Thread for mousse users:
Could you state your fave, and what the properties of your hair are, if you know them?

Corrina777 03-17-2013 12:16 PM

TIGI Curlesque Strong Mousse (water-soluble cone only). This is the only mousse that I can use without gel, without sacrificing curl definition an frizz control.
Hair properties: fine in texture, thick in density, normal porosity and elasticity.

Fmasuhr 03-17-2013 12:32 PM

i just ordered my very first mousse! im very exited about it and to try it out, ive been wanting more hold, gel is too drying and doesnt give me any hold though more fizz.

Ruth Marie 03-17-2013 02:27 PM

I've used a variety of mousses...lots of different ones work for me. I'm not entirely sure what my properties are. I've got a pretty good guess though. Med-fine, normal porosity, medium thickness.

I like Herbal Essences (Body Envy, Totally Twisted, Tousle Me Softly) I used to like Set Me Up too, but haven't used it in a while so don't know if I still like it or not.
Aussie (Aussome Volume)
TreSemme (Flawless Curls)
Suave (Volumizing)

The Tresemme and Suave both have protein in them, if that's an issue. These are all CG except for the TreSemme, which has -xane(s) in it.

SM Mousse

Honestly it's fantastic product. I think if I had less hair it would be HG. I just have too much hair and my hair is a little too dry for it.

Alfa Parf semi di lino illuminating mousse (bit of a mouthful there!). I have a strong hold one and a regular one (I think - I'm at work so can't check) and much prefer the regular one, the strong one is too much for my hair.
Properties are normal/fine, high porosity, thin and no clue about elasticity.

I've always loved mousse pre-CG; it's just easy to put in, easy to disperse, etc.

I have purchased so many products over the past couple months (mainly gels and jellies), and just this morning (after my hair completely dried), I realized that every time I use a mousse as my styler, my hair looks awesome!

Today, I used KCKT leave in, followed by a generous amount of Curl Keeper, topped with Condition 123 mousse. Diffused, then scrunched in a tad bit of Deva ArcAngel. SOTC with Jane Carter Nourish and Shine.

Perfect hair day! :blob4:

I have fine 2C/3A hair, low porosity, very finicky about products. It lets me know what it doesn't like by instantly becoming a limp greasy mess.

One of the only mousses I've been able to use with good results is Peter Lamas Volumize Me Mousse. It gives me good volume and definition, and if I only use one styling product (like on a weekend when I know I'm riding my bike, or whatever sweaty work stuff I get into), it's this one. I put one pump in my hand, rub it between my palms, flip my head upside-down, and thread my fingers in between my curls near the scalp, squeeze, and repeat until my palms are mousse-free. Usually it takes two to three pumps to do my whole head. Then I cup/scrunch the ends with another pump.

If I'm going to use another product, like KCCC which I'm experimenting with right now, I don't do my ends and I use KCCC on them instead. I've also had good results doing KCCC in the shower before I "headbang" and then doing the mousse on top.

I love love love mousse... Works so much better for me than any gel that I've tried.... my current 2 fav's are Marc Anthony Strictly Curls and the John Freida Frizz Ease one.

Fmasuhr 03-19-2013 03:34 AM

if someone can pls tell me how the morrocanoil mousse is. i ordered it last week, i should get it this week. ive heard that it has water cones in it or somthing....? i low poo my hair, co washing does nothing for me. has anyone tried it?

Aqua_Lily 03-19-2013 06:31 AM

I have fine, medium porosity hair. I have the Jane Carter Solution Wrap & Roll mousse. It's an amazing mousse, I once used it instead of gel and my hair came out great. It was when I lived in a super humid area and when I tried that mousse instead of gel, I had never had so little frizz. I was really surprised. My curls were looser, but looked very nice! Also the smell and the ingredients are great.

Myrna 03-19-2013 07:14 AM

Where do you get Jane Carter mousse??

Aqua_Lily 03-19-2013 07:28 AM

I ordered it on! Here it is: The Jane Carter Solution, Wrap & Roll, 8 fl oz (237 ml) -

I use the moroccan oil mousse and love it! It defines my waves without weighing them down! It also leaves my hair soft and manageable. I've tried many mousses and this is by far my favorite. My hair is really fine and high porosity though.

SM has a mousse? O.O this changes everything. I love that brand, so I must try it.

I current use the Suave Professionals Captivating Curls mousse. It has a cone, or maybe more than one even. Its really thick and creamy like shaving cream. It defines my hair really well though, like as well as a gel but less heavy. I feel like my hair gets some flow and volume from using it. I just really like it.

Fine, normal porosity

I also use the Suave Professionals Captivating Curls mousse. It's Holy Grail status for me, and I do not intend to ever be without it again!

More info on it on my blog (link below)

Fine hair, low porosity

My favorite mousse is Beyond the Zone Noodle Head from Sally Beauty. That stuff makes my hair look glorious!

Myrna 03-19-2013 08:42 PM

I notice most of you have fine hair...I dont, but I still find mousse works best for me, with a bit of gel.

wavywonder 03-21-2013 06:38 AM

I never use's only mousse for my 2B hair. I have dense thickness, medium porosity, normal elasticity. My hands-down fave is Condition 3 in 1 mousse. Affordable, easy-to-find, reliable every day, a tolerable smell that doesn't make me sick and gives me nice defined, but soft, waves and curls. I prefer a natural, soft look but still need hold. This gives me both.

I have to ask...where do you all buy this from? My Walgreens stores (there are a few near me) don't have it. I know I can get it online but shipping negates the low price. Is it easy to find in other stores, perhaps? I checked Wal-Mart too and couldn't find it.

I used to only use mousse in my pre-CG days. I would love to get back to it because I liked the volume and light feeling it gave my hair. :) I know the Extra Hold 3-in-1 mousse has a PEG cone so I've been hoping to give it a try (I'm still trying to avoid heavy-duty cones).
