Hi beauties!

New to Naturally Curly & the CG method. I just recently chopped off several inches of my dry, color-treated and abused hair. I am biracial and growing up, I had absolutely NO idea how to style and take care of my hair. So beginning in the 7th grade I attacked my hair with a straightener every. single. day. Things eased up when I got to college but I noticed my natural wavy/curly hair was frizzy and had absolutely no definition. So I decided to make a change! Today was my first day doing the CG method, and I'm so excited to love my hair again. Thanks for reading!

I've had quite a lot of changes over the past year with my hair.

Long Hair Last June (after getting a bunch chopped off because it was getting HEAVY):

Short Cut Last June (donated hair to cancer charity):

Short cut, blow dry straight in December 2014:

Yesterday, after CG for a few months, NO products, just LI:

I miss my long hair, but I know my hair will grow - it just takes time! I loved that my hair was wash-and-go when it was long. I could wash it at night, it would be dry the next morning, and I didn't have to do anything to it! It would look great down with no products. If I wanted to, I could put it in a ponytail, a bun, a braid, a French braid, or any number of up-dos. I could blow dry it very straight and use a flat iron to get it super straight, or I could just leave it with a bit of soft natural wave in it.

I can't do any of that with it short. I have to style it, even if it's just blow drying it. If I wash it at night, I can't just get up and wear it without any styling the next morning - it ends up sticking out in all kinds of different directions, or looking incredibly messy.

I know my hair will grow again. I just need to be patient. But I can't wait until it is wash-and-go again! I'm very active (teach group fitness classes, train for marathons, train for triathlons) so I really miss the convenience of wash-and-go hair. I do like my waves, however!

I am a mixed raced sista and i definitely understand what you went thru. I have worn my hair chemically relaxed, texturized, pressed, dyed, etc., all in the past and outside of the times when I went to the hair stylist, I really didn't know how to correctly take care of my hair. When I finally decided to embrace my natural hair and stop getting chemical treatments, and learn how to properly take care of what God blessed me with, I actually learned more about haircare and how to best my manage my hair in its natural state. than when I was doing a whole lot of stuff to my hair, that simply didn't agree best with it.

I don't do a whole lot with my hair. As, I am partial to mainly doing wash n gos, or when I feel lazy, I will certainly wear my hair in either a bun or ponytail. And, when I do use direct high heat on my hair, such as a blowdryer and flatiron, in order to wear my hair straight, I actually may do do 1 or 2 times a year at the most. However, I don't actually flatiron my hair on a yearly basis, so most of the time, I wear my hair curly. And, I love it!

I definitely wish you all the best with your curly journey!

Thank you for your reply Reservechic! I'm so excited to be here, it hasn't even been a week and the change in my hair has been like night and day. My whole attitude towards my hair has changed now that I'm learning how to care for it. Knowledge is truly power! I suspect I will enjoy wearing my hair curly in the future and no longer feel the need to straighten it anymore! I actually put my heat tools away in a shoebox last week

Looking forward to updating within the next couple of months!
