sprial curls cream and milkshake! which were my two favorites:( I ordered them in December and got the New Milkshake and the old spiral curls cream. I will be repurchasing milkshake because my hair seems to like this formula. I won't be repurchasing spiral curls cream because they added cones. When did you get your samples and where from? If you read thru the thread I listed the old ingred. for spiral curls cream and the new ingred. for milkshake. I believe someone else posted the new spiral ingred.

As far as I know whipped cream and souffle has not changed! Crossing my fingers in doesn't!!

I would call and ask them because you need to know that information in order to decide if you want to repurchase!

Well, I currently do use Curls Milkshake, and it is a great product! I have been a fan of this stuff ever since it came out, and I do use its current formulation which works absolutely fabulous for my hair! I use it as both a leave-in moisturizer and stylid aid depending on my hair's needs for the day.

A good product that can be paired with Curls Milkshake to give your curls more hold if need be is Curls Spiral Curl Cream. The new version of Curls Spiral Cream has medium-to-hard hold to it, it is more hydrating than its original, and makes my curls appear even more smoother, but still defined. It does have cones in it, but they have not cause any adverse problems to my hair and normally can't use most products that have cones in them.

And regarding the Curls Whipped Cream and Curls Souffle their "newer" formulations came out in November. All of the product versions and on the Curls website are current and have been since the end of last year, I did find out. I have had a chance to try out all of the Curls products that are presently apart of this line(including old and new formulations of such products). So if at any time you have any further Curls questions you can always PM me anytime and I will do my best to answer your questions.

Milkshake is a fabulous product, as a leave-in, a light styler, or a day 2 refresher. I love it and use the CurlyQ version almost every day. You will have to pry it out of my cold, dead hand. :D

I like Curls Spiral Curl Cream but am sort of leery of using too much of it with the 'cones in it.

Souffle never worked for me, don't know why. Whipped Cream smells fabulous but a little too heavy on my hair. But I'm a 4a that likes like products because I think the lightness of my hair is part of its appeal. I try to get curl definition with lighter products and have been successful.

I get my Whipped Cream smell fix from Body by Curls Vanilla and Brown Sugar body cream - on my body, not hair!

Thanks SYB and Suburbanbushbabe....I was really worried about the current formulations. The samples I have don't say what formulation they are, which is annoying.

I'd like to hear about the difference in Curly Q and just regular Milkshake. There are a few people using the Curly Q version, and say that the formulation is the same as the old version of the grown up kind. How does it work for you, and how is the smell? I would like to continue using this, but looking at the ingredients, it looks like a whole 'nother product.....crazy.

Let me know-either respond here or PM me. I'm always checkin'!!

Texas Mama 01-15-2007 12:06 PM

bumping for response

SYB 01-15-2007 12:10 PM

The Curly Q products are made for children so they are therefore formulated for sensitive scalps. But they work exactly the same as their Curls counterparts. So if yoy would like to use the Curls products because they are slighty cheaper then by all means that is not a bad thing to do.

I use the current Curls Milkshake formula that is out now with no problems at all by itself or even combined with another Curls product. But please be aware that Curls Milkshake wasn't really formulated to be combined with such Curls stylers as the Whipped Cream or Curls Souffle, because they are very moisturizing already by themselves and they work best combined with Curls Quenched anyway. I have two ways that I have used Curls Milkshake as of late: paired with Curls Spiral or all alone. But the way that I use it mainly goes according to what my hair's needs are at that time. Oh and Curls Milkshake smells like vanilla of course.

And on the Curls website it currently shows that Curls Milkshake is out of stock and won't be back in stock until 1/18.

Hope this helps you out Texas Mama. :)

SYB 01-15-2007 10:10 PM

Mahisha was able to get more stock back in tonight, so for anyone that wants to buy the current version of Curls Milkshake it is BACK IN STOCK! It seems like Curls Milkshake is becoming a holy grail for curlies of all hairtypes.

I'm assuming you got the samples from Sistasplace? If so, they still have the old formulations, so that's what you should have.

Well, here's the deal - one of the samples I got is actally from CURLS, which came with full size products I ordered right before Christmas. I'm wondering if they are they same. I think they are, tho. I compared the two and scent, texture/consistency - all the same. I'm swapping with PixieCurl and she's sending me some milkshake of hers. We'll see if it's cool. If so, I may have to get some more.

Are they still planning on adding a Chocolate and Strawberry variety?
