Help CG Not working

Hi ladies, could you please help me, I see so many of you with gorgeous curls and am trying really hard to be finally in peace with my hair.

My last sulfate shampoo was around 2 months ago. I clarified with Shu Uemura clarifying shampoo and went CG. I can see some improvement, a bit less dry and less frizz but my hair is far from looking good and my self-esteem is suffering. I used hot irons, GHD, with heat protection for many years, I would air dry and then use the iron.

I have always used good products, Shu Uemura, Kerastase, Joico etc...

2 months ago I started to work from home and decided to give my hair a break and embrace my 3a curls.

My routine is the following:
1-2 times a week Kevin Murphy Angel Wash
Deva Decadence One Conditioner - I use every day as I cant stand the way my hair looks so I need to get it wet every morning. I rinse out around 50% with cold water as it is not supposed to be totally rinsed out.
I follow the Decadence One Conditioner with the Deva Super Cream
I use the Deva Heaven for Hair 2 or 3 times a week
Once a month I do Olaplex , since starting CG I done one stand alone and another with hair dye, I dye similar to my natural colour which is brown, so no bleach. I tend to put up with some re-grow to avoid my hair getting more dry, so I colour every 3 months.
I apply the cream straight after the shower and dry gently with an old t-shirt.
I have also tried:
L'oreal Botanicals Safflower Conditioner and Cream
Kevin Murphy Killer Curls, it has wax in it and makes my hair hard, I didn't really liked the texture and I think waxes are not CG friendly... So after using twice I put it away, I will try to sell as it was super expensive...
Paul Mitchell Twirl Around cream which I quite like but not as much as Deva Super Cream
I really like the Redken So Soft Conditioner but I am not sure if it is CG approved.

2 nights ago I have started using a satin pillowcase.

Please help me as I feel I am doing everything I can but my hair is a mess!!!

I look like the witch's broom!!! My 5 year old made a picture of me and draw a big mess on my head and said that I have crazy hair!
Should I give up???

I have bought the Deva new Build Up cleanser and the new moisture and seaweed cream, which I shipped from the US should arrive by the end of the next week and I am putting all my hope on it!

I have spent a small fortune and a lot of time on my hair and am feeling awful.

Any help or thoughts???

Thanks a lot

Syl

I wonder if you just need to give it a bit more time, frustrating as that is. I used flat irons on my hair for about a year and a half, and like you, always used heat protectant, but it still got damaged and I think it was a good (long) six months before it looked anything like acceptable. I'm not familiar with the products you use, but are any of them deep conditioners or protein treatments? They might help. Also, bear in mind that CG doesn't work for everyone - I got way too over conditioned and always use a low poo, with a sulphate poo at times too. Figuring out your hair's properties might help point you in the right direction with products, expensive isn't always what's best for your hair.
3b in South Australia.
Is it possibly product buildup? Sometimes people find that low poo or no poo is not enough to remove everything. I use a sulfate clarifier every month and follow up with a deep conditioner despite following the cg method.
As for the hair color, you're not overlapping color? When you do your roots, you only apply to the roots and not over previous color?
But as Starmie suggested, be sure to deep condition often. Deep conditioners won't work if you have build up though.
And seconding Starmie again, expensive products don't equal great hair. It's all in the ingredients. I find that many prestige brands have silicone just like the drugstore.
Thanks girls, I will try supermarket products if what i have do not work, I live in NZ and what I can get here is limited... Tresemme Naturals is available and I tried years ago when I first tried CG method, I think it as in 2010.

I will clarify again, last night I slept with the Heaven in Hair DC and this morning I got scared to see that my hair did snap and break super easily when I tried to see if it would stretch.

No stretch at all, only broke very easily...

Im scared!!!
If you hair is suffering from all that heat damage and dye damage, sounds like your hair is high porosity. But then you are doing the Olaplex, and I don't know how that works.

High porosity hair generally benefits from protein. You could try a protein deep treatment. I think the help threads have IAGirl's gelatin treatment which would be inexpensive. (You can also find it somewhere on her blog, the Sciency Hair Blog.)

Suave Essentials Island Coconut Conditioner has silk protein in it, which is a gentle but effective protein. If you think you might have buildup as someone suggested, you could the get the Suave Clarifying Shampoo or VO5 Normal shampoo. Both are sulfate shampoos, which isn't CG friendly, but using around 1x/month for clarifying is ok, if you follow with a moisturizing deep treat (just use your regular conditioner, leaving it on for 5-30 minutes...possibly with heat, then rinse.) All of the above are from multinational companies so you likely can find it at your local supermarket. They are very inexpensive her in the US.

Also, here are the ingredients on the Redken All Soft Conditioner:
Aqua/water, cetearyl alcohol, behentrimonium chloride, elaeis sinensis oil/palm oil, cetyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, octyldodecanol, sodium PCA, parfum/fragrance, citric acid, chlorhexidine dihydrochloride, argania spinosa oil, argania spinosa kernel oil, arginine, hydrolyzed soy protein, hydrolyzed vegetable protein pg-propyl silanetriol

It has isopropyl alcohol, which is drying, but otherwise its CG friendly (no cones), and it has some protein. Your call on whether you want to keep using it. I would say lay off of it for a while. (I didn't check the other products you use, but I would look at the ingredients carefully to see if they are CG friendly.)
Summer: Alaffia Coffee & Shea Revitalizing - Citrus Mint Shampoo and Conditioner
Winter: Alaffia Coconut & Shea Daily Hydrating - Lavender Coconut Shampoo and Conditioner

Fine, 2c, low porosity hair that I color using the 2-step henndigo with amla

Thank you guys, I can see the light
I think it will be a matter of time, it was over 5 years of continuous heat straighting!
It will take time to have beautiful curls, saying this, I can see more shine and less frizz I know my curls are hiding there waiting to come out!!!
It helped to know it may take months until my hair is fully recovered, so thanks for sharing your experience Starmie. All other feedback really helped too. I will change few more things.

No more overlapping colours, guilty on this too!!!
Protein treatments, I have only done DCs
Clarify once a month

I will not be a product junkie anymore and will spend my money in a good cut and colour.

I have found this pretty cool hairdresser in Auckland, he has shoulder length curly hair, trained in France and has years of experience, I have made a booking for early October as I want to wait the colour I have now to fade, it is not permanent colour, and a bit more lenght before he gets his scissors on my curls!

I really appreciate your help, it has been a long and painful couple of months without the GHD, my husband does not understand and my son says I have crazy hair. My friends' feedback are mixed from Did you have a perm? What happened to your hair? To Oh, look at all these curls, they are cute! Is it your real hair?

I may start a new forum about heat damage as I am curious to know how people overcame the damage and how long it did take.

Im happy to find support here!! Thank you guys!

Kevin Murphy killer curls and Paul Mitchell twirl around both have silicones in them (phenyl trimethicone). If you are trying CG and not using a sulphate shampoo then it's likely you have build up from this.

Also I really think it takes hair months and months to recover from damage and heat so you should give it longer than a couple of months to see results.
3A with tight ringlet underlayer.
Mixed porosity, medium texture and density.

Cleaner - Matrix biolage cleansing conditioner, several low poo's
Conditioner - Giovanni smooth as silk, Tresemme perfectly undone, Curl Junkie smoothing lotion
P/T - Aubrey Organics gpb, Curl Junkie repair me
D/T - Shea Moisture manuka honey mask
Styling - Paul Mitchell round trip, Paul Mitchell super sculpt glaze, Jessicurl rockin ringlets & spiralicious gel.

Strict CG doesn't work for everyone, my hair needs some silicones (I try to keep them to a minimum and look for water soluble ones but don't avoid them entirely) or its always super tangled and frizzy, so I do mod-CG instead which does work. I definitely agree with the protein treatment recommendation too, protein has saved my hair, but make sure you follow it with something moisture heavy.

But since it takes a while for the damage to recover, I do protective styles like French braiding my hair at night and those really help me with curl formation and definition.

Can you get any Australian products over there? I use Sukin moisturising shampoo (though annoyingly can't find it atm) which I found really helpful when my hair was particularly dry and frizzy a while back and have continued to use, and also their protein conditioner which is enough of a protein hit for my hair as it doesn't like too much. I also use Natural Instincts moisture surge conditioner which is a recent recent discovery and very good.

Yes, Natural Instincts are great products and very well priced!
I did use oil yesterday and my hair is very soft and shine today, the curls still looking funny, they do not keep close together, they form and get away from each other and I can see the background between the curls, it is weird, but no frizz, though but I can see lots of improvement, yay!!!

At the moment I am sticking with what I have bought as I promissed myself I will not spend any more money with my hair.

Im using
Kevin Murph Angel wash, sulphate, silicone and paraben free
One Conditioner Decadence
Devacurl Super Cream

For treatments, I am currently using
Devacurl Heaven in Hair
Grapeseed oil as I find Olive oil too heavy

And I have the Devacurl clarifying micellar water and protein treatment arriving in the mail sometime this week!

Im starting to like my curls but panicking as they do not look that great yet and I will be out of the house (I do work mainly from home) seeing clients soon... It will be especially interesting seeing new clients when I need my confidence high! I will try to make it up wearing my favourite sunnies, shoes and bags!!

It is amazing how our hair plays up with confidence!!!
That is how it looks like
