hairloss: postpartum and hypothyroid
I am almost 8mths postpartum and I am also medication for hypothyroidism.

I started losing hair about 2mths postpartum. I am losing multiple handfuls of hair a day......still. I have some bald patches above my eyebrows and my hair is significantly thinner (I can see my scalp through my bangs which had never happened before). I feel like I have lost about 50% of my thickness.

My thyroid levels were checked 5mths ago and they were fine.

I never had this level of hair loss w/ my other kids that I noticed, but I also had a short pixie cut.

What can I do to help it? I am going to call the doctor as well, b/c I am concerned this is too extreme for normal postpartum hair loss.

I was planning on growing my hair out, but it looks so thin.....should I keep it shorter to help it look fuller?

I had a similar problem when I had my daughter. I had to add more nutrients like calcium to my diet. I know that some women after they give birth it is normal for the hair to shed a lot because while pregnant it won't shed at all. If your hair is broken off and falling out at the rate it is it might be better to cut it into a short style.

I had the same problem with both my births - first one I has hyper and second I was hypo.

I am 16 months PP (with my second babe) and my hair is still falling out. Im actually beginning to freak a bit, but alll my PPT symptoms have stopped (I never did treatment anyway as I am EBF and didnt want to take anything for that reason) .

I think my shedding is finally slowing down. Yeah!

But my hair is so thin now, and I have SO much baby hair now I decided to keep it short for a while. It is currently in an angled bob (no layers). I am going to get it into a regular wavy bob and have layers put in to help it look thicker.

Flax Seed Meal
I started taking flaxseed meal as a supplement to my breakfast about 2 years ago. I started taking it to help with digestion and to feeling more full after breakfast time. My hair was thinning because of cancer treatments and other medicines I was taking; after 6 months of putting 2 teaspoons of flaxseed in my yogurt every morning, I notice that my hair was getting thicker, my eyelashes and eyebrows as well. Now 2 years later, at 61 years old my hair is as thick and beautiful as it was when I was in my teens and twenties. :toothy2:
