I visited Blume for the first time yesterday, as part of a bridal party getting their hair done, and sadly I cannot recommend them. My sisters and I all have curly hair, and both of my sisters have been going to Blume and getting styled by Amina for years- and they love the way she does their hair. It always looks good. It's not cheap, but styling curly hair takes a lot of skill... And a good cut is worth the money. So when my sister needed a salon to do everyone's hair for her wedding, she made us all appts at Blume. And I was excited because they have a reputation for doing a great job with curly hair. And I had never been there. We were booked on Friday morning (it was a Friday evening wedding) with appts at 9am and 10am. We had the whole salon to ourselves, they provided us with muffins and Danish as well as mimosas, and the stylists were friendly and did a nice job across the board. Amina styled both of my sisters and they looked amazing. I also have curly hair but I just wanted a blow out, not an updo. It took forty minutes. My hair looked great when it was first done, but it needed some moderate touch up and a lot more product to hold it throughout the day. Three hours after I left the salon it was a little rough. Luckily a makeup artist who also does hair was in the hotel while i was getting dressed and she fixed it with better products and more volume. She said it looked like a good blow out, but it wasn't done quite right for a formal event where you need more hold, etc. But that's not why I can't recommend this salon. Our overall experience was great. The reason I would strongly urge bridal parties NOT to book here is because I was charged $90 for that blow out. The stated price in the menu of services, which you can look up here on Yelp, is $35 for a wash, blow out and style from a senior stylist. I was charged $55 more than that. Everyone else was charged the published rate for an updo- based on a master, senior or junior stylist. I talked with a friend of mine today who works with salons and she said that some salons do charge more for bridal parties because they are often not regular customers, and won't be back. In addition, they are taking up appointment times from other customers who may need higher priced services. So it's not unusual for salons to charge a bit more. So I went online, and did not see anything posted anywhere stating that bridal parties would be charged more. And since everyone else in my party was charged the published rates, this appears to be isolated to me. I think this is a bad business practice- I don't think I should have been charged more than the published price of the services rendered, when everyone else was charged the published rate. That just feels dishonest to me. The manager flat out told my sister on the phone when she made the Appt that a blow out would be the same price as an updo, and that is in direct conflict with the published rates for the salon. I could have made an appt at any salon and gotten a regular blow out for half the cost, or less. Shame on Blume for taking advantage. And shame on my sister and I for not figuring it out sooner. I strongly urge groups to be careful when working with Blume and be aware of what's being charged- or go to another salon

Stylist: Amina

I have been going to Amina now for over four years. I can honestly say that she is the BEST hairdresser I have ever had. At the age of 63, my hair has gone through some changes. I heard about Deva cuts and found Amina online, and I thank the universe for this discovery. From my first consultation appointment with her, I knew I was in good hands. She had a vision for my hair, and we worked for about 6 months to get my new look, and the compliments still keep coming in. In addition, she is a wonder with color. I have a lot of red in my hair color, and it never looks brassy or "pink." In fact, I get just as many compliments on the color as I do the cut. If you can't get an appointment with Amina, I can honestly say you would be good hands with anyone in this shop. They really do "get" curly hair!!

Embrace your curls) so having to start my curls all over again I figured u would go to the best. Blume salon is the best. I saw Amina and she was fantastic After only one appt I can see my curls are extremely happy She instructed me in how to take care of my curls and my hair looks fantastic

I've never had a deva cut before now but I loved it and my experience at Blume. Tina a jr stylist cut my hair, cut dry, washed then styled. She showed me how to best care for my curls, gave me some good tips I didn't know about, didn't force the products on me just e a recommendation and it was cheaper then my last few cuts at other salons. I'll be going back for more cuts for sure!

This was my first deva cut & Stephanie made me feel very welcomed. She helped me pick a cut, gave me bangs (which I thought was a no no but isn't) & taught me how to style my hair. I already had started the curly girl method but her cut has helped bring out my curls more. She is very nice, easy to talk to, & seems to love cutting hair. I would recommend her to anyone.

I have been going to the Deva salon in New York for a couple of years and have always been very happy with my services but,it's a full day in N.Y.C. with cab fare and parking etc.. I have however, just discovered that there is a curly salon with Deva certified stylists just an hour from my house! I decided to give them a try. I want to let reviewers know that Bridget at Blume is AMAZING! She was trained by Lorraine Massey and she re-taught me how to work with my curls using the Deva products. I got my hair cut a month ago and this haircut truly is the BEST cut I have ever gotten! I am using the products a little differently and getting more curl out of my hair as well! Bridget's prices are at a bargin price as well as now I don't have to go back into the city anymore for my hair! If you're in the Philadelphia area and in need of a fantastic curl stylist then, I recommend Bridget at Blume Salon!

I saw a lot of great reviews about Blume so I decided to give it a shot... I asked for the most experienced stylist and saw Bridget. Bridget took her time listening to me about all my curly hair nightmares and disasters and then had some suggestions for me about my hair type. She really did give me the best cut I have ever had! I was really impressed! She also recommended Deva products for me which I then purchased.( By the way, this Deva stuff is AMAZING!) I loved my hair so much, even the next day after sleeping on it! I then got confident enough to book a color with Bridget. Yep, she did not let me down! My color and highlights are fantastic! I've been getting compliments like crazy and now am in love with my hair! If you have crazy curly fro hair like mine and want it tamed, go see Bridget at Blume!

I've been going to Blume for about 9 months now. The fact that I continue to return says it all. I have never been so pleased with a stylist. Andreya takes the time to ask what your hair goal is and discusses exactly what will have to be done to reach the goal. She cuts dry and uses Deva products. I never felt pressured to purchase the products, although I did wind up doing so. The salon is clean and obviously well managed as evidenced by the professionalism all members of the staff. You can't go wrong with Blume.

Stylist: Amina

This is my second trip to Blume Salon, after a good first experience with Andraya. I'm glad to say that my experience with Amina was just as good. Amina was very detail-oriented and talked to me at length about what I wanted my hair to look like. She was absolutely METICULOUS when cutting my hair, which was very good since my hair is very thick and she might have missed some pieces had she not done the cut the way she did to ensure that it would lay nicely. The only thing is that they REALLY recommend the Deva products. REALLY. I haven't had great success with the products, but yet the stylists insist that curly heads should still use them. I do like the conditioner but have not found success with any other product. And since the products are quite pricey, I've endured many bad hair days because I feel like I should use them since I paid so much for them. BUT... the cut is still the best around. I'm having the BEST HAIR DAY EVER today... using the Deva conditioner and my old styling product with this great cut. Highly recommended!

Stylist: Andraya

Thank you to NaturallyCurly.com for helping me find this salon! First of all, the salon is adjacent to Montgomery Mall and is very conveniently located. The salon itself is bright and modern, and all the staff (including the receptionist who took my initial call) were all very friendly and inviting. Andraya met with me to discuss my hair. There are 3 stylists at this salon who have trained at "Devachan" in NYC and they are pros at doing the "dry cut." Andraya was very thorough and discussed with me at length what was important to me about my hair. She even made a point to talk to me about my face shape and how she would keep that in mind when cutting my hair. After the cut, Andraya showed me how to use the Deva products (which they stock) and the results were great. I am SO happy that I tried this salon. My hair is laying so much nicer than before and looks much more "compact" without losing any length. You won't regret going!

O.M.G.! There actually IS a stylist in the area who can actually cut curly hair! I've always have bad experiences at various salons claimed to know how to deal with curly hair and was always disappointed. I decided to try Blume after a recommendation and booked with Bridget. She spent her time educating me about my hair and what my hair needed to look it's best. Then she cut my curls dry. Oh and yes, Bridget and the rest of the staff ARE DEVA certified!!! My hair has never looked better and I in return have been sending all my curl girl friends to Blume! So if you are in need of a stylist who can really cut curly hair then....GO TO BLUME!

I searched high and low for a sytlist in my area that knows how to cut curly hair and after much research, I found one! Andraya at Blume Salon is excellent. She gave me the best hair cut. The deva cut is a "dry" hair cut and the secret is the "seemless" layer. Gone are the days of the "XMAS TREE" look! I also have to say that the Blume Salon is very beautiful inside and everyone is super nice too. I had to bring my 2 little girls with me, who are very well behaved I might add, and the stylists were very inviting and kind to my girls. Finally, curly hair is no longer a burden but a wonderful gift!

I have crazy curly hair and used to hate to go to salons to get my hair cut because it normally takes about a year or so for my hair to recover. Upon complaining about my tresses to another curly friend, this particular friend told me about Bridget at Blume. I was told she cuts curly hair dry using the Deva method so I decided to give her a try. O.k. kinda weird getting my hair cut dry but it definately works! My curls are bouncy and Bridget really took her time to also educate me on my hair type and told me what products to use. I now love my hair and very proud of my tamed tresses! Thanks Bridget! Side note, if you call Blume for an appointment, tell the receptionist you are calling for a curly cut that way there's enough time set aside.
