i've steered clear of all the political threads but a friend sent me this story. the employees must feel terrible to feel that their jobs are directly based on the outcome of the election.

He said that if Obama is re-elected and imposes Obamacare and higher taxes, he may just have to let more of his remaining 7,000 workers go. He said he might even shut down the company.
"The combination of Obamacare and taxes would be a disaster," he said." I would probably just call it a day and that would be a disaster."
Siegel stressed that he wasn't out to intimidate his workers into voting for Romney. "I can't tell anyone to vote," he said. But he wants to make sure his workers made an informed choice. "I want my employees to be educated on what could happen to their future if the wrong person is elected."

I've actually seen several of these stories. I've never seen one that involved a democrat threatening to fire their employees if the republican wins.

I heard about this on TV this morning...smh

How can he say he's not trying to intimidate his employees into voting for Romney? That is exactly what he is doing.

What a terrible thing to do to your hard workers because without them, you have no business to begin with. It's so appalling how some employers treat their employees.

Good point lummylocs!! Someone should ask him that and get it in writing.

Disgusting. I'd be willing to bet that the workers haven't had raises in a couple of years while this douche pocketed thousands in stock options and/or profits for himself. His only concerns is padding his own bank account, not that of the people that actually do the work.

What an ass. We had a local business owner that threatened this a few years ago. I think it was when Bush was running for his second term. At the time, the big thing was estate taxes and he said his family couldn't afford to keep the business if he died so he would just shut down. That guy was and is a multi-millionaire and he has exclusive contracts with Boeing and the federal government. Again, ass.

That goes beyond giving your employees a nudge.

I was cooking and getting ready for work so I (kind of) heard a story along this line (though not in the same large financial bracket) on my local news today. They were saying a family owned, chain, fish restaurant had closed 2 locations. The business owner closed 2 doors to keep his staff under 50 so he wouldn't have to provide insurance, in accordance with the health reform. I wondered if he gave them notice, or enough time to find new jobs, etc. That isn't scheduled to be enforced until 2014, correct?

I also thought he must be rather optimistic about who will be in office, and looking for an excuse.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??
