The two most helpful things...

Like Tree10Likes've learned from

I was just thinking about all of the helpful information that I've learned here at Obviously, there are more that two things, but I thought it might be fun to limit it to two. Mine are...

1. I can leave-in regular conditioner (for me it's GVP conditioning balm)
2. How to scrunch out the crunch. I always used gel, but my hair was always wet looking and hard.

What are yours?

CG since 9/2011 - 3b/Coarse/Medium thickness

Low Poo: Shea Moisture Retention, Loreal Everpure Sulfate-Free (ocassionally)
Co-wash: Suave Naturals Coconut Conditioner
RO: GVP Conditioning Balm, AOHR
LI: GVP Conditioning Balm
DT: Shea Moisture DT Hair Masque, AOHR
Gel: Dep Endurance Styling Gel, HE Set Me Up Spray Gel
Password: embracecurls

For me it is...
1. Plopping (the one thing that has done more to enhance my curls than any other)
2. Technique-it is as important as product
Hair: 2a or 3a (not sure), very porous and fine as frog hair
Day 1: Cowash and condition with AO GPB, ACV Rinse,
Co-Kra gel (this stuff is fantastic)

Day 2: KCKT, KCCC, plop, KCCC, plop again, air dry
Day 3: Curly Kinks Satin Roots, Coil Jam
Day 4: IAGirl's PT, KBB DT, FSG

Co-Kra gel is my own concoction of okra boiled in coconut milk. It is a cross between FSG and KCCC and leaves my hair very soft and shiny
1- the ingredients on a label go from the most to least. These helped me ween out products that may be "enriched with 100%" of something, and it be the last thing on the ingredients list.

2- hair properties, particularly low porosity hair care methods.
1. Technique- used Deva Curl products exclusively for two years before I ever heard of CG or Was still towel drying my hair and adding a non DC silicone-filled hair serum. My hair looked so bad I wore it pulled back for about 6 months straight.
2. How to read ingredients and be aware of what I'm putting in my hair.

hard to put it down to just two things, but i guess one would have to be:
1) moisture moisture n more moisture!!
2) learning to read the ingredients list.

my hair: 3b, high porosity, high density and coarse hair (i think i finally figured that all out)
my hair loves conditioner only styling!
Oils and my own procuts are my hairs best friend
my hair goal length is bra strap length when curly.
1. How important of a role your hair properties make in deciding which products will work for you
2. Learning about dew points and which ingredients to avoid during certain ones

CurlyFireHorse, I definitely agree with what you said about technique!
Definitely scrunch out the crunch and the scrunch-n-pump method.
Using conditioner to wash instead of shampoo and the oil cleanse method (from the make-up and skincare section on here).

Oh gosh, only two things...I guess I would have to say:
1. Scrunch out the crunch
2. Learning your hair properties can make a world of difference

But there's so many other things...this website has been so incredibly helpful.

1. The Before and After Thread. I used to think I just had ugly hair and all I could do was try to hide it. Seeing other people with hair just like mine transformed into beautiful curls blew me away.
2. Recognizing that most of the products that claim to be good for curly hair really aren't. Understanding ingredients and being able to figure out what works for my hair.
