9 hours and my hair still isn't dry?!

Hi all, I wonder if any of you can help me. I suppose this is also a bit of a rant too
I went CG about 2 weeks ago. My hair looked great and became much more manageable...until yesterday. My hair suddenly just would not dry. I had to sleep with damp hair, which does not work for me at all. I woke up this morning in a complete mess and my hair was so thick I couldn't even pull it into a puff. So at about 3pm I co-washed my hair again, trying to get it back to normal. But it's now midnight and my hair still isn't dry. It feels extra soft and my curls are undefined. What have I done wrong?
I have a christening to go to tomorrow and I can't risk another mess like today, so I am just going to straighten it. At least I know I can leave the house tomorrow! Any ideas on what went wrong? Has anyone lease experienced this?
I think I have low porosity, dense 3c/4a hair.
Also sorry if there are similar threads but I am on my phone and the search doesn't work so well.
When my hair is extra soft with undefined, unmanageable curls, it's usually because I'm over-conditioned or have build-up of some kind. Co-washing alone just doesn't work well for me. I need to low-poo regularly and clarify on occasion.

Thanks for your reply, mhen. So it could be that I just had too much conditioner on my hair. How often do you low-poo? Are there any products you would recommend?
I low-poo 2-3 times a week. My hair is fine and prone to both over-conditioning and build-up. At the moment, I really like the Shea Moisture line. The shampoos are cleansing without stripping my hair.

Protein is also important for fine hair. I use protein rich stylers and do a protein treatment every week or two. If your hair is coarse, protein may not be your friend but most fine-haired curlies love it.

Thank you - I will try to find the shea moisture line of products (I'm in the uk). I'm not sure if my hair is course or not but each strand is very thick and strong (colouring / bleaching doesn't seem to dry or weaken my hair too much).
I'll try a lo-poo every week. If that doesn't work, I'll try a protein treatment and see how my hair reacts. thank you!
My hair is like that and I'm not a fan of walking around with wet hair all day. I cowashed and went to bed with damp hair last night and it is still slightly damp this morning but that is okay bc I'm not wearing it out. Have you tried blotting out excess water before applying moisturizer? That helps me. And look at the amount of product you use bc that will increase drying time. I didn't last night but usually i give my hair a head start with a little time under a hooded dryer. Maybe 10- 15 minutes. HTH
Yes, it's real. No, you can't touch it.
Thanks adthomas. I am going to invest in a hooded drier ASAP!
