Hello fellow curly peeps

Someone at work had told me about this site a while ago, I just happened to stumble on it on my own recently. I only wish I had came here when I first heard about it. I've got what I think is 3a hair, it is super fine and usually very limp. I've started a modified CG routine, can't go full out till payday but I intend on going poo-less or low poo. I haven't gotten all the acroynms down yet but i'm working on it, i've been lurking for 3 days now. I've been plopping and trying to co wash with vo5 but don't have a good conditioner to use as a LI yet and also don't know if my styling products are right. I use ISO bouncy creme which I looked up and appears it is cone free so I will keep on with that, and I love how it smells and handles in my hair. I've been putting a paul mitchell mouse over the top of it on soaking wet hair but I haven't even looked to see if it is appropriate or not yet. Don't have much choice since it is all I have right now. I have never had good luck with gels they seem to put to much weight on my hair... any suggestions for a light gel?

I was fighting my curls for a very long time, I was to the point where I was looking into a straightening process so I didn't have to deal with blow drying and using a flat iron daily. I got so frustrated that I finally realized what I really needed to do was understand my curl and help it be the best it can be.

Thank you thank you thank you to all that are involved in this site and bringing all this great informaiton to the non-informed curly headed masses

Your hair sounds like mine! If it's very fine, a good basic conditioner to use is Suave Naturals Coconut (which has a lot of protein - fine hair tends to need protein). I'd use that for your co-wash and use the VO5 for your rinse-out instead, but it's up to you. The best part is, Suave is available at any drugstore and super cheap.

Also, the Herbal Essences gels are all great. The lightest one is probably Totally Twisted - and if you find that gel is still too heavy, try diluting it with a little water. My hair can't take heavy gel either but the HE gels work fine, and they're under $5! Yay! I've also heard lots of praise for La Bella Lots of Curls, Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee and LA Looks Sport Gel, but none of those are available in drugstores where I live so I haven't tried them.

I don't think your Paul Mitchell mousse is too bad, but if you're going modified-CG for right now and can't switch yet, you can keep using it. From what I can see it has a couple of PEG-modified cones and polyquats - the danger is that it may dry out your hair.

CG is all about experimenting, though. You may have to adjust how long you plop for, how much gel you put in, etc. etc. Good luck and you can ask questions here anytime - everyone is very helpful. I still have questions myself.

Btw - I love your screenname.
Thick, mostly 2c with some 3a; fine texture, medium/high porosity, and a very strange curl & wave pattern.

Started CG (properly) as of 6/31/2009.

Cowash | Suave Naturals Ocean Breeze or Juicy Green Apple
Rinse-out | Burt's Bees Super Shiny
Leave-in | Live Clean Intense Moisturizing

Right now: growing hair past shoulder-length, looking to take decent hair picture (my avatar is my first day of CG).
Thanks for the tips, I appreciate the help. I think i'll give the HE Totally twisted a try, I'm not really stuck on using the Paul Mitchell Moose it just happens to be what I have at the time. I used to be a product junkie but I downsized and tried only buying product that I was going to use daily... that is going to change now of course LOL

I'm also going to go get the suave condish.
