What is a diffuser for?
I was watching this tv show and a hairdresser was working on a girl with curly hair. The hairdresser said that a diffusers purpose is to create volume, and the girl shouldn't use one because she has enough volume.

Is this right? I always thought that curly people were supposed to use a diffuser...or are there different kinds?

A diffuser is usually the best way for a curly to dry hair without creating frizz. The most common way to use it would be to aim it upward and use the prongs to scrunch the hair -- this would increase curl and volume. It can also be aimed downward, or upward without scrunching, either of which can dry hair without the volumizing effect.

Interesting. How did he dry her hair? I'd have far more volume, and a lot less curl, without a diffuser. My hair dryer would be pretty useless to me without the diffuser.

I don't really remember how her hair was dried. It was that show 10 years younger. The stylist was the girl with pink hair from Blow Out. Although Jonathan doesn't seem to be very curl friendly so if she learned from him she probably has no clue what she is talking about.
