Hello, fellow curlies!

I'm a total newbie with a couple of ??

I'm a 2B-2C, med porosity and density with coarse hair. It's not colored. I did a Brazilian blowout a year ago, but other than that have been a wash-blow-go girl. I'm debating "embracing the curl". I've been sulfate free (with rare exception) for a year.

If I'm going to embrace the curl, I need product. I don't like the crunch and still remember years ago the mousse crunchiness.

Last weekend, I went to ulta and on their recommendation bought the sample pack of devacurl products.

Used the no poo and conditioner Monday mornining, along with their Light defining gel. pineappled Monday night and went Tuesday. This morning washed with renpure organic and devacurl conditioner. Used the light defining gel again.

Ugh! My hair feels greasy! Stringy! There is no shine. Am i using too much product? Not enough? I rinsed all conditioner off. I used two nickel sized portions of gel.

I read some that there is an adjustment time sometimes. If this true., is this what I'm experiencing? It is the pits!!!
well hello there. I'm sorry you're currently frustrated.

You should make sure you have no cones in any of your products if you're not going to be using sulfate. They end in -cone, conol, & xane.

If you've been using these, you'll need to use a sulfate shampoo to get them out of your hair before starting on a CG regiment.

Yes, there is definitely a transitioning period. Your hair is used to you stripping it of its oils and will produce accordingly until it realizes you're not trying to kill it anymore. Mine was weeks 2 & 3 of going CG, but it can vary.

As far as products are concerned. Gel products are really popular with wavies. Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee BRHG is very popular. So is Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Gel HETT & Ausie Instant Freeze AIF. Your hair will dry with some stiffness, but you should be able to scrunch it out one your hair is completely dry.

Try poking around in the 2 section on this forum. Its full of fantastic information.

started CG on 6/25/12.
  • 2c with a strait underneath
  • normal elasticity on top, none on the underneath
  • Fine side of Normal
  • Thick hair
  • Poriosity is a mystery. I think its all over the place.

as far as product recs go, I have a new product love-- I've been using ouidad climate control gel, conditioner, and sulfate free shampoo and I LOVE it. With this there is no crunch, ever, and it has worked great for my frizzy hair! I would say it has a light-medium hold, its not exactly curl definition, but definitely curl control. when I used mousse, my hair would be glued together in stringy "curls". With this I get great volume, which I love because I like big hair. did I mention second, even third day hair?? It's a miracle worker! It's a bit pricey, but it's lasts a while and I couldn't find anything that worked near as well (for my hair) in the drugstore. The HETT left my hair feeling really gross, like I needed a sulfate cleanser and deep conditioner after. I know lots of people love drug store products though! A lot of it is about experimenting and seeing what works for you. Good luck!

Oh and for transitioning... It wont last forever and you'll be glad you did it! But if you haven't been using sulfates I don't know why youd even have transition, as long as you watch for cones like Kstan said. A lot of people using the CG method use a sulfate free cleanser, though. Hope this helped you some

Around here, Deva is a love/hate line. Many of us started out with it, thought we liked it and then moved on to other lines.

Since you know your hair properties, the best thing you can do is look at people's signatures--find folks with hair like yours and see what they use. It's the best place to start with ingredients/products. Unfortunately, it's a lot of trial and error to get it right.

Hi! I also have 2B/2C hair and I've had success with using the following:

Co-wash with Tresemme Naturals Conditioner
Follow with L'Oreal EverCreme Condition, that I leave in my hair while I shower, then rinse at the end with cool water.
When I get out of the shower I squeeze out as much water as I can from my head upside down. Then I mix a generous amount of Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Smoothing Cream with HETT and scrunch it into my hair. Then I plop for 20 minutes and let my hair air dry after that.

If my hair is feeling a bit dry after showering I will also put L'Oreal EverSleek Leave-In Creme before my HETT cocktail.

Good luck!
