The government might shut down....
Does the fact that this is even a possibility anger anyone? If this happened in a corporation the entire Board of Directors would be fired.

I'm furious that it is even a consideration. These people are boobs! I don't blame either party by itself - if their salaries depended on buckling down and getting a budget together, they bloody well would do it! I'm sick of incompetent, selfish, bureaucratic government.

Rant, rant rant and more rant!!!!:angry1::protest:

WTF are we paying taxes for?

ninja dog 04-08-2011 06:08 AM

I blame Boehner. He weeps on the outside, but on the inside, it's another story.

thelio 04-08-2011 06:43 AM

You beat to the punch. i was just about to start a thread.

I'm freaking out a bit. if the govert shuts down, i'm out of work!! I wish the A-holes on Capitol hill would stop thinking about themselves and start really caring for the people.

All they do is fight back and forth:pain10:!! It's really starting to get old. We the people should uprise and take over!! All I know is if i'm out of work, i get bored easily, and as they say "idle minds are the devils playmate":evil2: I live a few blocks from these people, i can not take resposibility for what my boredom could lead to.

nynaeve77 04-08-2011 07:42 AM

So much for creating new jobs. Congress can't even keep the ones that are already in place. Idiots. :angry3:

I bet if their paychecks were on the line, this never would've happened; however, since they all still get paid if the gov't shuts down, what do they care?

Cluekeeper 04-08-2011 07:45 AM

I am pissed. My hubby and I both work for the Federal Government and are considered essential. We will be going to work but not getting paid.

BUT you can bet that Obama and Congress will get their paychecks, but NOT THE TROOPS FIGHTING IN THE WARS!

They need to get out of the way and let the American people figure it out. There are going to be a lot of people put out by these Congressmen and their HUGE egos.

Well, if they want me to be here working, and working for FREE...since we won't be paid until who knows when...then I am going to show up in pajamas! :angry3:

BekkaPoo 04-08-2011 07:50 AM

As NPR is mentioning, this hangup is all due to the tiniest slice of the budget. They are missing the big picture as usual.

ninja dog 04-08-2011 08:14 AM

One of those small slices is allegedly Planned Parenbthood.

It may be heresy to say so, but damn it, if that's what they're fighting over, I support the battle, though I'm certainly disgusted and distressed on behalf of government workers and all else who will be affected.

(The one person I wish would be affected, the dumb smelly hippy lady at the post office, won't be affected at all, unfortunately.)

Nappy_curly_crown 04-08-2011 08:58 AM

I'm a Federal employee and a manager so I'm getting a double whammy. I had to call a staff meeting to address the rumors and explain the shut down to folks. It is one of the HARDEST things I've had to do ever. They can't use thier sick or vacation leave. Can't seek temp employment some where else. Can't volunteer to keep working w/o pay. My admin just came to me in tears. She and her hubby (also a govn't employee) leave almost paycheck to paycheck because they have a special needs child who needs almost 24/7 care and another child that is developmentally delayed. They pay tution for a private school that has a speical program that helps both children. The only thing that I could tell her was that if the shutdown lasts for more than a week, they can file for unemployment...but that's less than 1/2 of there usual pay. What do you say to people in these situations. Sorry doesn't cut it....and they certainly don't give a crap about the "bigger fight" when they can't put food on the table or care for thier kids.

My agency (EPA) was also one of the budget issues and along with planned parenthood is included as a policy "rider" where they are trying to undercut the legislative mandate that we have to protect the health, safety and environment of the american public. Why? Because we slap big business with huge fines and fees when they knowingly break the law and endanger our lives.

I'm just soooo frustrated right now...

Time's up: shutdown looms without agreement - Yahoo! News

wild~hair 04-08-2011 01:27 PM

SO got an email this morning about a fantastic work opportunity to travel to Japan in May. But he needs to renew his passport first and now there is this whole cloud of uncertainty over whether he'll be able to do so in time.

A friend's dad has lung cancer. He's going to die from it and so had planned a long-desired trip to see the Smithsonian Museums in DC. Can't do it it if the government shuts down. Probably won't ever happen for him.

I'm getting really pissed off at people on FB and stuff who say, "Who will even noticed if the government shuts down?" Um, I will! SO will! My friend's dad certainly will!

One of these people saying/writing that kind of stuff is a FB friend from high school who now works for the Air Force. His job is one of the "essential services" that would be protected, and so his job is safe [although I understand his pay will be delayed, which totally blows]. Still he thinks it's okay to trash those other services that we rely on and show no regard for people's livelihoods and plans for the future.

I going to remove him as a FB friend before I posted something on his wall that I'm going to regret. Jerk.

No shut-down. "Rider" dropped. :)

Well, I can't say I'm happy about it. I'm glad that people won't be thrown out of work, but it appears that Obama caved on a lot of things. God-damn he is so weak. He gives them every.f*cking.thing they want every time they have a tantrum...

The New Black 04-12-2011 06:24 PM

Didn't this all (the possible shutdown, etc.) make Obama look bad? Admittedly, I know very little about politics.

BekkaPoo 04-20-2011 01:51 PM

Shutdown or no, there's no way these itty bitty cuts are going to make any difference whatsoever for the deficit. What needs to be cut is overspending on defense in particular. There is so much waste and fraud there it's ridiculous, and endemic.

And also, super-rich people hello! Pay your fair share in taxes and stop tax-sheltering your money in Swiss bank accounts. If the top 1% own 50% of the wealth in this nation, and the rest of us are making do with the remaining 50% the more top-heavy the system becomes, the more America will look and feel like a 3rd world country.
