Scared to try protein?!?!
Hey peeps! I am considering a pt but am kinda iffy if I should or not. I don't want my hair to freak out if I do one. Lately it has not been cooperating kinda fluffy and not curling normal patterns. Plus I don't want to spend money on something that may make my hair go nuts. What do you suggest for a home pt? I have bs length 3a hair very dense normal porosity I think. Waiting for my hair analysis to verify all that. Any advice would be great

I'm protein sensitive so I don't have any recs. I will say for the most part I wouldn't be scared. Most of us whose hair was badly hurt by proteins got that over time. We didn't realize it was because of the protein. I've only ever had one really bad reaction that led to instant damage and I think that's pretty rare.

For DIY PT I suggest IAGirl's gelatin PT. A budget-friendly store bought option is ION Effective Care (at Sally's).

I was scared, too, but did the IAgirl's recipe over the weekend, and WOW! I only left it on for 3 minutes (the minimum). Huge difference in how my hair feels.

You won't know until you try.

The vast majority of curlies can handle protein just fine. Give it a try. Your hair won't fall off if it doesn't like it

Yeah! If it doesn't like it, low poo and DT and you'll be fine! It's not like it will "fry" you hair or something. ;)

Most likely a lot of the products you've used have protein in them!

Go for Protein! If you're really scared about trying it for the first time, do it on a day you don't have plans(aka work, school, etc.) Just give it a shot! I've fallen in love with Aubery Organics GPB Balancing Conditioner!!! You'll never know unless you give it a shot! :) Goodluck!!

I did it! Worked well did the home version with gelatin. Only left it in for a few minutes but it made a difference! I noticed right away that my curls had ce back to life and it looks great today, more clumping and better curls! Thanks for the support ladies. Maybe a little longer next time :)

How often should I be doing this? Some say weekly but I'm not sure.
