how the hell do u style this mess?????

Hi, im 17 years old and i dont know anything about curly hair and how to take care of it. I used to hate my curly hair because no one around me had it and i thought straight hair was prettier. But now, i love seeing girls with curly hair and i want to have nice hair aswell. My question is: How do i style it? I have no clue, i donīt know anyone personally who has curly hair. I need help. Which products do i have to buy? Can someone please help me? Type in what i have to buy for example conditioner, but i dont want any brand-name because i live in sweden and we dont have all the stuff you may have in your country. So what do i need to put in my hair step by step?? sorry if this is too long help a sista out.

and im confused, i used to have really curly hair put i cut it and used henna so now its wavy... but maybe if i use right products it will be nice again?? i just use shampoo and conditioner in my hair, nothing else. i recently just started to use conditioner. before that it was just shampoo. But i think alot of it has to do with the henna. It made my hair more straight. But that was like 8 months ago

First I would figure out your hair properties to determine what type of products to use. High, normal, or low porosity? (Don't trust the water in a glass test, it's unreliable.) Is your hair coarse, medium, or fine? A lot of us on the board started with a hair analysis. I highly recommend GoosefootPrints on Etsy, because she suggests what types of products to use and avoid with your hair properties.

Next, browse the board and look at signatures. Find a few people with similar or same hair properties and copy them. You can buy products online or there are some international folks on the board you will see.

Your routine should involve a shampoo (or a cowash or a low poo if you interested in following the Curly Girl method), a conditioner (silicone free if you are interested in the CG method), a leave in (conditioner or milk/cream product), styler (jelly or gel) - and some people use an oil to seal.

Here is a link to people's winter routines - What is your current "winter" routine like?

Conditioner is the most important part of your hair's health, as is the ingredients. Find conditioners with ingredients like panthenol, stearyl and ceteryl alcohols, penetrating oils (like argan, coconut, olive) . Also the majority tend to avoid glycerin in low dew points.

If you're having trouble with your locks flattening out, you may need a few protein treatments. If your hair becomes stiff, follow up with a deep conditioner and stop using protein treatments.

Here is a generalized thread of solutions to hair problems - Hair Solutions - What do you do when..?
2c-3a - med-coarse - normal-high porosity - high density

NP/LP: CJ Daily Fix, KMF Whenever / Giovanni TTTT
RO/LI: Aussie Moist, CJ Argan & Olive Oil, Hask Keratin Protein
DC/PROTEIN: KC Stellar Strands / CNPF
STYLER: CJ Curl Queen
COLOR: henna, amla & indigo
: glycerin in high/low dews, polyquat-10 & 11, parabens

if you can get a copy of the book, "the curly girl," by lorraine massey, that is a good start. great tips, important basics. keep reading. read the threads in the Newbie forum.

there are many people here who live in europe so maybe start another thread, "european curlies,' to learn what products they use that may be available to you in sweden.

the basics are no sulfate shampoo, and no cones in your conditioner. if you can only find sulfate shampoo, only wash maybe once every 3 days, and dilute it with water. leave some conditioner in your hair.

it may take time for your hair to respond, be patient. you may also need a haircut.
