deva cut and going with straight hair
I have been getting deva cuts for a while and wondering if these cuts are ok if you want to straighten some days also? I'm going to straighten today for a change and have an appointment next week for my trim.
If I go to a regular place for a trim, they always seem to thin my hair out and I have VERY fine thin hair. I didn't get my volume back until I started getting deva cuts and it's been about a year now.
I want to straighten too tho.

Darby--I have a Deva cut and I can straighten. When I got my hair cut I made that request. Sadly, I find that when deva stylists have cut my hair to be worn curly or straight it usually looks better straight. Since I wear it curly most of the time, I might just get a traditional deva cut next time to only be worn curly.

what is the traditional vs. the other deva cut difference??

I think a traditional deva cut will aim to cut each curl individually also the s of a curl and to wear it straight and curly I don't think the bottom ends are cut that way. This is just a guess on my part as I am not a hairstylist.

I want to wear my hair both straight and curly. It doesn't look good straight right now. it is SO UN-EVEN!! And the ends look very split. I am due for a trim but I never realized how bad it looked til I straightened it :(
Whenver I've gone to a straight cut stylist, I always seem to get the shelf look and it looks terrible curly. How do I not get that shelf look?
My hair is fine and thin and is layered. Right now, un even layers. And the curl pattern is nice but too un even to go straight.
I thought about going to the deva cutter and tell her I also want to go straight but she does NOT cut for straight hair and is kind of weird about that. So, I'm not even sure she knows how.

Just called my deva stylist and decided to be totally honest with her. I told her my hair is so uneven when I straighten it but looks good when curly but I want both to look decent. And is there a way with the deva cut?? She said, "yes - we will have to make a couple of adjustments but I can make it so it is symmetrical for straight hair and still go with the way the curls are." She said to come in with my hair straight. So..... I"m going to give her a try.

Absolutely! I've been getting Devacuts for 7 years and I straighten about twice a year just for the heck of it. (funny, before I found CG and Deva cuts I straightened my hair always! 35 years!)

I just make sure I curl it a little with a curling iron after I flat iron it. If I let stay stick straight, it looks a little uneven or wierd with all the layering. The other thing I do is set it on really big rollers instead of flat ironing and that works really well, lots of body.

To be frank, I found that Deva cuts made my hair very uneven if I tried to blow it straight or even do a roller set. I stopped getting the Deva cut for that reason.

Agree. I've had two deva cuts that have left my hair looking so uneven, even when I styled it curly. That's why I just have regular cuts so I can style it straight or curly whenever I want.

Well.... I think I will for go the deva stylist and go with a regular stylist this time. My hair is really a mess!!! It is getting real frizzy and I can see why. There is NO even ness to it. Almost like someone hacked away at all the ends!! I need to go to someone who can even it up and unfortunately - I will probably lose length because of it :(
