How do you all feel about straight hair?
I think it's boring and makes you look older than you are. I hate being told I should straighten my hair because my hair texture is a curse supposedly (some boy at school said this to me, I screamed profanity at him).

Personally, when I want it, I like it a lot. I only straighten for trims, cuts, occasional boredom, or to see progress. And honestly, learning all about my hair in its natural state taught me how to do my hair in any state if that makes sense. Even flat ironed, my hair is rarely bone straight. I love volume!

But usually it only stays that way for a week max. Then it's back to my curls!

i feel that our hair texture in its natural state is what suits our faces best. i've seen cute straight hair if that is their natural texture and they get a good cut. i don't think i look good with my hair straightened, my face needs 'more.' not that a curly would look bad with straight hair necessarily, just that i think they would look better with it curly/wavy.

I prefer natural hair. I like natural straight hair but am not fond of the look of ironed/blown out hair.
Whenever I see pics of curlies with their hair curly and straight, I always think they look better/prettier/younger/happier/more vibrant with curly hair.

yossarian 04-29-2013 07:41 AM

It's not for me. I've never straightened my hair. In fact, after my first pregnancy, when I lost a lot of hair and it grew back in straight, I panicked!

Whenever I find myself admiring another person's hair (whether male or female), it's always at least 2c, usually more 3a.

I think all hair textures r beautiful :) straight curly n kinky as long as it's natural , I hate the look of flat ironed hair even on straight or wavy heads looks fried n dull to me .

I adore healthy, shiny, naturally straight hair like you see on the Long Hair Community. I dislike straight hair that has been flat ironed repeatedly, is looking at all damaged from colour services, looks product-y (unnatural gloss/ too much hold), thinning too much at the ends.

And yes my hair did used to look somewhat like that, never flat ironed but damaged mechanically and chemically. Pretty much I appreciate the hair of anyone who treats their hair with love as many curly girls and long hairs do.

It depends on the hair and how well it is maintained. Not all straight hair looks great to me and not all naturally curly hair looks great. I like both curly hair and straight hair when it's healthy and looks good. On myself I like straight hair because I prefer how I look and the way the length changes the shape of my face but I do love my curls and the versatility of my hair.

I love love lovee ittt. Lol with straight hair i feel I actually look 19 instead of being mistaken for 14. Also in the morning I just get up and unwrap it and comb it. But unfortunately my hair can take a lot of heat and after wearing it straight for about 4 days I begin to miss my curls.

I went and straightened my hair over the weekend, thinking it would be fun to have a change. But I miss my curls, I feel naked without them and in some strange way boring and not like myself. I live in Miami, and young ladies with long, straight dark hair are a dime a dozen. I felt like I was blending into the scenery with my straight hair. Just like other posters, I never oogle flat ironed hair... it looks so thin and sad to me if done improperly, especially with ratty ends. But with all things, it all boils down to one's opinion and mine is, do whatever makes you happy with your hair :)

I like to variate between curls and straight and when my hair is straight, I like it. And I actually like that I look older with straight (for now :P) because people always thinks I'm 16 or something with curly hair

BlackAngelPlayah 04-29-2013 12:35 PM

When it's ok when it's healthy. But it's not for me.

justdoingme 04-29-2013 01:56 PM

i love straight hair when its healthy and shiny but voluptuous, and its so effortless to look good, however if i could choose a hair type it would not be straight, it would be swavy/wavy

anonymous_133347 04-29-2013 01:59 PM

Hair is hair. It's beautiful in every texture so long as its healthy and not heat damaged. ;-)

BeautyisMiree 04-29-2013 02:34 PM

I like straight hair when it's healthy but when you have only thee strands like Homer Simpson and screaming straight hair don't care is what I hate.

On me flat straight hair looks like crap. In general to me straight hair needs "help" to be interesting. It needs a great cut or some creativity with color or something. Most people I know with straight hair are always using products to spike or poof it up because otherwise they have what I call "there hair". It's there but you don't really notice anything in particular about it. Sometimes it's kind of stringy too. 99 percent of straight haired women who walk past me I never notice their hair. On the other hand my hair doesn't need any help getting noticed. People are obsessed with my hair. I get comments/questions about it all the time. I had to pull it in a pony tail yesterday at a concert because some guy friends of mine kept messing with and grabbing it. I was so frustrated I almost punched one of them.

lucyprimrose 04-29-2013 07:01 PM

Whether I like someone's hair isn't usually about if it is straight or curly, more about if it has 'something about it' and is in good condition, has a nice cut etc.

I like a 1b -1c look too, not poker straight, not curly - I think a lot of people who have that hair straighten, but I prefer it natural I think.

Morgan_Adcock 04-29-2013 11:41 PM

I agree with you that straight hair can be boring, and sometimes refer to flat ironed hair as being bored straight. It has absolutely no individuality to it, and gives a cookie cutter look, as if the person were interchangeable with any other person with straight hair.

That's an interesting point that it can make people look older, and I think you may be onto something.

Edited to italicize for emphasis that I'm talking about flat ironed hair, not naturally straight hair. They don't look the same.

anonymous_133347 04-30-2013 12:49 AM

Well I agree that plain ole flat ironed hair, especially that news anchor look, can be quite dull. But I don't think naturally straight hair is boring or necessarily makes somebody look older. That's highly dependent on the individual and their particular features. I guess I have a preference for body and movement, but straight hair can move too. It can whip and fly in the wind and shine like a silky curtain. I also have a friend with baby fine, really low density, 1a hair. She never teases or styles it. And you know what? -it suits her. It's her natural hair. She's very bubbly, girlish, and her fine straight hair with her chin length pageboy haircut seems so suited to her. I can't imagine her any other way. I think curly people expressing a distaste (not dis-preference) for naturally straight hair is just as nonsensical as straight haired people not liking our naturally curly hair. If someone's in your face saying your should straighten your hair, I don't think the best comeback is to tell them they should go home and curl theirs. I think it's better to express, quite calmly, that you're comfortable in who you are. It goes without saying that maybe they aren't.

I like straight hair with natural straight people. I myself stopped flat ironing my hair 2 months ago (after 15 years of flat ironing every day). I had way too much hair to straighten and comb and after a couple of minutes my hair would look poofy, big and not cared for...

Now I like my curvy waves (2cish) a loooot better than my flat ironed hair... It looks more healthy, better cared for (although I only spend half the time on it compared with when I flat ironed) and less poofy...
I don't think I would ever return to flat ironing and damaging that hard...
(and I still get remarks every day on my hair as: woow, did you curl our hair? It's sooo pretty... I then answer: nope, before it was fake, now it's my real hair)

So: i like natural straight hair, but not straightened hair, and especially not my hair when straightened...(although at that time I thought it was the best way I could get my hair
