Share your pretty Spring/Summer dresses!
I would love it if anyone who wants to post pictures of their Spring and Summer dresses or skirts would share in this thread! Please, please share! :D Or heck, if you just have a cute outfit you wanna show off do that too. No rules. :toothy4:

I've never been a dress wearer so putting one on feels pretty foreign to me, but I'm ready for some newness! I'd love it if anyone looking would give me some honest opinions about the two dresses I just bought.

The shorter one feels like something is off with it, but I'm not sure if it's just me feeling weird because my blinding white legs are on display or if the dress just isn't right for me. The longer dress I love and could wear every day I think, but I'd love some input on it as well. Is the cardigan ok with both? What about the shoes? They're new too and I'm still feeling those out if I want to keep them or not.

Opinions, please! Don't hold back, I have no girlfriends that can help me out with shopping so anything you point out will (hopefully) help with future dress shopping.

I like them both. You look more comfortable in the longer one. Where did get the sweater? Does it come in other colors? I like it!

Cute dresses — and love the shoes!

Feedback … the first dress is adorable on you. It's a keeper.

The longer one is a little long, but I like it otherwise. LOVE the paisley pattern, very pretty. I would recommend hemming it 3-4 inches shorter. We need to see a little leg! Right now the proportions are off, but with that adjustment, I think it will look more balanced on you and flatter you better.

Don't worry about feeling like your legs are exposed. I always feel that way in the spring, but I get over it very quickly.

Sorry, I don't like the cardigan very much. It looks very girly/prissy, or perhaps like something a elderly lady would wear. (How does it manage to do both?!) I would opt for a simpler cardigan. Or perhaps one that has a lacy knit, because that DOES suit you, but has a more modern or simple cut so it's age-appropriate.

Me, I have no dresses to post. :( Like you've been saying recently, spring, I REALLY need to go shopping.

Enjoy your dresses! I love a good dress.

I like the shorter one better, I think it looks nicer on you (not that the long one doesn't either!). You probably think the short one is "off" because you aren't used to it, at least that's what I'm understanding.

Interesting post. I'm gonna check back when you ladies unveil the swimwear category.

I like the longer one better, but I like the shorter one too. However, my first thought was "that's cute, but too short for me." I have issues with shorter dresses, but I don't know what it is either. Maybe I just feel too exposed.

Are the dresses sleeveless? Just wondering about the sweater, as I find it a little distracting since it seems so white against the darker blues in the dresses. For the long dress, if that sweater came in a color that was in the swirls (is that a gold or yellow?), I think it would look great!

Hoping to see more pictures - I love a nice dress.

Love the shorter one on you! Very nice. I'm not sure about the ruffle on the cardi because I'm not a ruffle girl but still cute on you. The longer one - I agree with wildhair - it needs to be just a bit shorter. Maybe after another 10 lbs gone I'll feel comfortable posting a pic of me in a dress.

I like them both.

The longer one makes you look like a cool hippy chick.

I say they're keepers.

I'm kind of iffy about the cardigan too and it actually cost more than either dress! (I thought it was on sale, it wasn't). Both dresses are sleeveless so I really prefer something over them. In the store on display the longer dress had a light dusty blue 3/4 sleeve cardigan that looked nice with it, I just thought the crisp white might look more summery. The more I look at the pictures the more I see the cardigan could be improved upon so I might return that. The pictures seem to make it look more matronly than it seems in person thought, I don't know why. I have another white shrug that is more of an open knit that I'll try with it, but I'll still look for other options.

xcptnl, I got it at the Loft outlet and I can't remember if they had other colors or not. I clothes shopped SO much yesterday (I just wanted to get it over with) I can barely remember my name. They had a TON of the shorter summer cardigans though and I had a hard time choosing. So many pretty colors in that store, both dresses came from there as well.

wild~hair, A girly/prissy old lady sweater, I love that description. I'm not sure what it is, when I look at it in person it doesn't seem that way, but in the pictures I totally see that. I feel the same way about being exposed when I go from closed shoes to flip flops, it's just so odd! So maybe after I wear it a few times I'll feel less strange about it. I have put this shopping trip off for weeks now, but after getting out my summer clothes I realized I had to before our move across country. I didn't even have enough to get me through the first few days and I'll need over a weeks worth. I think I may be all set now, thank MERCY. Shopping can be painful when you HAVE to do it. I wish I could go with you, we'd have a ball. :D

jce, I like the idea of something yellow! I've been wanting something that color and it might go well with it. I'm horrible at trying to put colors together in an outfit.

sariroo, the ruffles have taken OVER the freakin' stores. I swear I've never seen so many ruffles in my life as I did yesterday shopping. Those and flowers on everything (yes, even my shoes).

Ninja, thank you. Hippies rule. ;)

You guys have some AWESOME insight, I can't thank you enough for the help and opinions.

princeton, you might be on the wrong message board for that. :tongue10:

I hope people post some pictures. Maybe Miss Kenzie should re-post her dress picture here to get things going. :D

I'll get around to putting it into an actual outfit and taking a better picture, and then I'll post it. I think I'm going to wear it to school on Monday, so I should have the outfit put together by tomorrow night at the latest.....

I like the shorter one better, the shoes look great with it. I love the cardigan but I'm not surevit works with either dress. I really fo like the cardigan - where did you get it? Other colors available?

I got it at the Ann Taylor Loft outlet store. I don't recall if there were other colors available, although they had lots of really pretty summer cardigans.

curlypearl 04-30-2011 08:16 PM

I have a preference for the longer dress because the print is more interesting than on the shorter one and therefore it looks more sophisticated. However, the short one would be cooler (temp-wise) in summer.

The cardigan, being waist length and ruffled kind of cuts you in half. I'm not a fan of it. It's little girlish and I agree with wild~hair- prissy old ladyish at the same time. Ruffles are tricky. They're a trend now, but at least with these dresses, that sweater doesn't work well. I'd get something else for the dresses if you can.

Great smiles in all the pics. :thumright:

I like them both and the shoes are cute. I prefer the first one on you. I think it shows your shape better.

I agree with CurlyPearl that the cardigan kind of cuts you off, especially in the second dress. I would go with a more simple cardigan that lays lower on your hips and I wouldn't button it or I'd button it lower. I like white with dress 2 but on dress 1 it is very overpowering IMHO.

I love dresses and if I were you I'd keep both

Saria 04-30-2011 09:15 PM

Both are cute. I prefer the first for the reasons Jess stated. I'm not one to tiptoe, so I'll just say to lose the cardigan for both. Woo, take it off! ;) :p
If you must wear a sweater, go for one that is longer, especially for the second dress.

murrrcat 04-30-2011 09:19 PM

love them both!

I can't find any long dresses I like. I mean long as in right above the knee. All the dresses I find are way too short for my legs. I guess thats what I get for shopping in the junior's dept. The women department costs more though, but maybe I can find something worth it.

Try American Eagle clearance racks. They have tons of what they call "Mini Maxi" dresses this spring/summer. They hit me right below the knee, and I'm 5'10''-11''. I've picked up a dress and a skirt already, and I'll check back in a few more weeks to try and find more. They fit really nicely too.

Krazyblondegurl 05-01-2011 01:48 AM

I like both, but prefer the longer one. Not sure if I like the shoes with it though. I think a nude/natural looking wedge sandal would be cute with both dresses... Dress them up and elongate the leg/torso. But I'm a girl who cannot wear a flat.

spring1onu 05-01-2011 07:39 AM

I seriously can't thank y'all enough for the advice. Why is it so hard to look at yourself and see these things? I wish I could take you all shopping with me.

I hope everyone else starts breaking out the dresses soon. :)

Saria 05-01-2011 08:09 AM

It's just too cold for my liking to put a summery dress on already. I did in fact get the dress I had posted about on the Say It thread, but it's been sitting there until a 78-degree or so day comes.
