Fine and frizzy, need help

I have two daughters -- biracial -- with completely different hair. Everyone, including me is sulfate free and shampoo maybe twice a week max. Sometimes if things are feeling dry we just co-wash.

The oldest curly (5 yrs) is under control -- she's a 3C with thick, strong hair. The youngest (nearly 3) is a 4 A with super fine hair. Detanglers just leave a residue that make it harder to detangle the next day. Washing too often make it drier and frizzy. And it is currently too short to braid and barely pulls up into tiny pigtails. I cannot stay on top of the knots.

I realize that they can't use the same products, but I am at a loss what to try on the baby that will give more moisture without requiring more washing. I've tried Mixed Chicks kids, Blended Beauty Curly Cake Shake, using Tresemme as a leave in (not just co-wash) and Tiny Twirls.

Bring on the ideas.
Shampooing twice per week may be toooo much. Have you tried sheamoisture. Fine hair could enjoy the protein in the coconut hibiscus line and coarse hair (I know you said thick which often indicates density, but this may indicate coarse texture) may enjoy the raw shea line...just a thought These can be used as rinse outs, leave ins or moisturizers before sealing with an oil....

The girl with the 4a needs to be washed once a week or could be stretched to a week and a half. Try using pure coconut oil because it will give a really good slip on her hair, you can do cute pig minnie pig tails, or bantu knots as soon as you finished detangle per section. Your using the right products but dont overlod the products into her hair, she is too young to have all of that. I totally agree with the other post also, use sheamoisture curl enhancing smoothie as a detangler but dont use it often, and then seal it with coconut oil if you want to. let me know if you need help still.
