Apply product with scrunching?
How do you evenly apply products trough scrunching? I have the feeling that if i scrunch the product doesn't get to my roots, but if i rake i break up the curls..
So, what is the best way? My hair is about shoulderlength.

I'm not sure. You could try raking to distribute product then scrunching to bring back the curl maybe? Hmm. :o

Rake and scrunch works for me! If the curls break up I use the Ice Queen method to bring them back. But I try to avoid putting product in my roots because otherwise I get greasy roots and I find I don't need product there to get a nice style.

I use Ice Queen method in the shower, then rake LI and gel through, and scrunch 'n pump to bring back the clumps /curl, then plop. After scrunching product in from the ends of your hair, you might try going in from underneath your hair, or the side (toward the root), and scrunch gently to get product applied (if that makes sense). Also, you could try smoothing gel over the surface of your hair, or even carefully section, and smooth gel over the surface in each.

I have the same problem! I feel that my curls look best if I scrunch in product, but the product doesn't get to my roots/all over my hair if I scrunch it in, so EVERY TIME my hair is dry 50% of it doesn't have product in pretty much, partly because it's so hard to get product all over my hair since it's thick as well. :cwm10:

I will try some of those methods!
I just need some product on top of my head in the middle, otherwhise it gets poofy and messy..

I'm not sure how you are doing it, but I always coat my hands with the product, front and back, between the fingers, too, lean over, then slide my fingers in near the roots, scrunch in there, rake through, then scrunch the outer layers of my hair. I have my hair very wet as I do this.
I layer a couple teaspoons of Shea moisture smoothie then a couple tablespoons of Ecostyler w/Argan oil, my hair is shoulder length.

I do it similar to crwritt. Get a little product on my hands (emulsify, whatever) but not as much as go on my length. Then flipped upside down I slide my hands in close to the root and sort of gently shake the hands a little, kind of like gently ruffling it I guess. And do it in a few different spots. I can't seem to scrunch that close to the scalp. Then I'll scrunch & pump all the hair again.

For the Ice Queen method you rake your rinse out condish through your hair, then scrunch while upside down. Let it sit on your hair while you do the rest of your shower stuff, then rinse upside down in cool water (or cold if you can stand it). The cool water rinse closes the cuticle, which helps decrease post shower frizz.

There's a thread about it here.

I squish excess water out of my hair with my fists first. Then I cocktail my styling products, and squish them in with my hair hanging upside down. You should have enough styling product that it sounds like you're walking through mud; and I do it for about as long as it would take me to walk and uncrowded city block. This distributes the products evenly.

I'm not sure if this idea will help anyone else but I have also been having trouble not getting product to my roots, so I will be trying tomorrow dividing my hair Ito smaller sections and scrunching each section a few times, so hopefully it'll be easier for the product to get to my root; my other idea if that doesn't work is to still section the hair but maybe try scrunching from about halfway down the shaft to the roots and then scrunching the bottom. I'm not sure if anyone else suggested these ideas since my iPod touch has been acting up, but I hopefully will be trying this out tomorrow and updating my post to give results.
