Naturally_Curly 03-25-2013 04:55 PM was a total failure. :(
Today I deep conditioned my hair then, in hopes of finding that HG styling product, I tried the BRHG that so many here rave about.

My hair hates it. And I mean REALLY hates it. I need to figure out what is in KCCC and BRHG --it must be the same or a similar ingredient that actually sucks every bit of moisture out of my hair and makes it impossible to finger comb thru--and this never happens to my hair. Ever.

Just as soon as I apply it it's like slurrrpppp~I can actually feel the moisture being sucked right out) then my hair feels super dry and unconditioned and the impossible tangles start--and this is with my hair soaking wet and with a LI. CJ Pattern Pusha does the same thing, but not quite as bad. Finally, my hair became so tangled that the only option was to wash everything out and start over--boo! :sad11:

I'm hoping one of the ingredients experts can give me a clue as to what ingredient does this so I can stay away from it.... the only thing I can figure is that it is some kind of humectant, that pulls moisture from my hair as it is Winter here????

Could I be super sensitive to some form of glycerin???? :read2:

Agave nectar is a humectant and is present in Kinky Curly Custard. Propylene Glycol is another humectant and is present in Biosilk Rock Hard Gel as well as Curl Junkie Pattern Pusha. Your hair may be sensitive to humectants in low dew points.

Thank you, ricotdorothy. That is just the info I needed! :)

Depending where you live, and what the dewpoints are like, you may need to use a small amount of really rich product to "seal" your hair. My hair doesn't care for straight oil/butter, but is fine with them in products. I also stay away from products with chemicals, especially polyquats. No BRHG for me!

Thank you, kathymack. I think our hair is very similar.

I am looking for a liquid similar to CJ CIAB-- light hold and easy to SOTC as well as to run my fingers thru after styling to add volume and break up uber clumps. The gels seem to weight my hair down and are very difficult to SOTC. Mousses work but can be drying and some (depending on the ingredients) can weigh my hair down (Suave Captivating Curls seems to build up and weigh down after a while--even with a sulfate wash or cb wash). Do you have any suggestions? I see you have a few products in your signature, but I am not sure if those are a liquid or even a jelly with a lighter holds or have humectants which my hair seems to not like at all???

Also, did I read you sell samples? Can you PM me a link? I may be confusing you with another member. ;)

Since coming on and learning how to take care of my hair, my curl pattern has really strengthened--so I don't look for hold in any product.

I avoid most chemicals, especially polyquats (so don't use CIAB.) I always end with a jelly product. My definition is gelatinous consistency without the chemicals. I think most of the products in my signature might be of interest (at least the ones that you haven't tried.)

I'm currently trying out the Organicals Gels (Curl Defining and Touchably Soft--which would both fall into that category. I've only had them since mid January, so haven't gotten to use them in other then dry, cold weather. So far, I like them and would repurchase.

I am the one and will pm you.

Ackkk! I hate to sound stupid, but I have spend 30 minutes trying to figure out how to read a PM. I can't seem to find anything to click on to read it? :(

Update--Figured it out--I downloaded it as a text message. :)

kathymack 03-27-2013 09:31 AM

Look at the upper right hand corner--where it says "Welcome, Naturally_Curly. It tells you when you last visited, and has "Private Messages--Number unread and Total." Click on Private Messages.

If you're using the app, I don't know what you do, LOL!
