Using different conditioners for co-washing and rinse-out
I've noticed that many people here use different conditioners for co-washing and rinse-out. Why is that the case? Which types of conditioners do you tend to use for each purpose (i.e., cheaper vs. more expensive, thinner vs. more moisturizing, etc.)?

Sometimes I use the same product but only if it is protein free. I cant use a cowash with protein followed by a rinse out with protein. It is Too much and my hair isnt as soft.

The only conditioners that I can use for co-washing (besides cleansing conditioners) are extremely light and not moisturizing at all. I do martial arts training 3-5 days a week for up to 3 hours a day so my scalp and roots are dirty, sweaty and gross. A heavy co-wash would leave my roots feeling gunky (even Suave Coconut is too much). But I have long hair and the length does need lots of moisture so my RO is much heavier, but I don't apply it all the way to my scalp.

curious, what is a rinse out? And how does it differ from normally conditioning?

A rinse out is a conditioning tool. It does different things for different folks (detangle, smooth, prep for leave in or styler etc). It's the next step after cleansing, mainly used to moisturize. But mostly it does exactly what it says, which is rinse completely out of your hair. Some folks don't rinse, but at that point, it would be considered a "leave in"...

FYI , cowashing is used to maintain moisture and not strip natural oils from ur hair like sulfate shampoos often do... One uses conditioner to cleanse the scalp, not condition the length (as a rinse out would).
