made a terrible decision, need help

Well, I've been growing my hair out for 2 years and never touched it.
Yesterday I get this impulse to dye my hair at a salon. The color looks great. The hair itself? Oh boy.
When I got home I cried. It was an afro, and so much frizz I looked ridiculous.
So I tried the VO-5 fruit smoothie 'poo like I've read on here, no such luck it made it more dry.
Then I went out and bought one of those deep hot oil treatments (I think also by VO-5). You heat it up and leave it on your hair for a minute and then rinse? Well now it looks okay, but if I touch it it feels absolutely disgusting. Like I read for someone else on here it feels like straw.
Anyone know of something I could do to get the moisture back? I'm willing to try anything!
I'm also new to the boards so I apologize if someone has asked a question the same or similar to this one.
Edited due to a cyberstalker. Sorry, guys.

Having curly hair is all new to me, I never had it before I got sick so some things I just don't know about having curly hair. I hope you don't mind me asking some questions to your response.
If you are protein sensitive what does your hair look like? I'm not sure if I am or not. I used Garnier Curl and Shine shampoo and Curls Rock Conditioner before and it always looked dull and flat. I kind of thought this hair dying might change that dullness but not so far!
I have one more of the oil treatments left (it came in a box of 2), if I put that in my hair and left it in instead of washing it out right away could that help? I read on here someone use oil and left it on overnight before and it helped them so I didn't know.
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Hot oil treatments are really iffy. Some people like them, but my observation is that most people on this board don't like them at all. I would not do the second treatment since the first one was not a success. I would do a moisturizing or protein deep treatment instead.
