I saw Shannon and I can't say enough good things about her! I have thick stubborn curly hair and she completely transformed it. This was my first ever curly cut and the difference it made was just unbelievable. She also showed me how to style my hair and properly put in product. Since I have gone to her, I get compliments on my curly hair a lot now and I can tell you that has never happened before, EVER! I also got some highlights and she did a great job listening to how many I want and the color I wanted. I also appreciate that she sticks to the appointment times. My prior salon I had to block out half a day just for a hair cut.

I initially started seeing her after I had cut my hair very short and was getting tired of the constant maintenance and missed being able to pull it back in a ponytail. I was ready to grow it back out again and Shannon was there encouraging me every step of the way. I love my curls and I also love wearing my hair straight. Shannon cuts my hair perfectly so it allows me to do both. Additionally, we have found my perfect all over, low maintenance color. Shannon is amazing!!! Jessica listened to what I wanted, and based on my description of my hair and it's problems, reccomended products for me. I bought the conditioner she recommended, and my hair has never been so moisturized. She took me step-by-step through her process, and even cut my hair so that the straight layer at the bottom of my head blended with the rest of the curls.

All in all, 5 stars and an amazing first Devacut experience! I will be going back.

I went to Shapes Salon after my former Deva stylist moved and it became impossible to book with her. I'm not a typical curly/wavy- my hair completely changed texture after having children so I didn't grow up with curly or very wavy hair and I'm still getting used to how to style it and deal with it. I am very impressed with Jessica. My hair has several different wave patterns in different areas of my head so even with a Deva cut it can look weird. My former stylist always wanted me to come in with freshly washed/dried hair with a little bit of product but not scrunched out. When my hair is this way it looks uniform but as it goes through the day some parts lengthen/loosen while others stay in tighter waves and curls. Jessica asked me to just come with my hair down and as I'd normally wear it but NOT freshly washed/dried. This was key in getting a great cut, I think, because she was able to see that the back has looser waves while the sides are more curly/wavy. Jessica was very efficient and got my cut done quicker than any other devacut I've ever had. What impressed me most, though, was the style after. I'm familiar with CG and Deva methods but can never get my hair to get good clumps- I have small stringy waves. Jessica used a technique that seemed to incorporate several different methods rather than doggedly sticking to strict Deva and it was amazing for my hair! I got uniform waves and clumps that looked so glamorous! She used a different product line on my hair that made it feel and look amazing. Unfortunately, I had an allergic reaction to it the next day and can't use it but that isn't her fault! She was very gracious about allowing me to return the products I'd purchased, as well. The only downside to this salon for me is location. It's a 40 minute drive on a good day but since I25 is a hot MESS lately it ends up being closer to an hour and 15 minutes for me. I don't get in as often as I should because of the difficulty in scheduling trips down there between kid drop offs but am looking forward to my next visit!

I've been going to the same stylist (Julie at Devachan, who I LOVE) for eight years, and have been going to Devachan itself (and fully using their styling methods and products) for ten years. I recently moved to Denver from NYC, and one of the things that was hardest about the move was having to think about going to someone else. I actually put it off for six months - the longest I've ever gone without a cut.

After doing a ton of research, it looked like Jessica was the best possible option, which was great, since the location was super convenient for me. I'm BEYOND impressed. She. Was. AWESOME. The cut is 100% perfect. She totally totally gets the Devachan method. And she's extremely knowledgeable about curly cuts, styling, and products (btw, she introduced me to a new line of products that is fantastic - i didn't think I would ever use anything besides devacurl but I'm convinced otherwise now). I even left the salon with it looking perfect -- I totally expected to have to go home and restyle it myself, but that was totally unnecessary because she did such a great job.

Besides being fantastic with curls (which is very rare in Colorado), Jessica also has a lot of other wonderful qualities. I was very paranoid about going to a different stylist and expressed my fears. She totally understood and really worked to make me feel comfortable. She is really really good at listening and gaining a solid understanding of what I was looking for. I'm extremely particular about the styling, and asked if I could do the styling myself (just the flipping, scrunching, and putting in the clips) and she let me with total understanding. Plus she's warm, friendly, professional, and a terrific conversationalist.

I'm totally relieved to have found Jessica and Shapes Salon. I'm going to be a very loyal client.

Shannon did a great job on my messed up hair. About 6 weeks ago, I had long full hair that needed some shaping. I went for a slight trim and ended up with lopsided razored shaggy hair. I went to a second person for color and a slight fix to the prior and ended up with a blunt bob. I went back for a slight softening and ended up with a lopsided mullet that destroyed the curls and structure. Given that I had just lost about 6" of hair and had a really messed up mop, Shannon was very sympathetic and cautious with the cuts she made. While we both recognized I need to be patient for another 2 months while it starts to grow out, she made some very strategic cuts that have made a huge difference. I've actually worn my hair down (instead of a bobby pinned pony tail) a couple times since her cut. I can wear it semi-straight or curly. It's still an odd messed up look but much better thanks to Shannon. If you have wavy hair and can't find a stylist that knows how to maximize your waves, I highly recommend Shannon! I've tried 13 other stylists in Denver at top salons in the last 2 years and she is the first person to give me the right type of cut.

Jessica gave me a cut and color. She gave me great tips on styling and my curls were very spirally when I left. The color was way off though. Initially I thought it was just a darker version that would rinse a little. I walked in with red hair and wanted an all over auburn color that wasn't as harsh as the over the counter stuff I bought at the grocery store that was very drying. I walked out with a very dark brownish red. It never lightened up and I can see it is a dark brown with some reddish almost chestnut color in it. I just want my red back. I don't like the dark brown at all. I also bought a lot of product that was used that made my style look good. When I got it home and put my readers on to closely look at the ingredients, the shampoo and conditioner had sulfates and silicones. I also bought a hair oil that had dimethicone. Because I spent so much money on the products, I'm using them up. I think I will use products off of curlmart.com in the future that are more natural and less expensive. I spent about $140 dollars on 3 hair products.

She asked lots of questions and then repeated and addressed my initial concerns throughout the extensive appointment (allow a solid 2 hours for your 1st appt). My biggest issue with previous conditioning was the greasy/dirty look and feel. The products and techniques Jessica used created a full head of curls that were soft with lots of volume. She showed me that hydrated curls were not only frizz-free but looked healthy, clean, and full of life. My hair is so much curlier than I even knew - and it isn't greasy at all! Warning: Do not go here! I came here for a haircut and then wedding styling with Megan, and both times were fine. They didn't mess up my long black curly hair, which is always great. Until...the third time. When I came for a trim, I told Megan no more than 1-2 inches because my hair gets very puffy and does not look when it's not long. First, Megan started doing the back of my hair (dry), so I had no idea how much she was cutting. When she was starting to cut the sides of my faces, she was cutting at least 8 INCHES from my hair--it was chin length when my hair was below my bra strap! I started crying and said that this was WAY SHORTER than I had ever said, and she said it was just the side layers and it would look different when she washed and styled it. After she washed it, I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror because it was SO SHORT and not only was it short, but it looked like a triangle-cut mess! I swear, I looked like Rev. Al Sharpton or something. When I came home, even my husband, who always tries to comfort me and tell me I look good, couldn't honestly say it looked good. Furthermore, the hair on ONE SIDE OF MY HEAD IS SIGNIFICANTLY SHORTER than the other. It has been over 4 months since this terrible day in my hair history, and I still get upset when I look at the mirror. It will take AT LEAST 18 MONTHS or MORE to get my hair back to the length it was--and my hair still is longer on one side than the other, so it might even take more time to get both sides the same length. Everytime I drive past the salon, I get so disgusted. Do not go here or at least do not go to Megan. She is young and does not have curly hair--she has clear communication issues and needs to get more experience under her belt. FYI, I did call the owner, Rochelle, afterwards, and I received very little sympathy from her. I do recall her saying "I don't believe it before I see it." She invited me back into the salon, but that is the last place I'd ever want to go.

I have been to Devachan many times and wanted to try someone "trained" by that salon. I was disappointed. I will not return.

After transitioning for over a year and a half (I had gotten my hair straightened with the Japanese treatment for my birthday) I decided that enough was enough. I was tired of flat-ironing my hair for over two hours just to achieve a somewhat decent look. I was afraid I was damaging my roots and ruining my curls. So, after some minimal research I immediately found Shapes and scheduled an appointment (I skipped the Consultation because I was so desperate). Megan was my assigned stylist, and I would not have had it any other way! She was beautiful and soft spoken, and took the time to explain everything step by step. I now know how to properly use a diffuser and went home with some Deva products. Shapes, and Megan, work miracles there. She was patient and calm and I'm glad I decided to give this salon a try. Don't put off pampering yourself any longer, if you really want to feel better about your curly-do then embrace them and take a trip to Shapes.

I was so excited, just to be let down. I loved the Curly Girl book, it changed my curls life! I did some research and was extremely excited to learn Shapes Salon offered the product line & Deva Cut!! I read reviews and Julia McBride had received the best but she was booked for 2 months. So I asked for the next Deva expert, Richelle had an opening in three weeks, since she was the owner I took it. It was the worst experience. Richelle was not friendly, which is fine if you can cut my curls. I asked to keep my length and for a cool shade of brown for the color, I specified no red. (I had had enough of the red tint from home hair color)Richelle was working on myself and another client at the same time. The girl helping her, worked on me about 70% of the time and she was not even Deva trained! When I was done what I had was a short flat head of RED tinted curls and a bill for $175!! I was so sick to my stomach because I looked horrible and paid $175 for it. I never really complain about bad cuts, I have grown used to them and just deal until they grow out but I also never pay that much for a cut and color. I would advise you do not book with Richelle for a Deva cut, which cost more because she hands you over to someone not even trained. Worse then, being unfriendly, she does not listen to what you want. I called the next day to fix the color and she was out of town but had someone else fix it at no cost. I will say that as I sat there, Julie had a few curly clients, one at a time, and they walked out looking great and happy. If you are going to this Salon I would wait to get in with Julie and AVOID Richelle!!

Two words: Schedule. Megan. Two more words: Do it. My hair is super curly: tight spirals. I've fought with it for 30 years, hating my hair on a daily basis. Bad hair day? I've had a bad hair life. Then, I met Megan at Shapes Salon and I haven't had a bad hair day since. Megan LISTENS, then delivers. You tell her what you want, that's exactly what you get and your hair will be GORGEOUS. I've never seen a stylist more than once; Megan has been cutting my hair for 9 months now.

I "cheated" on my regular stylist by seeing Mary, and I think I'm hooked. I cut my hair short a year ago and decided to wear it in a straight a-line. Super cute, but when I wore it curly I had a pyramid. I couldn't get my regular stylist, or any others I've seen, to shape it so I didn't look like a sphinx. Hooray for Mary! She sent the pyramid back to Egypt! Yes, my hair looks A LOT shorter, think Kerry Russel when she cut hers. It's cute though and SO MUCH better than before. She didn't push any of the products, just kindly told me how they worked and tried them out on me. The only "con", all stylists seem to use way too much product on my hair.

I was actually going to fly to NY just for a haircut but decided to give Shapes a shot. Julia was AWESOME. She took SO much time explaining everything about the Deva cut. She asked me all kinds of questions about my hair and lifestyle so she could explain the styling options. She did NOT push product. She showed me how to use the clips. She gave me a handout on exactly what she had done and then added some further details. She also said I could come back for a refresher if I needed to, no charge. EVERYONE getting worked on in the salon had curly hair. I highly recommend Julia McBride and Shapes!!!!

So, I finally gave in and called for an appointment and they were able to get me in the same day! (Very cool) The salon was easy to find on several major bus routes and parking was free, also very cool. Megan is awesome, super friendly and she talked me through the entire process step-by-step explaining as we progressed along. She taught me how to use the hair clips and went into detail about drying so I could avoid the frizzies. She didn't pressure me about buying products, but I did, and the total cost was less than I expected. In the end my hair was totally transformed into a mass of happy, springy spirals like I have never experienced before. I love Shapes Salon and Studio!

Julia McBride is the best!!! I have always struggled with my wavy hair. In the past, since I didn't know how to work with it, I often just straightened it or put it up to avoid dealing with it altogether. Then I went to Julia, who gave me the greatest cut that flattered my hair texture! She also taught me how to work with my hair and style it. Turns out that my hair isn't just wavy, but it can be beautifully curly now that I have the right cut and the right styling instructions! I have been going to Julia for years now, and wouldn't go to anyone else! She has cut my hair both long and short, and it is always fabulous. Plus, the Deva method that she uses makes styling and upkeep easy and quick!

Julia brought out the best in my very challenged hair. She took care of both the fact that it was color damaged and appeared thin. She taught me how to take care of it and select products that would bring out the best in my hair. She used the Deva techniques to bring out my naturally wavy hair that I didn't even know existed. The cut flatters my hair type and now my color is beautiful. I love my hair!

I have to say that my eyebrows will grow back a lot sooner than my hair will. Ladies, please understand what will happen when you commit to the Deva process, or maybe it was just with my stylist, but hair flies and flies and flies. I had no idea. I haven't cried over a haircut since 6th grade, but I'm crying now. Maybe the curl stands out better now, but who cares, since my hair ends at the tops of my (large) ears. Buyer beware. I'm not pregnant but I'll be taking prenatal vitamins to try to grow this mess out.

I went to Julia based on these reviews and hate my haircut. My layers are butchered and too short. The ratio of layers to length are top heavy. Everything should flow together, but it doesnt, because of the chunks taken out of my hair. Now its going to take a long time for these layers to gro wout and I have to wait several months before getting it fixed.

I was the girl who got up at 5AM every day to blow out her hair. The one who was so happy to move from New Orleans to Colorado because...no humidity! The one who loved wilderness but hated camping because...no blowdryer. The one who couldn't figure out why my hair was brittle and lifeless after all those blowouts. The one who had a closet full of useless products so that her hair wouldn't look brittle and lifeless. Now, I look in the mirror first thing in the morning and love, love, love my hair, just as it is, fresh out of bed! I never use my blowdryer, and only thoroughly wet my hair in the shower about twice a week now--and get 10 times more complements on my hair than I ever did before. My hair is healthier, and I totally love it for what it is naturally. Well, I will *always* play with the color; that's why God created foils, peroxide and pigment... (A HUGE plus, Richelle's color sense is masterful; I used to have to go to two different stylists for cutting and color work.) Richelle doesn't impose a style your curly hair; she cuts it to release its own style. So, truthfully, after my first cut, I felt like one of the previous reviewers--ugh, what's the deal, where's my hairstyle? Since I'd never had my hair cut the right way (just had it cut wet, and then blown straight or wavy)I didn't quite "get" the cutting/styling method right away. But, after a few days of using the Deva products and regimen Richelle introduced me to, my hair had a beautiful logic all of its own. Richelle is the salon owner, and she is busy and sometimes I suppose she could seem pre-occupied. I've had three appointments with her and found her to be a good listener and cordial. Sometimes she's even pretty chatty. Whatever. I don't go to a salon for friendship; I go to get a great head of hair. Shapes is the place for me; I'll never go elsewhere.

I went to Richelle and she was absolutely the best! I had a horrible experience with another salon and was reluctant to try Richelle. She listened to what I wanted, told me why my hair was not doing what I wanted. It is a little difficult to work with but it is finally curly all over. They are a little pricey but well worth it. Thanks Richelle and I have had many compliments. Buy the book "Curly Girl". It is a hand book for anyone with curly unruly hair. Oh, and the products are the best:)

I was so happy to find Julia McBride because she is a real curly haired stylist. She not only trained at Deva salon in New York but she also embraces their whole theory on taking care of curly hair and cutting curly hair. I would be aware though as a customer in CO that some stylists have not been doing the Deva cutting way as long as others have. Julia is one of the best haircutters I have ever found.

I called for an appointment after reading the reviews on this site and asked for Jessica; however, she is out of the country. Richelle, the owner/stylist who answered the phone sounded quite knowledgeable and walked me through the process, so I went ahead and booked an appointment with her. When I got to the salon, I was immediately taken aback -- all of the stylists were sporting stick-straight hair! Richelle chatted with the other stylists and basically ignored me until I made her explain exactly what she was going to do before she started cutting. It was one of the best curly cuts I have ever had, so I would say her technical skills are excellent.

I am new to the Denver area, so I called several salons to decide who to go to. I asked how they cut their hair (wet or dry) and how much of their clientele was curly. When I called Shapes, their curly stylists had a good amount of curly clientele, and because they are Deva-trained, they cut hair dry. This is exactly what I was looking for - and my previous stylist cut in the Deva style - so I made an appointment. Jessica was great - she asked me about what I wanted, what I had not liked about my haircuts in the past, and she helped me find the right shade of brown to dye my hair (I'm usually a dark blond and wanted to try brown for the 1st time). I loved the cut and the color, and I left the salon super happy with my hair. Then, after a couple days I decided my hair was a little longer than I wanted (I had told her that in the past, the biggest problem I had had with haircuts was my hair was too short) so I called back, and made another appointment to shorten my hair some more. She did, and now it's the perfect length. I highly recommend Jessica, and Shapes salon to anyone with curly hair.

Julia was wonderful. She has wavy hair herself, and has been trained in NY by the Devachan salon. She is very knowledgeable about curly hair. She spent a while listening to me and answering my questions, and I really felt like she understood my hair and my concerns with it.then cut my hair dry, washed it, colored it and let me dry. Then she dry cut a little more. I love my cut and color - I couldn't be happier! (And that's saying something because I've had my share of bad cuts!) She showed me how to style it really well and explained each of the products, what they're for and how to use them. I feel more confident about going CG and the Deva products. I'm definitely going back.

I've gone to Richelle to get my hair cut about 3 times now and its totally been worthit. Everytime I go I have gotten the courage to go a little shorter on my hair and everytime I come out very satisfied. In the past short haircuts always led to disasters that took forever to grow out. As others have mentioned on here, Richelle is trained in in the Devacut. She initially cuts the hair dry as a map for her, washes it and then goes back in to cut and shape it. I think what I like best about her is she really listens to my concerns about my hair asking me questions about how it hangs and where it is heavy. She also taught me how to use the clips correctly.

She talked to me about the products I was currently using, and gave me some good styling tips. She did a great color which I love! Then on to the DevaCut.
