Tonnes of questions about my 2 year old daughter
Hi everyone, I'm so excited to have found this site!
I have a tonne of questions, but first a little background:
I have a 2 year old daughter who has 3a (I think) curls that, when dry are to the nape of her neck. When wet, they're half way down her back.
To be honest, I'm really not sure if her hair is dry but it's not too frizzy or fly away, nor is it greasy and thick. We've also never really had an issue with tangles. So it's kind of in between, I guess.
Currently, I'm just washing it with baby shampoo, and then combing through a Dove leave in conditioner. If I do this in the morning, the curls are really defined and will stay that way until she goes to sleep, plays, or wears a hat. Once that happens, all definition is gone and it gets really messy with some straight pieces sticking out.
She's also terrified of the blowdryer so the diffuser isn't really an option.
My questions are:
How do I tell if her hair is dry and if moisture is the problem?
How do I keep her curls defined throughout the day? This a really big one as we are Canadian and can't really leave the house without a hat for the next 4 months.
Thanks in advance!
If your daughters hair is dry, itll be obvious. It will likely be frizzy like a halo around her head. It will feel dry, maybe like straw or just roughish. It will possibly have split ends.
one word of advice, baby shampoo, like johnsons, is practically the very worst thing for a curly kids hair. I couldnt figure out why my daughters hair was WILD and horrible when i was using such a "gentle" shampoo and conditioner.... they have harsh sulfates in them.. and not much else.
Switch to a botanical kids shampoo and conditioner.
i dont know if they sell these brands where you are but ive used Sukin (the kids range, they have adults too) for ages now and its wonderful. If you visit the pharmacy or natural store, theyll have something equivalent there. a little of it goes a long way so it wont break the budget. If her hair is really really dry, you can leave the conditioner in. My daughters hair looks amazing when i leave it in! i also spray it every morning with a mixture of the same conditioner and water in a spray bottle, then i gently scrunch her curls back to life :-)
