How to achieve a wavy hair using a relaxer?

My hair is mixed 3c and 4a, and I'm done with using texturizers because I don't like them, and I've decided to relax it.

I don't mind the chance of my hair coming out straight but is it possible to get it wavy or loosely curly using a relaxer? Should I weaken the relaxer or leave it on for less time, and by how much?
There's no way to know how much to dilute it because everyone's hair reacts to relaxers differently. So really, unless you really know your hair, just go for a simple straight.

Personal example: Unless I use a children-grade relaxer (the strongest available, made for virgin hair), my curl comes back pretty quickly. (Or rather, doesn't die out completely.)
