How long have you been growing your hair?

I have officially been growing my hair out for almost a year, it grows sooooo slow. I've had cuts over the past 2 years, but now only get it trimmed and shaped up. Looking back, it really hasn't changed much (maybe a few inches) in the last few years. Will it ever grow? It doesn't seem to with the curl springing the lenght back up.

Hi Mamacurl! I have been growing mine out for about two years, but I was just KIND of growing it out since 04. Average hair growth per month is 1/2 inch. My hair has grown as much as an inch a month. I know because I am obsessive and measure it the first of the month. LOL! Otherwise I'm sure I would be friustrated and just cut it off again. I am up to 22 inches (last month) which - when wavy - is in the no-man's land between my shoulders and bra strap. I am shooting for waist length like I had in high school. Even when I grows fast it still seems to take forever, especially if you get trims! Your hair looks great! Hang in there!
Welcome MamaCurl3!

ITA with HeatherDawn, hair looks great! And yes, your hair will grow! You have to limit the cuts to 1-2x's a year and find a routine that works for your hair.
I have been growing my hair for 2 1/2 years and I trim just once a year. I didn't think it was possible, but my hair is now just above waist length when wet! Hang around for tips and suggestions! Feel free to ask for help!

Thanks Heather and Maya, I've been getting a trim about once every 3mos or so. I always end up with dry ends after about that long. I'll try to go only twice a year and see how that goes. Maybe I'm just trim happy. LOL Do you all take vitamins, or eat a special diet to promote healthy hair growth? I eat healthy balanced foods though am not so good about taking a vitamin. Maybe I should start and see if that helps? How do you keep your hair healthy between trims?

I've been growing mine out for about 3 yrs. When I first started it was a little above my ears, now it's a little past my shoulders.
I really want to get it chest length but lately it's been shedding like crazy and refusing to grow.

My hair type is 4a/4b btw
I've been growing out my hair for 3 years and I thought it was taking forever. But I realized my hair never curls the same so it always looks like it's different lengths. I do take vitamins everyday and I think it helps it certainly does with my nails, but my hair seems to be more healthy. I just take a liquid multi vitamin which is the source of life multi vitamin, cod liver oil pills, fish oil pills, and biotin everyday. If it isn't helping with my hair it certainly is helping with my skin.

Only for about a month. I had been growing it out from a short cut since February, but I got tired of long hair again and cut it back to just below my chin last month. It was an impulse thing that I regretted soon after - I had been going through some stress and was sick of dealing with all that hair. It's almost to my shoulders now. I want to grow it maybe a few inches more, and not give into impusle next time!
Hi Mamacurl!
I've been growing out my hair for about a year and a half. When I started my hair was about your length in the first picture and now my hair is below BSL length when wet (about 9 inches of growth after trims). I have only been getting trims once a year or twice at the most. I rarely use heat on my hair, I co-wash or use gentle cleansers (never sulfate shampoos), and I avoid coloring my hair (only a henna gloss if I am really craving a color change). I used to take vitamins but they made me sick so I stopped. I do eat extremely healthy though.

I hope your hair grows extremely fast in 2008!
I transitioned and I've been trying to get my hair back to my pre-transitioning length (waist). I started transitioning in March 2003 and cut off the rest of my relaxed hair in August 2004 leaving me with shoulder length natural hair. I am now at mid-back length so I should reach waist length. I've had some bumps in between that's kept me from my goal but I'm still working on it. I hope to reach waist length next summer.

I cut my waistlength hair into a bob in Jan 1997,Aug. 1997 I was placed on medication,so my hair was stuck at shoulder length when curly.I would grow it by taking supplements and it grew to BSL when straight by's at waistlength again when stretched, thanks due to my supplement taking daily. They really do work because I'm on alot of medications.Happy Hair Growing to you ALL!!!
3B-3C, alittle past tailbone length,age:41 years
I've been growing it out since I was 13, 15 years, with only very occasional trims. It reaches my butt if you pull the curls down. What can I say, I had a hair cut where I went in with butt length wavy hair and thanks to my mom trying to cut it herself and then having to have it "fixed" I came out with three inch poodle curls all over my head and the nickname of "Little Orphan Annie" for the next two years. Looking like Bozo the Clown has a way of putting one off haircuts. I still hate even having a trim.

I've been on a no poo regime for the last five or six years and my hair is very healthy and happy.

I've been growing my hair out for a year. I was keeping a stacked bob to grow out a relaxer and I haven't had the back of my hair cut since 8-24-2007 (4.5 mths?)

I've been growing mine out for about three years - maybe longer. My problem was always really bad split ends so every time I went for a haircut, they'd tell me I had to have quite a bit taken off. Sometimes I felt like I was going backwards! Some of it was my fault - too much colouring and using hair straighteners - but the hairdressers often used razoring to thin my hair, and it gave me the worst split ends I've ever had. Haven't been to a hairdresser since October 2006 after they did it again, and now I cut my split ends off myself. I'm aiming for bra-strap length when stretched out - then I'll see where I go from there!
I don't remember when I started growing out my hair really. Even before I became a curly girl. However, now that I am a CG, I'm growing it even more. It was about SL before and now its about bra strap length. Sometimes it seems halfway to waist. The thing I love is that my hair is layered. In HS I grew it almost to waist but it was all one length and it was too heavy so I got headaches.
So what's this thing I keep reading about biotin? Does that really help your hair grow faster.
And is there some type of oil or other treatment you use on your ends to keep them healthy.
Also, I'm a 3a so I'm really worried about losing a lot of curl if I go too long.
