Ways to put up short curly hair...

I gather my hair in a lose knot at the nape of my neck (or higher, it depends on how full the curls are that day; less full=higher up) twist, and stick 2 chopsticks in to hold it. Then pull out random curls for the "messy" look.
I'll try to take a picture soon
I buy the chopsticks for $1 a pair at the Asian grocery story, and they're nice quality, wood lacquered.
There are some really cool clips etc out there, lots in boots! (UK) I'm gonna hunt for some tomorrow, But I just basically clip up the back and leave some curls down at the front for a natural look. The miley look looks nice i might try that... but i'm afraid of emphasized triangle head!!

Saw this and thought of you guys:

You could pin it back, then use ribbon to do the hair band look. I think this is very becoming.

I once had a curly bob myself, and I'd use different hair pins and clips to pull back my hair with little braids and twists.

Hair is best when wabi-sabi.

Oh gosh, thanks for bumping this thread! I'd completely forgotten about it & have been stumped as to how to put up my newly-short curlies. Thanks a million, NCE.

I actually had this thread bookmarked from way back when
I didn't take a picture of the other side complete, but at the bottom I've added a shot of me twisting that side and then a final front shot. Hope that helps!

I should have just taken video...put here are some pics. My hair started out messy because I had just taken it down from being up with 20 pins all day.

These are the clips I use.

I grab a small amount of hair on top next to my part.

Then start twisting down, then secure with the clip.

Do it on the other side and voila!

I have reverted back to the good old 1980's banana clips - remember those? http://www.liketotally80s.com/banana-clip.html

It works great on a slightly longer bob and gives the illusion of a longer ponytail.

Great for 2nd day hair and those times when the curls need to be contained a little bit.

Sigh...I miss the 80's!

Oh lord do I remember those clips. I need to see pics of your hair in this clip.
okay, so I really can't explain what I did here because all I did was stuff everything back with bobby pins and then pull out little wisps/strands to soften the look. Closest thing I'll get to a low bun at this length. Anyways, here are some pics.

Also! I found some super cute $2 clips at Forever21 the other day and they are great for pulling back some of the front pieces of hair to keep it out of my face.

Hi guys..none of you are probably on this page anymore but I hate wearing my hair down because I feel like it just curls crazy even when I know it doesn't. I just have a lot of hair, not length wise but thickness wise, so it can frizz to be really big sometimes and I hate it. I'm only 13 (fine 12 but I'm close enough!) and i'm tired of my old ponytails. Does anyone have some easy yet cute hairdos I can try, I have 3B hair and it comes maybe an inch or so off my shoulders (it would be longer if it didn't curl!). I'm used to having really longer hair so I don't know what to do with myself until it grows out again. Help!

This type worked well, too, and is a little more polished-looking. It holds a little more loosely so that the sides don't look as skinned back like they can sometimes look with a regular banana clip:
