What face/hair/body products do you use?
I copied this from another thread but I thought it would be interesting for the over 40 category as I am always curious to see what others are using and I am always looking for something.

I don't usually need a base, but if I use one I use ZuZu

RedCatWaves 09-20-2013 06:14 PM

Any old cheap Suave or V05 shampoo. Right now it's Suave Everlasting Sunshine.
Apple cider vinegar (mixed with steeped rosemary and rooibos tea) as a rinse instead of conditioner
Garnier Surf Hair

I plop my hair with cloth baby diapers instead of towels to reduce frizz. I buy flat fold (not pre fold) birdseye cotton diapers and sew 2 together and they are the perfect size for to really wrap my hair, and they are very absorbant (they're diapers afterall). Can't beat the price...I buy a pack of a dozen, sew them together, and end up with 6 hair towels for about $10.

Henna every 2 weeks for color and gray coverage

I just wash the hot spots with a gentle castile bar soap in the shower. I don't need any moisturizers. Never have. I shave just with water.

Skin- cleanser (in the evenings) and generic Hibiclens (anti-microbial for acne)(in the mornings)
vitamin C (homemade) (mornings)
PSF DMAE (evenings)
Retin-A and hydraquinone 4% (both Rx products) (evenings) benzoyl peroxide 2.5% (evenings)
Latisse (generic) on lashes and brows (evenings)

I don't use any moisturizers. Don't need them. I'm still very oily-skinned, even at my post-menopausal age of 51.

Mineral makeup foundation and blush (Meow brand)
Urban Decay matte eye shadows in neutral colors
Maybelline Full and Soft mascara on top lashes - Maybelling Lash Discovery waterproof on bottom lashes
Baby Lips - the plum one

TOOLS -- ultrasonic facial machine. (LOVE this thing.) I used to use a Clarisonic facial brush, but I think the spatula does a better job of cleaning out pores and it doesn't re-introduce bacteria because it doesn't have a dirty uncleanable brush like the Clarisonic.

Sedusa diffuser (not sure it's made's a HUGE bell diffuser that I bought here at

curry curls 09-21-2013 09:36 AM

Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle or Nourish Spa to co wash (no shampoo in 5 years)

Sally's GVP balm as a rinse out

Kenra Moisturizing conditioner as a leave in with Shea Moisture smoothie on top...currently experimenting with Desert Essences coconut conditioner as a leave in and really liking it

I use a Curls Like Us cloth to blot and a t shirt to plop

Sally's neutral colorful protein filler as a protein treatment

Oil cleanse method...coconut mixed with hemp oil to cleanse and hemp oil with Shea butter on top to seal in moisture

Recently started using honey mixed with brown sugar as a face scrub, and I love it

One a week, I'll use Indian healing clay mixed with apple cider vinegar as a mask

Makeup is lanolin on lips or gloss or a bit of lipstick when I'm not being lazy. I love clinique's cocoa rose liner for my lips. I like wearing that with their clear super balm.

Some Shea honey soap from Whole Foods (my skin is really dry) and Shea butter to moisturize/seal

Firefox, I've been drooling over those lanolips glosses, but I don't know if we can get them here in the US.

Face- neutrogena naturals daily facial cleanser, yes to tomatoes acne scrub, neutrogena pore refining toner, neutrogena naturals moisturizer. Weekly acid peels alternating salycilic with glycolic/lactic acid peels. Oil cleansing a few days a week with castor/jojoba oil. But I always wash away the rest of the oil and then use toner and moisturizer.

Makeup- everyday minerals IT base (the only one without laural lysine). Alima cosmetics eyeshadows and blushes. Alima lip color, also use some of the burts bees lip glosses and tinted balms. I have some mascara that is natural but it runs with the slightest moisture. Still trying to find a healthy mascara.

Body- california baby hair and body wash or shea moisture baby wash. Shae moisture baby lotions and jojoba oil to moisturize when I remember. Deodorant made from a melted kiss my face natural deodorant stick mixed with coconut oil, baking soda, and cornstarch. I put it back in the same container and it works like the original stick only better. It didn't work well till I added the other ingredients.
I shave with a Venus razor but just water. Also we have castile soap bars for those extra grimey days and great for cleaning a cut or abrasion.

Hair- tresseme naturals cowash and rinse out. Alba leave in conditioner. And a variety of styling products. I use kinky curly spiral spritz and curling custard which I finally can get consistent results using the two together. I have some LA looks gels and DEP gel because its cheap so use it when im out of other stuff. I like to mix the last layer of gel with coconut oil to help seal everything in. When I rememember I make flaxseed gel which my hair loves but I hate going to the fridge to get my gel in the mornings. I deep condition with whatever conditoner I have and lots of olive oil. I've done one protein treatment with plain gelatin but have to do those sparingly.

If I need to shampoo my hair I use the California baby hair and body wash.

I love them, especially Mulberry which was a limited edition. Apples shows up well, Rhubarb doesn't, I'd rather use the clear Lemonaid which smells heavenly.

US citizens on another skincare forum imported from the Australia or the UK I think, since they are small postage presumably isn't nuts. They crop up on UK eBay as well as the 'official' sources, cheaper than retail.

Thanks. I liked the look of the apple one, and I see that they now have a banana one. I'd love that one as well. I'm going to figure out a way to get them. :)

I have recently rediscovered AlphaHydrox products. I used them long ago, probably when I really didn't need them. The moisture/enhanced lotion contains 10% glycolic acid and it has been adjusted to a pH that packs a punch. In three weeks I have noticed a major change in my 11"s. Otherwise, I use:

REN Rosa Centifolia face wash
Korres Rosa Centifolia 24 hr moisture for day
PM care is wash with REN and apply Alpha Hydrox alone

Makeup: Bare Minerals Ready Foundation and Sephora blush. Lip colors vary too much to list.

Hair: Varies, but Garnier Fructis SS LI is a staple. My hair loves sulfates and silicones.

Body: Whatever lotion is handy. I don't have a favorite.
