The fight for 2nd day hair
Ladies, I no its very hard to get second day hair, and I am one of those people..

Any tips?..

I've tried the hair at the top of your head, the add products, scrunch, redo type idea BUT it's always frizzy and lifeless and too be honest I hate washing my hair everyday to get it "right".

So lets start the tips for all those ladies who cannot achieve the 2nd day hair...

Don't give up!!! It took me awhile. I know you said pineappling didn't work for you, but it started working for me and is awesome!! I then stumbled upon CJ Aloe Fix for 2nd day hair and it is incredible!! Try that!!

I bought sample from Kathy Mack. You can search for her using the search function at the top of page, advanced search, kathymack is her username. Or if you want to just buy the whole tub, you can buy it at this site at CurlMart or at

I just either put a finger tips worth on my palm, rub together, and smooth over my hair. Or add a little water and smooth over and around certain curls that have frizz and around the bottom of my hair. Do a search for Curl Junkie Aloe Fix. Lots of people love it!! :)

The more hydrated your hair is the more likely you are to get 2nd day hair. It took me 8 months. My advice would be not to fight for it. Just find a good moisture/conditioning/leave-in regimen and work it.

Also, in addition to moisture, a good gel for hold helps retain curl shape. I just wet my hands and scrunch a little water into my BSL-length hair on the 2nd day, then air dry. 10 minutes later, once it's dry, I scrunch again, and my hair is good as new.

I use leave-in (for moisture) + curl enhancer (for curl) + gel (for hold), and low poo every other day.

I'm a wavy with long, heavy, thick hair, so it's very hard for my weak curl pattern to hold up overnight. But I will rarely clean or wet down my hair more than three times a week so I've learned to live with my second- and third-day hair.

Some days I get lucky and I can refresh it enough to wear it down. Others, I'll revive as best as I can but pin back the top front bits (the long grown-out bangs). Or I'll do a half-up/half-down. Or I'll put it up in a bun or other kind of twist or knot. When it's hot, or when I'm working out, I have to do this anyway. I'm starting to play with more pins, forks, and hair sticks now, and enjoying all the different looks.

Also, if it's dirty or giving me problems, I'll oil it with jojoba or coconut oil and comb through gently. This way I can get straight, smooth hair, which I put into two long braids, wearing them down or coiled up on my head. I like this look a lot, too, and it gives me a nice DT. I'll sleep on it and clean in the morning.

So far, any gel that holds my hair well enough to keep my curls for a second day has been just too drying or otherwise icky for my hair. But I'll keep experimenting.

I never get 2nd day hair, and recently I started experimenting. I've had great success mixing a small blob each of FOTE and LA Looks Sport Gel (the blue one). I smooth it on from top to back (like a pony tail), then bend at the waist and scrunch. After a short time, it's dry and I gently scrunch out the crunch.

It's nowhere near perfect 2nd day hair, but good enough that I feel comfortable being seen in public!
