Indecisive About 2 Bay Area Salons... Please Help!
Hi Curlies! So I recently joined the forum and became completely addicted. I read all the posts about MaduSalon as well as Teresa Callen. I just don't know which one to go too. I live in San Carlos which is in the Mid Peninsula so Teresa is closer to me. However, I have emailed and left her a message and she hasn't responded. =( I'm not sure if I should go to MaduSalon or wait for her to respond.

I really want a good cut since my hair is so long. I don't want to lose the length right now it is 37". Anyway I have seen posts from both CurlyOTPie and CurliLocks and I just don't know what to do. I'm so confused I would seriously cry if I got a horrible cut. Here are a couple of pics of my hair:

It has grown out longer since these pix but the only new pictures I have are with straighter hair and they are here:

I'm learning to love my curls and since starting CG only 2 days ago I have already noticed a major difference in my curls! (I was never big on poo previously, I would only poo maybe once a week or so.)

How long has it been since you contacted Teresa? It took a few days for her to get back to me. She only works at the salon a couple of days per week. Did you call? Here's the number from her card JIK: 1-650-323-6171

I am very happy with my cut from Teresa and I'm trying to talk my sis into seeing her too. My hair is not as long as yours but she did not really take off any length at all. It's been about 14 weeks and my hair is getting longer and it still looks great. :)

ETA - you have beautiful hair!

Thank you so much for the compliment I love you hair as well. I looked at your pictures and she did a very good job taking the bulk away. I did call and leave a message, but it was a different phone number. Maybe I'll try this number you gave me... (I don't want her to think I'm a stalker!) :D

When I got my hair cut by Carolina at Madusalon, I did not really loose any length, but rather she just shaped my hair so that it was less poofy and it helped it to be more curly. I honestly don't see how you could get a "bad" haircut with the way she cuts hair, which is dry and curl by curl.

They schedule the deva appointments with lots of time and, in my case, she really took her time and evaluated each curl while she cut. It was a very different experience than I've had at ANY salon when usually they cut wet and larger sections at once. I have never loved my hair as much as I do now.

Also, Carolina has naturally curly hair, so she knows what curly hair is all about, which helps. I'm sure that if you went with her and you talked to her about your concerns and fears, she would be able to reassure you.

Ultimately, I don't think that there is anyone who can make you loose your nervous anxious feelings when you're getting your hair done by them for the first time. We all have that fear of the unknown. Still, there are decent places where us curlies can go!

I wish you the best of luck! Please let us know who you pick and how your appointment goes.

I will definitely let you know who I choose and how it came out (Especially before and after pix! They are so much fun.) Thank you for your suggestions, I'm planning on waiting to hear from Teresa until early next week. I left her a message and an email on the 15th so that is ample time to respond. Also on her website it says that she gets booked for 3-7 weeks if 7 weeks is the case I will definitely try to get into MaduSalon earlier.

If I don't hear from Teresa by Tuesday than I will make an appointment with Caroline at MaduSalon. Thank you so much for your replies!!

I would leave a message at the number I gave you, she did mention the other number was her old contact (changed salons). Call today! :) That gives her a couple of days to get back to you before you decide. Teresa does have wavy hair too. Sometimes she is booked far out, but I kept calling and filled a cancellation appt in a couple of days. :D Worth a try.

Ok so I'm totally impatient and I booked a appointment at MaduSalon. I couldn't wait for Teresa any longer and MaduSalon was able to give me an appointment next Sunday 05/27/07!! Yay! So excited! I'm seeing Shannon because I can only come in on Sundays. I will be sure to let everyone know how it comes out and take before and after pictures.

CurliLocks I tried the number you gave me and the receptionist said she no longer works there. I found her at and her new number is (650)-322-6868. One of the reasons I didn't wait for her, was because my work is so demanding, I don't have a very flexible schedule right now. Yuck! But what can I do I'm an entry level college grad. I should be happy with working!

I'm pretty excited about Shannon I've read good reviews about her on I'll be crossing my fingers

Update: So Teresa called me back, however she doesn't work Sundays or Mondays which are the only days I could really invest 3 hours for a hair cut. I'm glad I got the appointment at MaduSalon.

Ack! I'll have to try calling next week to see where she went. She had just moved to Textures when I saw her.
The link and number you posted are her old contacts (she said). I wonder what's up? And I hope the move doesn't mean a price hike. :?

I think you're going to get a cut you love with either salon, they are both deva trained. MeduSalon will probably be better since Teresa is not available Sun and Mon when you are. I only recommended Teresa because I'm so happy with the cut and because she was closer for you. I thought of MeduSalon too, but didn't want to travel so far from Newark every time.

So we'll be waiting for those before/after photos then! Good luck and enjoy the experience. :D
