Hi out there. I'm the only person in my family with curly hair and had to try and control it on my own for years. My screen name comes from a bunch of cute little girls telling me that I had 'princess hair', "cause it's long, and curly and pretty"
I'm currently in the process of getting supplies and things together to go CG cause I'm tired of frizz and damaged hair.
I'm Ashanti. I am a Texas girl (not born, but definitely raised) These days I flutter between Austin and Dallas. I have been natural for the past 8 years. I am about to end the year long journey that I took into the world of dreadlocks. It was something I tried, but just haven't truly come to love for my own hair. Apparently I am a 4b/a so I am looking for so ladies with tight kinky curls to share their findings on products that help really define and weigh down their curls. I wore an afro, flat twists, and 2-strand twists for quite awhile and I think this time around I would like to expand my library of hairstyles a bit more. If anyone out there with 4a/b grade hair has advise please share. Thank you all. I look forward to showing off my new 'do soon.
hi, I'm new to this site. I have found it very helpful to read about everyone's transitions. I'm transitioning not from relaxed hair but bleached hair and after 2 years I am seeing my curls and loving them very much, I can't wait until I have long curly hair!!
Hi All,
I just wanted to say that this is a wonderful site! I've been lurking for the past few weeks, but finally decided to join!

While, technically, I've never chemically processed my hair, I've been wearing it straight for a number of years. I dabbled with wearing my hair in all its curlisciousness off and on, but after hearing/reading about the CG method, I decided to go the full gamut.

I have what is probably considered 4a hair. I'm still getting used to it and figuring out what styles work for me (and not being so sensitive to "insensitive" comments).

I have a quick question - and perhaps someone out there can help me out: After co-washing my hair and combing through, my hair sounded like rubber through the comb. I know that sounds odd...but that is the best way I can describe it. My hair was coming out a little more than usual but nothing of a major concern.

Needless to say, it freaked me out. Has this happened to anyone? Does anyone know what that might mean?

I was using Giovanni Direct Leave in Conditioner, which has been working great so far. styled my hair like I usually do (applying Jane Carter's Nourish & Shine and Eco Styler gel), but I'm afraid to "do" anything else to it (co-washing, wetting it) until I have an idea as to what that sound could have meant for my hair.

If anyone has any ideas - I'd love to hear them.

Hi my name is Jessica, i'm 19 yrs. old and i'm new here... idk how to start this but all i can say is that a few weeks ago i became obssesed with my hair. Two years ago i noticed that my hair became courly when i started using mousse to style it and just like magic some curls appeared!!! my hair used to look frizzy all the time and with no body thats why a lot people asked me if i went to the salon to make it curly... idk any good products for my hair n i usually use the ones that leave my hair hard and dry. i really wish i could touch my curls and feel them soft and not hard. That's why i'm trying to make my hair look beautiful, i was planing to cut my hair but i really want to learn to feel proud of it and show the best of it. I feel so lucky of finding this site n im ready to hear any advise!!!
thank u
hi im kathryn and im new here im 15 and in 10th grade. i have type 2b hair. its pretty straight on the top but i have loose curls on the bottom. it gets to be a frizzy mess and most hair products pull my curls straight so its hard to find products that control my large amounts of frizz and that wont weigh my curls down. but sometimes it will be curly and wavy and supper thick and not flat on top at all, it just depends on what its in the mood for that day. i also live in florida so humidity makes things worse! and im on the beach so the salt air will make my hair coarse just when walking around with my friends. i love this site though its the first time ive found hope about getting my crazy hair into control
Hello all! I'm a 25 year old military wife who has been naturally curly for about 4 months now. I use to have a relaxer and I transitioned for about a year and a half. I went back to my natural texture because I loved my natural hair when I was a child. I was talked into getting a relaxer by my family and I never liked relaxers. I hated going to the salon for someone just to burn me. It just wasn't me. I think if God wanted my hair to be straight, He would have made me with straight hair.

I'm an oldie but newbie; i've followed the website for years but only recently registered. Great website! For all 4a-4b hairs that are given to dryness and breakage, I tired the new kronos promo stuff --not saying that it won't work for somebody, but after treatment, my hair felt stripped and it just seemed to make my hair more porous and frizzy before styling. I thought this might be helpful for those wondering about the product, like I was. I'm still hoping to see good results. Open to any veteran help.

For our dear newbies, here's a link you might find useful:

And welcome; we're really so glad to have you!

i just did an impulse chop about a month or so ago and now have some new growth and about 4-5 inches of relaxed hair left.
so my hair is a mess now as i transition
i think i'm a 3c hair type. Dry and coily in the middle and medium and maybe 3b on top (the canopy?)
all the shared info is very helpful... so here goes the journey to see what works for me.... i'm very open to sugs... especially for routine (ie wetting everyday or what), products for dry hair or any other, etc

look forward to hearing from you

My name is Rosemae and I am new here at naturallycurly.com. I hope to learn more about my hair and how to care for it. I would also like to help others and become a part of this support group of proud curlies from all over the world.

Hello all I'm new member. Still trying to find my hair regimen at least a stable one. I cut all my hair off in 2005 I had an Usher hair cut, my hair was just damaged, I didn't know then what I know now about curly hair and and how to care of my locs. So now my hair is waist length....I also have very thick hair I mean one hand full of my hair is equivalent to two heads of hair. I use to want to cry when I had to do my hair by myself ( I was like 12) getting a comb through wasn't a problem it was finding a rubber band or something that would not pop!. I got it under control now...I'm 22. I have a daughter and after she was born I started becoming eco conscious, so for the past 3 years I have been using homemade or 100% vegan bath/body/hair care. Her is down her back, when she grows up she'll now how take care and love her hair....it starts from young. I know I talk a lot....or write a lot....ok I'll stop right.......now!

Hi, I am new and have 3A hair. I just started a new job and I am having a lot of trouble. I am hoping to look through the site and get some good ideas!
Hi everyone! I'm so glad to have found this site. I love my curls, but they seem to frizz and get weird by the middle of the day. I'm hoping that a CG regimen will help tame it and make my hair gorgeous! And if it does, to the point that my fiance wants to run his fingers through my hair all the time, I may have to beat him back

ETA: Oh, and I have 3b hair.
CG: 9/4/09

3a and 3b/F/ii

Condish: CJ Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner
Shampoo (Sulfate-free): Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat (use 1-2x/week)
Styling Product: HETT mousse

TRYING to grow it out- maybe softer water and going almost strictly CG will help!

Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I'm Emily, 17 years old, and just starting to love my natural curls. But it's not so easy, let me tell you. I have thick 3a curls but a few years ago I did everything to ruin it from 10 different dye jobs to bleaching to color stripping all the span of 6 months and with straightening and *gasp* brushing it, it's needless to say it didn't take it all to well. So any hints you all can give me for saving straw hair would be much appreciated.

Hello all! I am new to the website, but not new to curly hair as I've had 4A-B hair since I was young. Little Orphan Annie they used to call me...I've had every bad haircut you can think of, even resorted to cutting my own hair for the past few years until I found a genius curly stylist on your website with rave reviews. So glad for this site! I especially love all the natural, homemade goodies. I've tried a few and my hair has never looked better! Thanks so much to all of you! (Having trouble getting pics to work, hope to get some downloaded soon)
Hello, everyone!
I'm from Brazil and I dont know what type of hair I really have (maybe 4a with a little 3c and 4b? Anyway, I gave up :P)
Just wanna say that I really enjoy reading the forum and anything about curly hair. I've been struggling with my har since I was a little girl and, after 25 years, finally found the right way to deal with it. Now I love my hair and love to take care of it, searching for new products and techniques!
I do a modified CG routine, but still can see a huge difference... My life is so much easier now!...
hello everyone... Im new here @ Naturallycurly (this is my first day). My hair type is I believe between 3b and 3c... I never straighten my hair more than twice a year, though I did recently add highlights. Right now Im looking to do something different like going Blonde
- below is a picture of how blonde I want to go and next to that is me... any suggestions (I know going that light can be pretty damaging).
