I am still figuring out this whole CG thing so I need any help I can get. I have been trying to co-wash and find silicone-free products now for a couple months with little success. I think a big component to the disaster my hair currently is may be PROTEIN. I was using Suave Naturals Coconut and tried Aloe Vera Gel a few days as a styler. Now that I know both of these contain protein, it makes me think that my hair must be extremely protein sensitive. No matter how strong a styler I use, I have a patch of frizz mostly at the crown of my head that immediately pulls away and will not cooperate. It could be compared to steel wool. It is so stiff and unmanagable. What do I need to do to return that hair to calmness? I'm so ready to just shave my head and start over!

Co-washing doesnt seem to work for me. My hair is too dense and I cant seem to get it clean. I need a good low-poo, a way to get my hair out of this state of distress, and a good styler to give my hair good hold without weighing it down. I'm trying homemade FSG today. The frizz is still pulling away.

How do I solve the patch of frizzy stiffness?

You probably need to use more moisturizing products. Suave isn't very moisturizing and contains a small amount of protein. You may be sensitive to AVG, as well, but that's not a protein product.

It really helps to know your hair properties. Here's a link for that Live Curly Live Free - Curly Hair Basics Once you determine your properties look for people with hair like yours and see what they use (in signature.) It's the best place to start with ingredients/products.

Hello GirlsWithCurls!,
Since you are protein sensitive stay away from the AVG as it acts like protein on our hair. Suave Naturals Conditioners have worked great for me always, keep in mind that the coconut is the only one with protein and should be avoided now for you as you are recovering from protein overload.

Check all your products and steer clear of protein for a month or so and if things look better you can slowly add a small hit of protein. Protein gel or my Suave Coconut condish work well for me as my hit of protein and that is it for me for two or three weeks.

Also, if cowashing is not enough for you, you might enjoy natural soap bars. I don't use low poo so I can't help you there.

Let me know how it goes.

It could be scab hair, it's a rough dry patch of hair that doesn't respond to manipulation and has the tendency to repel any kind of moisture.
There are videos on YouTube that tell you what scab hair is, where it comes from, and how to combat it.
My hair loathes aloe! Very hard to find products without aloe gel, juice, makes my hair hard, dry and brittle....much like protein overload. You're not alone.
