What's your favourite DT?

I'm fairly new here and I have read some posts about people using great deep treatments, some homemade, some using store bought products. I haven't tried any yet because I'm not 100% sure what will be good, what to mix, what not to mix... but I would love to get some ideas.

I was wondering if we could start a thread about our favourite DT homemade or store bought.

When you share yours, please include amounts of the ingredients, whether you use it before or after shampooing (i.e. on clean or dirty hair), how often you do it, and the results (shiny, moisture, etc.)

I'm sure something like this will be helpful to many newbie CG's!!!

Hi and welcome!

For home-made/DIY, you may want to check out the All Natural sub-forum here for some ideas. I'm not a DIY girl, so...

My HG is Terax Crema because it's cone-free and very convenient to use (so I actually stick to using it regularly). I leave it on for maybe 3-5 minutes in the shower once per week. Other faves that take more time are Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment and Ouidad Deep Treatment (expensive, but my hair loves it as an occasional treat when I have time to use heat. I buy the small bottle since I dont' use it much and a little goes a long way, also less of a $ commitment that way).

I hope that helps. There are a lot of threads about DT's. When you have time, maybe do a search and see what comes up. A lot of times, what someone uses as a leave-in, another person might use as a DT, so you can learn about a lot of options that way too.

I love to DT with the GVP Conditioning Balm.

Two new favs are the Lustrasilk Aloe Vera Cholesterol and also their Shea Butter Cholesterol Plus. They are $2.79 at Sally's, but this last time I got them on sale for $1.99. I'm going to go get more today. So far I like these as well as the CB so I am just rotating.

I like to DT 2x a week. I usually give myself a good water wash, glop it on, cover with a disposable plastic cap and wrap it in a towel warmed in the dryer. Sometimes I leave it on 30 minutes, sometimes longer. Then I rinse it well and add some leave in, usually CB. I just got the Lustrasilk Olive Oil Cholerterol, but haven't tried it as a leave in yet.

My hair is crazy dry and this keeps it looking its best. It just looks healthy and happy.

Good luck.

Good stuff ladies! I've tried hair mayonnaise & hair cholesterol before but felt like it left a lot of buildup in my hair
I bought some GVP cond balm today so I'm excited to try it & see the results! Maybe I'll become a GVP pj too lol!

Keep the ideas coming!

Plain ol' coconut oil.
My favourite is Montagne Jeunnesse Avocado and Cherry Bark hair mask. It just makes my hair feel so silky and sooooooooooo ease to detangle. I shampoo and then use it as an intensive conditioner whilst I'm doing the rest of my shower.

The only downside is that it doesn't come in a big tub but only in individual sachets which is annoying both in terms of cost and environmental wastage. It's actually a two part sachet with a serum but that's loaded with cones so I rarely use it unless I know I'm going to do a sulphate-poo the next day. The actually mask is cone-free though.

  • Happily using a mixture of sulphates, cones and CG products.
