I want to see my hair staright!
My hair is like a 4a/4b type with a little 3c mixed in it and I love my natural hair, don't get me wrong, but I just want to see it straight it for once. I've really been having this urge to straighten my hair, just to really see how long it is and to have nice, thick, shiny, bouncy, and easy maintenance hair for a couple of weeks. However, I can't seem to get my hair straight. I have tried several times, even giving the Ion Keratin Smoothing Treatment a try, but every time, not even 2 minutes after the iron is off the hair, it gets puffy, frizzy, and stiff. I don't have the best blow dryer and flatiron (conair:(..), but I know they're not that bad, so I don't think that's my only problem. I know that type 4 hair can be a little resistant, but I know there is a way to get the results I want. I just like having the option of straight hair when I want it, and not being able to achieve that is frustrating me. I just don't know what to do and I really need help..with everything. I want to know what are the best products to use, heat protectants, flatirons, blow dryers, etc. And also some tips on the process, what are some crucial steps that I could be missing? Thank you for helping!
well i know what you mean you want versatility which is fine. Im the same way. But i dont really try to achieve the "pin straight" hair look.
Also i only allow my hair to be straightened maybe 1 time each month. Straightening it to much can damage the hair. Also before i straighten my hair i deep condition it with the coconut cream or milk & lime hair relaxer(it's not really a relaxer just a really strong conditioner)..but some say it makes their hair texture more loose..for me it makes my 4b hair into more of 4a texture.
Im also 4b hair texture(my hair is shoulder length) i would like to one day achieve the pin straight look ONLY to see my real hair length..but that would be the only reason. I never really liked pin straight hair
Anyway after i do the coconut/lime relaxer i wash my hair(shampoo) and then put in the Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner and braid my hair in about 5-6 big braids(leave on for about 1hour) wash it out(keeping braids intact)..then i straighten my hair by using blow dryer..similar to the "Brazilian blow out"
BUT!! Before i blowdry my hair straight(using the finer tooth comb) i undo one of the braids i plan on straightening..i put in some "Kinky curly leave in conditioner" and i use a regular tooth come to comb through my hair. Next i blowdry my hair(like you'd do with a straightening comb on the highest amount of heat)
It does straighten my hair..not pin straight but it isnt bad. Also i barely have any hair that falls out throughout this whole process(from washing till drying/straightening)
Anyway ..my hair only stays straight for about 1week(or less) when it's out and not tied in a pony tail
so to keep it straight longer i usually tie up my hair..so it stays straight for like 2weeks
anyway whatever you decide to do dont put heat on your hair no more than 2 times a month.
To be safe i only put heat on my hair 1time a month
You could try the Cocoa Keratin smoothing treatment, it's much gentler on hair and it lasts for 5 months. Plus it comes with its own pre and post shampoo and conditioner to keep hair healthy.
For straighteners I use a Karmin G3 salon pro styling iron and it's really great for curly and poofy hair because it has ceramic and tourmaline plates and a heat setting that goes up to 460°F (very hot and very fast). You need a good heat protectant too. (Karmin also has a really great blow dryer, but I haven't bought it yet)
Keep heat exposure to a minimum and use a good conditioning treatment to keep frizz down. Also use satin pillow cases, cuts down on frizz and breakage. Oh and let your hair grow long, the weight will loosen the curls.
