Who DOES NOT like Re:Coil? Doing something wrong?
I bought a thing of Re:Coil a few months ago and gave been playing around with it to see what may be right for my hair.

I've found that a DROP is MORE than enough for my shoulder length hair. How that is, I don't know...but LITERALLY, pea size or less.

Does that sound right? If I used more, my hair looked REALLY greasy later.

I've used it under BSRHG.

However, even with the lesser amount, I'm STILL looking greasy.

I get amazing control at first, though...but after an hour or so, my curl goes straight and the hair goes flat. I doing something wrong or does my hair just not like it? Anything in this stuff that my hair hates? I'm trying to narrow down if ingredients are my overall issue, too.

NEVER have issues with the gel alone:)

I can't stand the stuff. It was a fad product for me, one I just tried because a lot of people like it. I bought it pretty early in my curly journey. It does give me a nice curl but it feels nasty after a while. It's chock full of ingredients and I prefer products that only have a few and have more natural ingredients. I can't tell you why it makes you greasy because I think it's drying. I can't stand the glycerin, mag sulfate, polyquats... those are all potential problem ingredients and what gives me the "producty" feel.

When I use it, I don't use any LI or my hair looks greasy too. A pea-sized amount sounds about right.

I used it when I first came on tried just about EVERYTHING back then. Didn't find it to be anything special, so it went on the swap board.

My hair likes the more natural products. I avoid chemicals, especially polyquats. Re Coil's second ingredient, after water, is a polyquat.

Water/aqua/eau, Polyquaternium-55, Hydroxypropyl Starch, Cetylalcohol, Stearalkonium Chloride, Stearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Corn Starch Modified, Cetrimonium Chloride, Salvia Officinalis (sage) Leaf Extract, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Melissaofficinalis Leaf Extract, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Prunus Serotina (Wild Cherry) Bark Extract, Cymbopogonschoenanthus Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Sodium PCA, Polyquaternium-10, Magnesium Sulfate, Silk Amino Acids, Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzedkeratin, Panthenol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Tetrasodiumedta, Parfum/ Fragrance, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone.

So what's a poly quat?!

This article is what I found about polyquats.

I didnt like it either. I used a small amount over my CK - and i wound up throwing it in the trash. I understand why now - low porosity hair does not take well to products t hat are creams, oils, etc. It just sits on the hair. I always wondered why my coarse hair did not do well with a lot of products others love. Now I know why.

I never liked it either. I don't know if it's because my hair isn't curly enough or what, but it never looks quite right. But besides that, I mainly just hate how it FEELS. To me it just feel so waxy, greasy, and product-y. It was more tolerable if I literally just used a smidge but it still wasn't great and I'd rather just use a light gel and serum/oil for the same effect (definition and frizz control) minus the grossness.

I used it for a few years. I tried to quit using it off and on but always went back. I do have to mention that less is definitely more.

Back in November I seemed to be shedding more hair than normal. I quit using Re:coil and I quit shedding as much hair. After about a month I was able to notice less frizz and my product routine without re:coil seemed to be working. Well, last week I caved and started using Re:coil again! BIG mistake! I had one really good hair day and then here came the extra shedding of hair!

So, I quit using it again and feel like I'm back to square one. I think I'm going to throw it away this time.
