Strange texture hair growth from thyroid problem?
Anybody else have this? I have these short incredibly coarse hairs sticking up and out from my scalp. Texture feels strangely different than the rest of my hair. Most importantly, is there anything I can do about it (other than painfully pluck them all out one by one)? I also have a B12 and iron problem if that makes a difference.

Before you start plucking anything please see the doctor who is monitoring/treating your thyroid problem, they may need to or be able to adjust treatment to help you. I have a thing about plucking hairs out of one's scalp, you never know when the root will be so damaged they won't grow back. Good luck!

i have these and have for YEARS... and i have no thyroid problems that I am aware of. I think it's just my hair. I have a mixture all over my head ranging from baby fine to super coarse.

Purrplekat - Lol, I was joking about plucking. They are seriously ALL over the top of my head...I'd be bald if I plucked them out. Eek!

Cat Lady - Hm, interesting. Mine are definitely new within the last year or so. :(

How old are you? I started getting the coarser hairs in my late 20s and i think it's just from my normal hormonal changes with age.

Thyroid issues may be an issue. I do recommend seeing a doctor.

When I had my thyroid removed, I don't know if it was the thyroid or the chemo, but that's when my hair turned wavy. I had stick straight hair as a child.

Any changes you notice in the way your body works really should be run past a medical professional, it might be nothing it might be a symptom. At the end of the day you know your body better than anyone, you know what is 'normal' for you we do not.

I've already run this past my doc (who is wonderful) but he seemed kind of baffled by it. I have a lot of health issues which we've been focusing on that probably seem more important to him. I guess I was just looking for some kind of confirmation from others who may be experiencing this since I suspect thyroid is the problem. I guess the best confirmation I can get is improvement after getting my thyroid completely under control. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for sharing your experiences and offering up your advice ladies!
