Fitbit...anyone have one?
Has everyone heard of this? It's basically just a pedometer, but apparently it's works well and can sync wirelessly with your iPhone and computer to track your steps and calories burned over time.

They have one you can wear while sleeping that apparently can report how good your sleep is, too (I guess by how much you're moving around?)

Basically, if it really works as a pedometer, and syncs easily, I want one. I love data, and I think it will help me to walk more if I can really see it. With regular pedometers I know they're sensitive to where you clip them...I'm not sure if it's the same case with this. I guess that's my question. It says you can clip it to your bra, even. But I guess I want to know if it really has to be dangling off of me, or if I can actually secure it more. I don't want it to be too visible where people ask me about it!

Weight watchers has something similar called Active Link. Might be the same, not sure but I have not used it.

There's buzz about it at the WW meetings, people seem to like it.

I have a friend with one and she loves it, clips it to her bra and you can't tell it's there.

I wish I knew more about them, though, am considering getting my dad one for Christmas. I'll be watching this thread

I think my sister has an older version of something like this she borrowed from a friend. It goes around her arm and supposedly tracks her activity levels and how many calories she's burned for the day. I guess she inputs her info online and that's how it figures it out for her? She told me once but I wasn't listening. Typical with her. Anywho, she really likes it and is still wearing it and it's been quite a while, since summer, I think.

I have one!

I wear my Fitbit every day and night (for the most part), it has sort of become part of me. The best thing about it IMO is the online dashboard thing. Since the Fitbit sincs wirelessly (super cool) I just look at my dashboard daily to see my calorie expendature and what my allotted calories are for the day to reach my weightloss goal. When you set up the dashboard the first time, it takes your height, weight, etc. and figures your basal metabolic rate (how many calories you burn per minute in a resting state). You choose your desired weight and it gives you options on how quickly you want to lose weight (ie cutting calories/pounds per week-- easy, medium, hard, etc), then it calculates how many calories you can eat based on your BMR and your activity level throughout the day. It can even "learn" your habits and make projections on your calorie expenditures as you wear it over time.

It sounds complicated but it makes it super super easy. You just plug in a few numbers and the online dashboard does everything else for you. You can also track your meals, fluid intake, sleep patterns, weight, and exercise on the dashboard.

For the most part, I use my fitbit to see my calorie expenditures for the day and how many calories I'm able to eat to stay on track. My job is fairly physical so I was very interested in seeing how many calories I burn on a day-to-day basis just at work, not even including workouts. I was having a very hard time losing weight but have been much more aware of my intake/output since getting my Fitbit. I am losing slowly, but surely.

By the way, I just use the free dashboard-- I don't really see a reason to upgrade to the premium.

I clip my Fitbit to the center of my bra. There are only a few outfits where it doesn't work very well to do that, so I just clip it on my pants. I even wear my Fitbit to tennis, just clipped on my skirt, with no problems. The Fitbit itself is just about the size of a flash drive and can clip onto something fairly thin, but it has a little plastic carrier beltclip thing that you can slide the Fitbit into that allows it to clip over thicker things.

I loved my Fitbit. I sold it after a couple years (they really hold their value and I sold if for about what I paid) only because I had gotten what I needed from it and no longer really needed it on a daily basis.
I did love it and never had a problem with it. It clipped tightly and never fell off. The website is great. The sleep monitor feature was fun (it really showed how many times a night my cat Pita used to wake me up to be petted. hahaha.). It even went thru the washer and dryer once and kept on ticking. I recommend it.

I have a fitbit and love it as well. I do not really use it for anything other than counting steps. My goal is 12,000 a day. I find myself really trying to get that each day. I got over 18,000 steps the other day, a personal best!

I was curious about the longevity of this as I was reading the thread. Not in the sense of how long it lasts but how long it would take someone to get over it.

I personally do not think it's a good idea to weigh yourself everyday when you are trying to drop lbs, let alone keep track of every sliver of data you can. You can seriously drive yourself crazy (I speak from experience). Something that helps you keep track of caloric intake for a little while can be helpful in establishing a plan, but once you have that down you no longer need it. I also think some of the recommendations on systems and apps like that are flawed.

The sleep monitor sounds kind of cool. Your own sleep study. You're not a doctor but you play one online ;)
