Kinda mad at you guys....
Why did no one tell me how awesome Aussie Instant Freeze was????:argue:

I have very fine 3a/b curls that get stringy or weighed down easily with the wrong products. I bought some of this in the store and put it on DRY hair... my hair is not crunchy and it is so shiny! Love!!!

I forgive you guys, I guess. :):love6:

I just picked this up. Even though I prefer natural and more organic products, I wanted to give it a shot since waterlily716 endorsed it for winter and low dews. And I live amidst those dry dry dews. I guess I'll try it out the day after tomorrow. I'm excited now.

MrsMoore78 02-05-2013 07:59 PM

Lol I got it the other day and I LOVE IT. :)

Cheap, too!!

Julesonline 02-05-2013 08:18 PM

I've been using this and like it!

Jas76 02-05-2013 09:54 PM

Yes!! It's a great hard hold gel that isn't heavy on the crunch somehow! Yay!

Dsotomayor 02-05-2013 10:12 PM

I love it too! I use it last to smooth down any frizz and it works great!

Ericachristina 02-05-2013 10:32 PM

Well now ill have to give it a try too

Porosity 02-06-2013 06:52 AM

Will have to try it, I love Aussie 3-minute miracle, been using that for years.

Houseofcurls 02-06-2013 08:44 AM

Except for the cherry bark extract, it has the same ingredients , in the same order, as HESMU.

Yepp I buy these two interchangeably they are the exact same things lol so which ever one is on sale.

This is my HG drugstore gel, I just wrote a raving review for it  I think it's pretty underrated, but figured it just doesn't work for others like it does for me.

Jas76 02-06-2013 07:33 PM

OMG! I totally forgot they were the same thing (pretty much)!

That's why I love it, I guess - it's just like SMU!

curlypooks 02-06-2013 08:11 PM

I want to try this!

Julesonline 02-06-2013 08:12 PM

I know huh?! I LOVE them both! HG for me.

So this morning I used this diluted with some water to refresh my curls when I woke up. It gave me great curl reactivation but left a slight crunch. Probably best to apply sopping wet and not reapply the next day then. Also can somebody tell me if there's protein in it? There seems to be some discrepancy in the ingredients listed here on naturally curly (on the product review database) and on the actual bottle that I bought.

For instance, three ingredients that are listed on NC:

1) humulus lupulus extract (hops), 2) hedychium coronarium root extract (australian white ginger), and 3) panthenol

are not on the bottle I bought.

Also two ingredients acrylates copolymer and disodium edta have moved further down the list but then that's mainly because of the removal of the other three ingredients now that I look at it. So it's not as though there's less of these two. . .

So even though I got a bit of a crunch with this gel today, it's not a dry unsavory crunch like I get with the argan ecostyler or the devagel. (Both of which contain protein.) It's hard to explain. . . My hair still feels healthy and hydrated when I play with it in spite of the gel cast. But that could also be because the gel's glycerin free maybe

Anyways here is what it says on naturally curly:

water, laureth 23, ppolyquaternium 4, hydroxyethylcellulose, benzyl alcohol, acrylates/beheneth 25 methacrylate copolymer, aminomethyl propanol, dmdm hydantoin, acrylates copolymer, fragrance, disodium edta, prunus serotina bark extract (wild cherry), humulus lupulus extract (hops), hedychium coronarium root extract (australian white ginger), panthenol

And what it says on the bottle:

water, laureth 23, ppolyquaternium 4, hydroxyethylcellulose, benzyl alcohol, acrylates/beheneth 25 methacrylate copolymer, aminomethyl propanol, dmdm hydantoin, fragrance, prunus serotina bark extract (wild cherry),acrylates copolymer, disodium edta

Jas76 02-07-2013 10:34 PM

Woah... Those are some discrepancies! My bottles are pretty old, so if there's been a reformulation (which there was for SMU) I don't know that I'll have accurate info. :/

Suggestion for refreshing with this - dilute it, and add a little LI or oil. That will probably help counteract the crunch.
You'll have to play with amounts tho.

Also, depending on how easily your hair frizzes, you might be able to SOTC with some oil rubbed on your hands. Some people like to SOTC with rubber gloves on bc it won't cause frizz.

anonymous_133347 02-07-2013 10:45 PM

Thanks for the advice about oil and LI, Jas. I'm not accustomed to having to SOTC because my kinky curly unfurls all on its own. I need to start learning then. :D

My HESMU and AIF are brand new and here are the ingredients:

Not sure about those ingredients you are listing Dusalocks. I think the ingredients are out dated. It looks like they reformulated. Also, I noticed they are both owned by P&G!

anonymous_133347 02-09-2013 02:57 PM

Thanks Jules! I'm happy to report I believe this product is protein free, and the only humectant I can recognize from the ingredient list is laureth-23. I had this product in my hair for second through third day hair and I when I went to wash it this morning (fourth day hair) my hair was not dried out at all. Seemed very happy and soft. But that might be becausae in addition to the AIF, I also had KCKT, KCCC and SMCES in my hair, all of which are very moisturizing products. In any case, with Aussie both the second and third day hair looked great. I'm using it today instead of my KCCC as an experiment and even though it's still rather wet it looks all right. Good curl formation. No frizz whatsoever even with that polyquat. However I may not repurchase the Aussie gel because I prefer more natural ones (and those that haven't been tested on animals.) Plus the synthetic cherry scent rather annoys me. I did however run this item through the Cosmetic Safety Database and it got a 4 rating which is not too high and relatively safe. :toothy7:But I also have some pattern pusha gel coming my way via post and if that product can provide the extra hold and I fall in love with it then I'll just use this up. Or keep it just in case. But so far it's promising and nice to know there's a drugstore standby gel that's protein free for my hair! How exciting!
