Are there certain colors you won't wear (and would you be annoyed at this?)

When I was a teenager my grandmother and mother always told me I shouldn't wear purple because it's a bad color for me. They wouldn't allow me to buy any purple clothes. Now I'm a grown up and pink and purple have always been my favorite color so I buy a lot of that color. My helmet for skating is pink.

ANYWAY, I was touring a warehouse and a photographer snapped a couple pictures of me. I've been losing weight so one of them is me from behind that I particularly like because I'm getting a nice waistline.

the other is just me looking at something on my phone with a teammate. My fall jacket is too big for me but I still wear it.

So I'm talking to my friend who saw the pictures and said I'm looking really good and then added, "but you need to ditch that jacket, its shape does you no favors." The way she said it made me laugh. A couple days later I repeated that anecdote, laughingly, to my mother who said, "The color is also very bad on you."

Well, WHATever. I like the color. And I'm kind of annoyed mainly because I feel like one comment was actually a compliment about my weight loss and my mom's was just a way to dig in that she hates the color of my clothes. She continued on that it makes my skin look bad and washes me out.

So do you have any colors that you won't wear because you think the color is bad on you? Clearly, I don't. I stay away from red, but only because I feel as though it's too bold as a color for me and it makes me uncomfortable to dress boldly.

I grew up hearing I shouldn't wear white, black, or yellow because they wash me out.

True but I like wearing black and white. That's what blush is for.

Never yellow though. Never yellow.

No. I will wear any color provided I like it. I'm sure there are color I gravitate to more, though. I love red and yellow as well as blue, and I seem to have quite a few different shades of pink in my wardrobe.

I'm not comfortable in purple, and red and orange are impossible because of my haircolor.

Mostly very bright colors make me anxious.
i wear whatever. it's materials i'm picky about, not so much colors. i tend to prefer solids over patterns.
anyway, you look great in pur....lavender!
i really like the way the back of your hair is cut.
I'm avoid bright bold colors for tops, but I have a few exceptions. I used to think I'd never wear orange, then I found an orange top that I love.

When it comes to skirts, I'll wear any color. I'm not fond of pink and blue, but a few of those colors have manged to get in my closet nonetheless.

I don't think that purple looks bad on you. I have an old zippered hoodie that's a little worn out that everyone bugs me to get rid of. But it's so comfy!!! I've bought other zippered hoodies and it's just not the same.
I'm of the opinion that there is a shade of just about any color that I can wear. Some colors require more makeup or different makeup but that's about it. I also believe that you should wear the colors you like and feel comfortable in. If you like pink and purple, wear them!

I think you look awesome in the first picture and that the jacket you're wearing doesn't show of your figure.

There are so many different shades of pink and purple, and I think that one looks good on you. You look cute.

It's a fleece, so c'mon.

Some people think that everywhere you go, you have to dress to show your female form. I don't know what to say about that.
I thought purple was one of those colors that looks good on everybody, but maybe that's because I like wearing purple too?

I always avoided yellows and oranges. Until last year, when DD found she didn't like a certain orange tunic her grandmother had bought her, so I took it. I get compliments on that shirt every time I wear it, so maybe I can wear orange, and should try some yellow, too! I wonder if it has something to do with the particular shade?

I kind of wish I had my colors 'done' back inthe 90s. Anyone else remember that?

I don't wear yellow or orange. I just don't like orange, and yellow makes me look like a creamsicle, what with the blonde and the super paleness.

I also don't wear brown, not because I necessarily dislike it, but more that I find it hard to wear. I wear a LOT of black, and I don't like the look of black and brown together, so mixing brown in with all my black is challenging. So I just don't. I literally own two things that are brown, both because I really liked the item but it didn't exist in black.

Fun Fact: When you actively avoid being “PC,” you’re not being forward-thinking or unique. You’re buying into systems of oppression that have existed since before you were even born, and you’re keeping those systems in place."
Spring, red would look gorgeous on you!

That color looks really good on you ! But I'd consider it a light magenta vs purple.

I don't look good in yellow or jewel tones, white is blah too. I look best in black, navy, brown & some burgundy.

From my childhood my mom refused REFUSED to wear or let me wear red. Why? It was the main color of the Soviet flag ( they had to escape the occupation ).

The closest we could wear was russet.

Don't let your heart be broken. Let it love.
I've been told that turquoise looks good with all skin tones. I think the color of the jacket looks fine on you, in my opinion.

You were right about the first comment being a compliment. Show off that figure !!!(especially if you've been working hard for it)

I've been told that I look good in turquoise, white, and coral/salmon.
I wear every color. I love love color. Especially in fall and winter. I think yellow is my color though, I get the most compliments when I wear yellow.

I have an orange wrap-style cardigan purchased from a Banana Republic outlet that always gets comments. Never negative, but never quite positive either. Kind of "Oh, you're wearing such a bright color!" or "You're wearing that again!" LOL! It's probably because orange is the closest to my skin color.

I like it.

I like that color!

I tend to stay away from pastels and super bright colors. I love dark saturated colors like forest green, deep teal, dark raspberry or plum or cranberry. I love dark buttery yellows but not light or bright yellow and I love deep pinks but not pale pink or bright magenta. I love black and white but hate tans and beige. All a skin tone thing

I think that color looks great on you and congrats on the weight loss!

I personally don't wear beige, tan, or any other sandy-color because they all look odd against my skin tone. I do wear gold, yellow, and bronze though.
I just want to do what I want to do when I want to do it.
Guano - your haircut is adorable. I wish I could get my hair cut that way. I'm going to try to print your picture and bring it to the salon.

You look great and that color looks great on you. But you do need to ditch the baggy stuff. : )

My mom always moans that I wear black too much. I wear mostly black, dark gray, dark brown, red, green, jewel tones, almost always solids. No florals plaids stripes. No yellow, no light gray, no tan, no pastels.
I don't really care so much if something looks good on me (according to others). If I like it I wear it, if I don't like it I don't wear it.
