I desperately need help with 1yo dd hair
My dd will be one soon and has very very kinky hair yet is also very scalp is also very tender. I tried putting putting braids and twists and both resulted in red stress bumps on her scalp no matter how loose they are made. I also tried putting her hair in multiple small afro puffs and still the stress bumps came :banghead: ( I only tied the holder 2x just enough for it to hold the hair). When I leave it in an afro it gets very dry and mats. I oil it with coconut oil and olive oil everyday yet it still is very dry. Is there anything else I can do to keep it healthy and looking neat. Her first birthday is coming up and I would like to have party and it would be fabulous is her hair looked neat.

Please please someone help me.

YouTube is an excellent source of inspiration! Also visit the 4a/ 4b forums here.

One thing I notice is you're using a lot of oil, but no moisture. Curly hair needs a lot if moisture. Oils are for sealing in moisture. Look for water based products as your base layer before applying oils.

Don't give up in her hair! There are methods and techniques to make it fabulous! Just research and try things. :)

Good luck! :)

Ugh, I thought I replied to this but I guess it didn't post....anyway....

Try posting on the 4a forum, they may have more ideas. Meanwhile, we would need more info about your daughter's hair and routine to really often do you shampoo, what products are you using, etc. Then maybe we can see if she may have build up, or protein overload, or not enough moisture and so on.

I NEVER wear twists or braids, my hair is loose or in a bun 100% of the time. For me the main thing with my (kinky curly) hair is to keep it moisturized (not with oil - that's just to seal in the moisture) and to use a product with "hold" like gel. The gel keeps my coils/curls separated so they don't tangle with each other and mat up. I can't tell from your post if you have already tried any of this....also, the CG method really helped me figure out my hair and get it under control. That may be worth a try.
