Applying Leave-in Conditioner Before Gel

So I know it's best to apply gel on soaking wet hair...but I've also generally read that it's not very useful to apply conditioner to wet hair, since hair can act like a sponge and thus be unable to soak up any more moisture. So what do you do if you are applying leave-in conditioner before gel?
Type 2b/2c, med/coarse, low porosity, medium density

Co-wash: Suave Naturals Tangerine, Live Clean Moisturizing, CJ Daily Fix, GTTT, Tigi MM

Conditioner: Tigi MM, Jessicurl WDT, CJ Curl Rehab, CJ Daily Smoothing, CJ H&B Deep Fix

Deep Treatment: same as rinse out

Leave-in: KCKT or my rinseout

Styling Aids: Alberto/V05 Gel, HETT/HESMU, KCCC
I apply my leave-in and then I apply aloe vera gel. I also think it depends about the mixture of conditioner and gel. I've tried many different combos with not so pretty results. So far I've been able to use AVG with a combo of V05 & AOWC conditioners, with no white stuff or residue.

I always apply my leave-in before the gel, but my hair is usually not soaking wet. Hmmm....

That is a good question. Now I'm a little confused as to if I'm doing it correctly....
Hair Type - wavy/curly, fine texture, thin/medium density
I apply my leave in (AO IN or AO HR) , then my oil (coconut and castor) to seal in moisture from water and LI. The last step is to apply the gel. I use Ecostyler gel or Afroveda Pur Whipped Gelly. These products are applied to wet hair.

I read that some gels do not give the desired hold if an oil is applied before using it. I have experimented with using a lighter or diluted LI then using a cream styler and/or gel. If you use oil to seal, you may want to add it before you add your LI and/or after you apply your gel.
Hair: coarse texture; low porosity; normal density and elasticity
