My daughter and I discovered Beverly about a year ago.  I wish we had found her sooner.  I have always been unhappy with my curly hair.  She has taught me to embrace my curls.  She introduced me to products that actually made my hair health and look good. I look forward to seeing her and getting my hair cut in October when she comes to town. My daughter and I just love Beverly and we highly recommend her.  She is awesome!

I loved my time with Beverly in Sacramento. I learned how to care for my hair and her cuts gave my loose, fragile, easy-to-frizz curls structure and a plan. My hair has movement, it dries well, and isn't boring. My favorite thing was my color, but I understand that Beverly needed to stop doing color, so I support her in that. I only dropped a star because curly hair is so personal in the styling. I always left with wet hair that frizzed out (because we were touching it, of course!) later, so I'd only find out the next day how much I liked it after I washed it the following day. It's good to know this can happen if your hair is like mine so you don't freak out when you leave. Go do it yourself and THEN judge. I always found the cuts great when I took that pause. Beverly is also SMART, friendly, and fun to chat with!

As an African American woman with "natural" hair I was a little skeptical about trying Beverly--you know the myths that only people of your same race can cut/style your hair?--but Beverly is like a curl whisperer. I have had several dry cuts from her and each time my curls (which range from 3B to 4A) have looked and felt amazing. She has even recommended products specifically for my hair type that I still swear by. I love that she doesn't try to change my hair (a lot of stylist are dying to straighten, braid, or weave it), but works with its natural tendencies. If you have "gone natural" and love wearing your curls out you have to go to her. My only complaint is that her prices are a bit higher than I am used to paying for a haircut, so I can't go as often as I would like. But even with that, I don't go anywhere else--nobody else does what she does and her expertise is worth the price.

I don't usually do reviews but Beverly is so good with my hair that I have to review her here. [Any of you that are near Sacramento better grab her while she's still in the area. She's going back to San Diego... Soon!] Beverly gets an A+ from me [or maybe only an A, since she's leaving the Sacramento area :) !] Both times I've had a dry hair cut from Beverly, I've been very pleased. She definitely knows curly/wavy hair. After my first cut with her, I thought of her as a "hair whisperer". It's one thing to read that someone is gifted in a certain area. It's another thing to experience it first hand. My hair always responds to her. It seems to say, "Ok Beverly, if you want me to start behaving, I will." Then my hair starts behaving nicely in ways that seemed impossible before the hair cut. Amazing!

I have worn my hair the same way my entire life, in a pony tail or in a bun. I have 3B curls, but have never known how to style them or manage them. Beverly talked to me the entire time she cut my hair, explaining everything she did step by step. She gave me great pointers on how to control frizz and how to set my curls. I really wanted to cut my hair short to excentuate my curls, but was very nervous in cutting my hair short. The end result came out better than I could have ever imagined. I got so many compliments on my haircut! I am able to wear my hair down now and with no concerns about it getting frizzy or poofy. She doesnt try to sell you on any specific products, but recommends certain products for you based on your hair. The last time I had my hair cut by her, I found out she was moving back to Sacramento. I was so bummed. Now I have to start over again and find someone else. I just hope whoever I go to can live up to the great haircuts that she gave me.

I have gone to Beverly for about 3 cuts and each time left disappointed as hair looked the same and her prices are very expensive. Although I believe she has talent, the time it takes to cut dry hair without much difference is not worth the time invested. I had to find another stylist who "corrected" the uneven cut and was able to clean up my hair. Curl specialists should be just that, creative and experts in curly hair and the client should leave getting the look they came in for and a reasonable price for haircut. Leaving empty handed is frustrating and I won't go back again and cannot recommend Beverly.

So, I do not like to write negative reviews unless I feel like it's important. This is one of those times. I decided to try Beverly because of the glowing reviews. Had I read through the threads on this site, I would not have done so. I do not know why those unhappy with their cuts from Beverly have not reviewed her, but I wish they had because it would have saved me from this experience. I loved my last curly hair stylist. He was simply fantastic. He listened, was meticulous and took his time to make sure my layers were well balanced with free moving bouncy curls. Beverly did none of those things. Beverly seemed rushed which I thought was odd because she spent two hours with me. She pulled and combed through my hair until I looked electrocuted! Very silly looking, but hey, who am I to dismiss a new technique, especially if it works right? After she finished cutting my hair (impossible to know how it really looked since my hair was frizzy and crazy looking) she washed it and put products, which she said would not be fantastic on my hair, but she would know for next time. She used a hairdryer with diffusor to dry my hair, but it was still very wet as I left, which I am not down with. Here's why: If it's wet, how do I know what it looks like? How is the stylist supposed to make final corrections? Like I said, she was in a rush, so that was that. It looked pretty bad by the time it dried so I decided to wash and dry my hair a few times on my own to see how the cut settled, and of course using my routine with my products. I am so self conscious right now. Today alone, I have had two people ask me what was going on with my hair. One friend who is a stylist for over 25 years said it is not weighted properly. The ends are so thinned out that after a few hours, my curls blend together and get weighed down. She gave me plenty of layers on the top so that kinda has volume, though uneven, and goes out to the sides, while the long pieces fall straight underneath. I look like a tripped out brady mom. Now I am waiting to get an appointment with another stylist to get this corrected and wanna hear the kicker? It's so thinned out that I am facing losing a lot of length which you curly girls know takes FOREVER to get. I am beyond disappointed....

Beverly is fantastic! She is such a wonderful person who knows curls better than any stylist I've ever met. She cuts curly hair dry like it's supposed to be done, but more than that, she walked me through everything I needed to do to have my hair look great everyday in no time flat and recommended great, natural products that really work and won't wreak havoc on my health. She has beautiful curls herself, so I knew walking in she was someone who knew the ins and outs of curl maintenance and wouldn't make my routine impossible. I will absolutely be going back to Beverly and her brand new salon again!

I was really excited about seeing Beverly, as I'm from Australia and it was my first chance to see a curly hairdresser. Beverly only does curly hair, so I was treated to a true curly experience. She cut my hair dry, washed it with conditioner, applied deep conditioner and showed me how to set my hair without reaching for the comb. She answered some real questions I had about hot oil treatments, how to get height at the crown and even gave me enough hair clips to set my hair at home just like she showed me. I had a 90 minute appointment (first visit) and Beverly gave me her full attention the whole time and did everything she could to help me care for my hair. My expectations were very high, though, and I'm afraid because I've been following the curly routine for years already, I didn't see much results from my haircut. In fact, I didn't really notice any difference at all. But that is probably because of my own overly high expectations. I certainly enjoyed the appointment, and felt my most important questions were answered.

Like many curly girls, I've had trouble finding stylists who understand. There are only a few basic things we all want, and for some reason, it's hard to find someone who can meet those standards. Just like all of you, I look for someone who: 1. Gives a great dry cut 2. Uses natural products 3. Doesn't charge an arm and a leg, and 4. Styles my hair the way she would want hers styled-- beautifully! Beverly meets all of these criteria. I've been to the ultra-expensive curl specialists. None have been able to style my hair as expertly as Beverly-- and she does it for half the price! She even created a beautiful, natural hair design for my wedding. Now I can walk confidently down the aisle knowing that my curls will be as gorgeous as ever!

When she got done with it my hair was all curl from top to bottom. Now about 5 months later it is still curly through and through. I am due for a hair cut again and I look forward to going back. My curls have never looked better. and she takes the time to show you how to style curls correctly. She even gave me clips to put at the roots of my hair to lift it when it dries. I've had the young, innovative stylist, the older, experienced stylist and even my best friends "trust me, she's the best stylist ever" stylist....in the end, I always leave exasperated, crying or even worse - totally defeated and hating my hair. If you prefer you may bring in your own products for her to use. When you walk into her salon it is obvious that no harsh chemicals are used here. It doesn't smell like a chemical factory. While Beverly is very knowledgable she doesn't talk down to you or make you feel foolish as she explains what you should or shouldn't do in your hair care routine. I brought in my large box of hair products and she took the time out to educate me on which products I should avoid and why. She doesn't try to force you to buy products either. During my appointment she was patient and truly listened to what I wanted from my haircut. She cut each curl individually and my hair has been looking quite fabulous since leaving her salon. All my friends noticed how much springier my hair was. They asked me what products I was using and I felt so proud to tell them it wasn't the products I was using but the great hair stylist who knows how to cut fine wavy hair and make it look like soft springy lush curls. Will I go back? Absolutely. My daughter who lives abroad is excited to come back to the states so that Beverly can teach her to control her main with the right haircut and products. Beverly stated that my highlights should like they "whisper", not "scream". It turned out just as she said and I was very happy with the result. The hair cut was a different matter. The sides of my hair got over texturized, meaning that when it was cut, it got too thinned out. It wasn't apparent at the end of the hair cut because I left with my hair wet. I appreciate the reviews because now I no longer have to trim my hair myself. I decided to pay back the favor and also write a review that may help someone in the future. Every "curly grrrl" likely has horror stories of really bad haircuts. For myself, I've got horror stories and some mediocre stories. Honestly, this is the FIRST TIME I'VE EVER REALLY HAD A HAIRCUT because it's the first time I've had someone cut my hair who most definitely knows what she's doing. In the past, the most I could hope for (after getting a haircut) was to think to myself "well, it's not that bad, and will look better in a couple of weeks." This has led to long stretches of just trimming my hair myself (why pay money to get butchered?). Although I wouldn't care if Beverly worked out of a barn, I'm happy to also report that the salon itself is just my cup of tea. It's in a lovely Victorian in midtown with nice natural light, and a very nice receptionist, Brittany. I really liked that I didn't keel over from the smell when I opened the front door. In fact, there was no toxic smells at this salon. One other thing about Beverly: She's really down-to-earth and friendly, as well as giving me great advice about how to care for my hair (this was a first for me as well). Have you met those stylists who act snooty because they consider themselves to be "artistes?" I've noticed that those who are truly competent don't need to hide behind such pretenses, and just to add icing on the cake, Beverly is such a person. I'd give Beverly 10 stars without hesitation.
